ONE WRITER · ONE NOTEBOOK
Hello, I'm
Alain.
FlyerFolio is my personal blog about loyalty travel: what the rules say, how I make sense of them, and which questions still need a better answer.
A notebook, not a points factory
I am a personal blogger, and FlyerFolio has one writer and one editor: me. I started this journal because loyalty programs are full of small rules that matter in real trips but are difficult to learn from a promotion page or a giant list of cards.
I write for the traveller who wants to understand the system without turning every journey into a maximisation exercise. The useful question is rarely “What earns the most?” It is usually “What fits the trip I am actually taking?”
How I research and write
A published note should make it clear what is a program rule, what is my interpretation, and what remains uncertain. Whenever a fact may change, I prefer a dated source and a visible verification date over timeless-sounding certainty.
I begin with published program terms, earning tables and carrier information where they are available.
A useful answer needs to say when it was checked, especially for award prices, earning rates and partner rules.
Mileage quantity can be calculated; personal value depends on expiry, availability, routes and your own plans.
If a rule is ambiguous, missing or dependent on a fare condition, I would rather flag it than fill the gap with confidence.
Corrections and updates
Corrections are part of publishing a useful reference. When I find a material error, I correct the page and note a meaningful change where readers need to understand that an earlier answer has moved. Routine wording and layout fixes do not receive a formal correction note.
Older articles are not promises of current program rules. Check the verification date, then confirm the important details with the airline, hotel group or loyalty program before booking or transferring points.
Data and tool limitations
The mileage tool is a research aid, not an airline system. Its results are estimates based on the data and rules available to FlyerFolio. They may be incomplete when a fare family, geographic exception, ticketing condition or partner restriction cannot be represented reliably.
Results compare base-member earning by default. A higher mileage number is not a recommendation, a cash valuation or a guarantee of credit. The operating carrier and loyalty program make the final decision.
Independence
FlyerFolio is an independent personal blog. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated for any airline, hotel group, alliance or loyalty program.
If commercial relationships are introduced in the future, they will be labelled where they appear. They will not change the distinction between a program rule, a calculation and my personal judgement.
