DESTINATION ENTRY GUIDE

Jeju entry from overseas for Chinese passport holders

Jeju's island-only visa-free route, direct-arrival conditions and important limits for travellers who might continue to mainland South Korea.

This page covers the Jeju Island visa-free programme only. It is not a general South Korea entry guide.

Jeju is a separate entry route

South Korea's Jeju Island visa-free programme is distinct from ordinary entry to the mainland. Current Korean Embassy notices describe eligibility for nationals of visa-required countries who arrive directly from overseas to Jeju and do not pass through other parts of South Korea. The current exception list names 23 nationalities; the PRC is not listed. This indicates that the Jeju-only route may cover PRC ordinary passport holders, but confirm with Korean Immigration or the operating airline before booking because eligibility depends on the passport and itinerary.

Route and length-of-stay limits

The published Jeju guidance gives a maximum stay of 30 days and requires travellers using this route to remain on Jeju for the full stay. Do not book a connection through Seoul, Busan or another part of South Korea and assume the Jeju exemption covers it. A journey to the mainland requires a separate qualifying permission or visa.

Confirm before ticketing

  • Ask Korean Immigration or the relevant Korean mission to confirm that your passport and itinerary fit the current programme.
  • Check that your first South Korean entry point is Jeju from overseas.
  • Verify that the whole stay remains on Jeju and does not continue to mainland Korea.
  • Check any current K-ETA or other pre-travel requirement that applies to your nationality.
