What it works out

Paying with points is not free: you give up points that are worth something to you. This tool turns both options into money using your own point value. The award costs its taxes and fees plus the points at your value. The cash booking costs its price minus the value of any points it earns.

The break-even value is the point value at which both options cost the same. If you value points above it, paying cash is cheaper; below it, the award is cheaper. Change rules, refund terms and earning on paid tickets can matter as much as the price.

How to use it

  1. Enter the cash price and the award price (points plus taxes and fees) for the same booking.
  2. Enter what one point is worth to you. If you are unsure, use the points value calculator on a few recent bookings.
  3. Optionally add the points the paid booking would earn. The verdict and break-even value update as you type.
