Before transferring hotel points to airline miles

Hotel-to-airline transfers can be irreversible and partner ratios differ. Check the flight first, then review the transfer terms on both sides.

Find a bookable award first

Search the airline programme for the exact route, date, passenger and cabin. Confirm that the result can be booked and note the total miles and cash charges. A partner seat appearing in a third-party tool is not a reservation.

Check the hotel programme’s partner rules

Open the current conversion page and confirm the airline is listed, the ratio and any bonus, the minimum or maximum transfer, account-name requirements and expected processing time. Ratios can differ by airline and can change.

Treat the transfer as one-way

Marriott’s terms state that a completed conversion to airline miles cannot be reversed. Other programmes set their own rules. Do not transfer because a bonus is advertised if you cannot use the resulting balance for a trip.

Record and verify

Save the transfer confirmation and check the airline account before booking. If the transfer is delayed or the award seat changes, use the programme’s official support channel and keep the original record.
