How to use the Ambassador free weekend night

When do you get the free weekend night?

InterContinental Ambassador lists a Complimentary Weekend Night as one of the membership benefits, offered alongside a guaranteed 4:00 PM late check-out and described as a night on the house every year. [1]

Nothing needs claiming. Immediately on enrollment or renewal of an InterContinental Ambassador membership, a complimentary night — valid for the second night of a paid weekend stay — is credited to the member's IHG One Rewards account. [1] Once the member signs in to that account, the night is visible in account management. [1]

The certificate is available for use as soon as the membership begins. [1] Each one is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, so the practical deadline for staying is set by the issue date rather than by the calendar year. [1]

Which stays does the certificate cover?

The night is tied to a particular stay shape: it is valid on the second night of a minimum two-night paid weekend stay on the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night Rate at any InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property worldwide, excluding InterContinental Alliance Resorts. [1]

The weekend definition is the one detail that changes by region: the program treats Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, while hotels in the Middle East may instead treat Thursday, Friday and Saturday as the weekend. [1] A Thursday-to-Saturday break in that region can therefore sit inside the certificate's window, but the hotel's own definition decides. [1]

How do you book and use it?

Booking happens inside the member's own IHG One Rewards account. [1] The sequence the program sets out is:

1. Sign in to the IHG One Rewards account online. [1]
2. Make the reservation on the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night Rate, shown as "AMB Certificate"; the certificate cannot be applied to any other rate. [1]
3. Book ahead, since advance reservations are required. [1]
4. At check-in, present valid ID and the membership number, or the hotel may decline the booking. [1]

One timing rule catches new joiners: when a member joins InterContinental Ambassador at a hotel, the weekend night cannot be redeemed for that current stay. [1]

Identity matters more than the certificate itself. The night is valid only for the member who holds InterContinental Ambassador status, and a valid ID and member number must be presented at check-in or the hotel may refuse the booking. [1] IHG One Rewards terms reinforce the same point: member benefits, including those for InterContinental Ambassador, are only for the individual member, are not transferable, cannot be used by other members or non-members, and for in-hotel benefits the member must personally check in and stay. Exceptions and limits

• Alliance resorts are outside the benefit. The Complimentary Weekend Night is not valid at InterContinental Alliance Resorts, even though it is otherwise honored at InterContinental properties worldwide. [1]
• Wrong rate, no night. A booking made on any rate other than the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night Rate does not carry the certificate. [1]
• Same-stay joiner exclusion. A membership taken out at the hotel cannot be used to claim the free night on that stay. [1]
• Sale or barter voids the night. The certificate is not transferable, and selling or bartering it renders it void. [1] IHG also reserves the right to cancel a membership and revoke benefits for misuse of benefits or privileges, including the sale or barter of Reward Nights. [2]
• Cancellation removes benefits. Members whose accounts are canceled, whether by IHG or by the member, forfeit all points, point vouchers, Reward Nights and other benefits tied to the account. [2]
• Only InterContinental properties. Ambassador benefits apply at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts; the member's IHG One Rewards benefits are what travel across the other IHG brands. [1]
