How to redeem AirAsia Rewards points

AirAsia rewards is the loyalty program operated by BIGLIFE Sdn. Bhd. for AirAsia branded airlines, and members spend AirAsia points on AirAsia flights, on AirAsia ancillary products bought inside the same booking flow, and on non-flight rewards such as merchandise, services and other benefits. [1] A redemption goes through only when the account is in good standing, the points balance covers the reward, and any cash balance and taxes due on the item are paid successfully. [1]

Key takeaways

  • Members with an account in good standing and enough AirAsia points can redeem rewards through the redemption methods the operator provides; requests made with an insufficient balance are not processed. [1]
  • Flight redemption covers AirAsia flights, but not Thai AirAsia X flights before 1 January 2026 or AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) flights before 12 March 2023. [1]
  • Points are deducted and held back until the whole payment for the reward, including any cash balance and taxes, has cleared; if the merchant reports an unsuccessful payment, the held points go back to the account. [1]
  • Once a redemption request is accepted it cannot be revoked, canceled, changed, returned or exchanged, and the points used are not credited back. [1]

What can you redeem AirAsia points for?

The AirAsia rewards redemption program groups rewards into flight redemptions, AirAsia ancillary products and non-flight rewards, and each type carries its own conditions. [1]

Reward types and their conditions
Reward typeWhat it coversConditions
Flight redemptionAirAsia flightsDoes not include Thai AirAsia X flights before 1 January 2026 or AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) flights before 12 March 2023 [1]
Ancillary productsAirAsia ancillary productsOnly available as an in-path booking [1]
Non-flight rewardsOther rewards, benefits, services and merchandiseSubject to availability and to restrictions on where and when the reward can be obtained [1]

All deals and rewards are subject to availability, and the operator or the service establishment supplying them may restrict where and when they can be collected. [1] Any meals, transport, accommodation or other arrangements connected with a redeemed reward are the member's own responsibility. [1]

How do you complete an AirAsia points redemption?

  1. Confirm the account is in good standing. The account must not be canceled, suspended or terminated by the operator, and must not be canceled or deactivated by the member, at the time of the redemption request. [1]
  2. Check the balance covers the reward. A request from a member with insufficient AirAsia points will not be processed. [1]
  3. Order the reward through the redemption methods provided. The operator sets the methods that members use to redeem. [1]
  4. Settle any remaining payment. The operator deducts the stated number of points and holds them while the full payment for the reward, including any balance of payment and any taxes owed to the operator or the merchant, is completed and a successful payment confirmation reaches the operator from the merchant. [1]

If the merchant sends an unsuccessful payment confirmation, the held AirAsia points are credited back to the account. [1] AirAsia points cannot be exchanged for cash. [1]

A request that has been accepted cannot be revoked, canceled, changed, returned or exchanged, and points already used for a redemption are not credited back to the account. [1] Where a reward voucher or letter of redemption is issued, it does not act as a reservation, so the member must still make the booking and tell the participating service establishment which reward will be used. [1] Such a voucher is valid only until the date stated on it; if it is unused after that date it lapses and is not replaced. [1] Redeemed rewards and vouchers cannot be exchanged for other rewards and are not refundable, replaceable or transferable for cash or credit. [1]

What charges may apply when you redeem points?

Members agree to pay the fees, costs, expenses and taxes, including Sales and Service Tax, duties and levies that apply to the AirAsia rewards. [1] The operator may charge fees for services under the program either by deducting AirAsia points or by cash payment, may revise those fees, and may introduce additional fees for new services. [1] Every fee paid in connection with the program is non-refundable. [1]

Beyond program fees, a redemption item can itself carry a balance of payment and taxes owed to the operator or to the merchant, and the points stay held until that amount is settled. [1] The membership agreement does not set a fixed redemption fee; it directs members to the operator's website for the full details of the fees that apply. [1]

Exceptions and limits

  • No qualifying sectors on award flights. Flights redeemed with AirAsia points, or with points plus cash, through the AirAsia rewards site do not earn Qualifying Flown Sectors. [1]
  • Points expire. Points earned from 1 June 2019 remain valid for 24 months from the date they are credited and then expire automatically and are deducted at the end of the 24th consecutive month, with no extension unless the operator decides otherwise. [1] Points issued under specific promotions or campaigns can be configured with a different expiry date. [1]
  • Order of use. Points are used in chronological order, so the earliest expiring points go first, followed by the earliest accumulated points. [1]
  • No responsibility for the goods or services. The operator gives no warranty on the quality, suitability or fitness of redeemed products and services, is not liable for defects or deficiencies in them, and leaves disputes about them to the member and the supplier. [1]
  • Lost vouchers. The operator will not replace misplaced, lost or stolen reward vouchers or tickets, and will not place a hold or freeze on them. [1]
  • Blocked accounts. A member who reports unauthorised use of their member ID through AskBo on the AirAsia MOVE website or app or the support page may have the redemption function on their accumulated points blocked while the report is confirmed in writing. [1]
  • Point clawbacks. Points suspected to be recorded fraudulently, recorded in error, or linked to a canceled transaction can be deducted without prior notice. [1]

The program is open to individuals globally, and points are awarded on transactions performed in Malaysian Ringgit at an exchange rate the operator determines. [1] Each member may hold only one account, and a canceled or deactivated account cannot be used to redeem. [1]

Frequently asked questions

Yes, temporarily. The operator withholds the points until a successful payment confirmation arrives from the merchant, and credits them back to the account when the merchant reports an unsuccessful payment. [1]

Can you cancel an AirAsia points redemption and get the points back?

No. A redemption request that has been accepted cannot be revoked, canceled, changed, returned or exchanged, and points already used are not credited back to the account. [1]

Can you redeem AirAsia points for AirAsia X flights?

Yes, subject to date conditions: redemption covers AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) flights from 12 March 2023 and Thai AirAsia X flights from 1 January 2026. [1]

Do award flights count towards AirAsia rewards tier progress?

No. Flights redeemed with AirAsia points, or with points plus cash, through the AirAsia rewards site do not earn Qualifying Flown Sectors. [1]

How long do AirAsia points last before you have to spend them?

Points earned from 1 June 2019 are valid for 24 months from the date they are credited and expire automatically at the end of the 24th consecutive month, although promotional points can carry a different expiry date. [1]
