COURSE

Start here: AirAsia Rewards — join, earn and redeem AirAsia points, keep them valid and move up the four tiers

AirAsia Rewards is the loyalty and rewards programme owned, operated and administered by BIGLIFE Sdn. Bhd., under which members are issued an AirAsia member ID and earn AirAsia points [1]. The programme has four membership tiers — Red, Gold, Platinum and Black — and includes the Freedom Flyer Programme, which covers benefits and privileges in relation to flights flown [1].

Facts checked: 19 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • AirAsia points are earned at Merchants signed up by BIGLIFE and on certain AirAsia flights, where the rate depends on fare class and tier at the time of departure [1].
  • Points earned from 1 June 2019 remain valid for 24 months from the date of crediting, then expire and are deducted from the Account [1].
  • Tier progress comes from Qualifying Flown Sectors, an AirAsia Co-Brand Card or XP, and the sector thresholds are printed in Table A [1].

What you will be able to do after this course

  • Register correctly, keep a single Account, and recognise when an application is incomplete or when accounts can be merged.
  • Explain how AirAsia points are earned on flights and at Merchants, and track the 24-month validity of each batch.
  • Count Qualifying Flown Sectors against the printed tier thresholds and check when your earning channel is reviewed.

Step 1: What AirAsia Rewards is and who it suits

You will learn: who operates AirAsia Rewards, what the agreement covers, and how far the terms can change.

The membership agreement is a contract between the member and BIGLIFE Sdn. Bhd. — formerly BIG Loyalty Sdn. Bhd. and Think BIG Digital Sdn. Bhd. — the operator of AirAsia Rewards, and it binds all programmes and initiatives under AirAsia Rewards, including co-branding arrangements with partners [1]. Membership is cardless and virtual: the AirAsia membership is the cardless loyalty membership that lets an individual take part, and every member is issued an AirAsia member ID [1].

BIGLIFE may vary, add to or remove the terms at any time; revised terms take effect when posted on the Platform, advance notice may not be given where a change must be made immediately, and changes may affect points already accumulated [1]. Keeping or using the membership, the member ID or a redemption after the effective date counts as acceptance, and a member who does not accept may terminate [1]. BIGLIFE also reserves the right to withdraw the membership and AirAsia Rewards in whole or in part with three months' prior notice [1]. The agreement is governed by Malaysian law, with the exclusive jurisdiction of the Malaysian courts, and the English text prevails over any translation [1].

The terms are written for individuals who earn at Merchants signed up by BIGLIFE and through paid travel booked at the Platform — the AirAsia website and/or the AirAsia MOVE mobile application — on AirAsia flights [1].

Step 2: How to join

You will learn: who may register, what makes an application complete, and the account rules that apply from day one.

Membership is open to all individuals globally, and registration is online at the Platform or through any other means or channels BIGLIFE determines; BIGLIFE reserves the right to charge a membership fee at its sole discretion [1]. During the application you must verify your email address, non-permanent or temporary addresses are not allowed, and if you do not verify within 72 hours of starting the application, the application is incomplete and a fresh application is needed [1]. Each member is entitled to one Account only, multiple Accounts and sharing an Account with several persons are not allowed, and BIGLIFE may reject any application at its sole and absolute discretion, with its decision final and conclusive [1]. A member with several Accounts may request a merge: BIGLIFE authenticates that the member IDs belong to the same person, the member chooses the principal Account, the merge is final and cannot be reversed, and XP is not transferred [1].

An applicant below 18 years old needs a parent and/or guardian to complete the application form on their behalf, and on turning 18 without cancelling, the member is deemed to have personally accepted the terms [1]. The AirAsia membership is a lifetime membership programme [1]. The membership and member ID are non-transferable and may be used only by the member, and members should frequently review the Account to check the points balance [1]. Voluntary cancellation is made by notice in writing and/or email, is irreversible, and forfeits the points and Qualifying Flown Sectors remaining in the Account [1].

Step 3: How earning works

You will learn: where AirAsia points come from, how flight earning is calculated, and how to claim points that did not post.

Once the member ID is issued, points are earned at any Merchant signed up by BIGLIFE for points issuance, and the earn structure varies from one Merchant to another, with the full list and structures on the "AirAsia rewards Site" [1]. Points are awarded on transactions performed in MYR, at the exchange rate BIGLIFE solely determines [1]. On flights, points are earned on certain flights only, on AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) flights flown on or after 12 March 2023, and on Thai AirAsia X Co. Ltd flights flown on or after 1 January 2026 [1].

Table E sets the accelerated earn rate by fare class and by Membership Tier at the time of departure, not the date of booking: Low Fare earns up to 1.5X, 3X, 5.5X and 10X points, and Premium Flex or Premium FlatBed earns 2X, 4X, 7X and 12X points, for Red, Gold, Platinum and Black respectively [1]. The printed example on an MYR 100 flight shows up to 150, 300, 550 and 1,000 points on Low Fare, and 200, 400, 700 and 1,200 points on Premium Flex or Premium FlatBed, for the same tier order [1]. Qualifying Flown Sectors are awarded on any promotional fares, but points are not earned on selected promotional fares as determined by AirAsia; an upgrade to a different class without reissuance of the ticket earns on the fare purchased, as reflected on the ticket; and tickets paid with AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) travel vouchers do not earn points [1].

Posting time depends on the Merchant's own terms, and adjustments are made for credits or debits such as returned goods, while disputed transactions are not credited [1]. Any retrospective claim is capped at 60 days from the fulfilment date — the flown date, completion date of stay or date of purchase — is not allowed if the member was not registered at the time of the transaction, and is processed within 14 days of the request once the required information is available [1].

Step 4: How to redeem AirAsia points

You will learn: what can be redeemed, what happens to points during and after a redemption, and the limits on transfers.

Members with accounts in good standing and sufficient points are eligible to redeem, and requests with insufficient points are not processed [1]. Redemptions cover flight redemptions on AirAsia flights — except flights operated by Thai AirAsia X Co. Ltd before 1 January 2026 and by AirAsia X Berhad (Malaysia) before 12 March 2023 — AirAsia ancillary products in-path only, and non-flight rewards, benefits, services or merchandise introduced by BIGLIFE [1]. Points are deducted and withheld until full payment for the redemption item is completed and the Merchant confirms successful payment, and withheld points are credited back when an unsuccessful payment confirmation is received [1]. Points are deducted so that the earliest-expiring points are used first, followed by the earliest accumulated, and points are not exchangeable in cash [1].

Once a redemption request is accepted it cannot be revoked, cancelled, changed, returned or exchanged, and points used for a redemption are not credited back [1]. All deals and rewards are subject to availability, a reward voucher does not constitute a reservation, and a voucher unused after its stated date lapses and is not replaced [1]. Effective 18 January 2021, a member may transfer points to another member for a transfer fee, in predefined denominations, with BIGLIFE reserving the right to impose limits on the number of points transferred and the number of transfers [1].

Step 5: Tiers and keeping your points

You will learn: how the four tiers are assessed, when reviews happen, and how long points last.

There are four membership tiers, with Red as the entry level, and members may progress to Gold, Platinum and Black by earning Qualifying Flown Sectors, signing up the applicable AirAsia Co-Brand Card and/or earning XP for spending within the Platform [1]. Table A sets the sector thresholds: Black at 50 or more, Platinum at 24 to 49, Gold at 14 to 23 and Red at 0 to 13, and Table A may change from time to time [1]. Short-haul flights operated by AK, FD, QZ, Z2 and KT count as one sector, long-haul flights operated by D7 and XJ count as two regardless of Fly-Thru, and Fly-Thru itself is computed as two sectors; in a combination of short-haul and long-haul flights the sector count is determined by the respective AirAsia airline at its sole discretion [1]. Sectors are not earned for a passenger no-show, for AirAsia flights redeemed with points and/or points plus cash, or for non-revenue fares such as charter flights, staff-related benefits and duty travel, and Black also includes members personally invited by BIGLIFE after internal review and approval [1].

An AirAsia Co-Brand Cardholder is automatically placed in the Platinum/Gold tier as applicable and is reviewed for requalification in the anniversary month of the card against criteria provided at airasiacards.com [1]. Table B prints minimum XP of 150,000 or more for Black, 80,000 or more for Platinum and 30,000 or more for Gold, and prints no XP figure for Red [1].

Two statements about promotion timing sit next to each other and differ: under Membership Tier Promotion, the terms first say that main tier promotion or upgrade is implemented or reflected in the system within five (5) days upon satisfaction of the applicable Qualifying Flown Sectors, achieving XP or activation of an AirAsia Co-Brand Card in selected countries, while the following sentence says the individual channels are reflected within five (5) days for Co-Brand and Platform and in the following month for Qualifying Flight Sectors, and Table C lists a Monthly review for Airlines [1]. Table C sets upgrade reviews as monthly for Airlines, upon Co-Brand Card activation for Co-Brand and daily for Platform [1]. Table D sets demotion as annually in the first week of January for Airlines, in the anniversary year for Co-Brand and quarterly in the first week of January, April, July and October for Platform, with demotion reflected in the system of the reviewing month [1].

Effective 1 June 2019, AirAsia points earned from that date remain valid for 24 months from the date of crediting and then expire and are deducted from the Account at the end of the 24th consecutive month [1]. No extension or further time frame is given for unused expired points unless BIGLIFE determines or approves otherwise, and BIGLIFE may configure a different expiry date for points awarded under specific promotions or campaigns [1].

Step 6: Your first concrete action

You will learn: the five checks to complete in your first weeks as a member.

  1. Register at the Platform and verify your email address within 72 hours (non-permanent or temporary addresses are not allowed), otherwise the application is incomplete and must be restarted — start at the official AirAsia Rewards membership page [1].
  2. Keep one Account only, and if you already hold more than one, request a merge; it follows authentication, is final, and XP is not transferred [1].
  3. Check every flight and Merchant credit, and claim missing points within 60 days of the fulfilment date, which is possible only if you were registered at the time of the transaction [1].
  4. Note the expiry of each batch of points: points earned from 1 June 2019 last 24 months from crediting, and the earliest-expiring points are used first when you redeem [1].
  5. Count your Qualifying Flown Sectors against 14, 24 and 50 in Table A, and check the review timing for your channel in Tables C and D [1].
