FREQUENT FLYER GLOSSARY
Fixed per segment
Fixed miles per segment awards a set number of miles or points per flight, in the example we verified in a few distance bands: every flight in a band earns the same, unlike distance × rate.

Key takeaways
- We have 2 verified distance-band rules.
- Within a band, short and long flights earn the same.
- Points only step up when you cross into the next band.
- Each booking class has its own fixed values.
How it differs from percentage earning
With percentage earning, miles grow smoothly with distance; with distance bands, every flight in a band earns the same and the number only jumps at the next band. Flights just above a band's lower limit are the best value.
Worked example
A verified WestJet Rewards rule uses distance bands; fixed points for class A (base members):
| Distance flown | Fixed points |
|---|---|
| 0–500 miles | Fixed points 500 |
| 501–1,000 miles | Fixed points 800 |
| 1,001–2,000 miles | Fixed points 1,100 |
| 2,001 miles and over | Fixed points 1,500 |
