Cathay Pacific Lounges: Programme Profile
Cathay Pacific lounge access is documented through two channels inside the Cathay Membership Programme: status benefits that include lounge passes, and redemption of a flight award for a lounge pass. [4] Both sit in the Cathay Membership Programme Terms and Conditions, effective 1 January 2026 (Hong Kong Time). [4]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- The Cathay Membership Programme is provided by Asia Miles Limited, and the published terms are effective on and from 1 January 2026, Hong Kong Time. [4]
- Cathay's terms carry a separate Status Benefits section and a Flight Awards – Lounge Pass Redemption section, so lounge passes appear both as a status benefit and as something redeemed with a flight award. [4]
- Lounge passes are tied to Status Point thresholds: Cathay says a Silver member earning 450 Status Points will still be able to earn two Business class Lounge Passes, while the Gold and Diamond mid-status lounge-pass benefits end at 12.00am on 1 January 2027. [3]
What the published rules cover
The terms state that the Cathay Membership Programme is provided by Asia Miles Limited and refer throughout to Cathay Pacific Airways Limited as Cathay Pacific or Cathay. [4] They also state that they govern the contractual relationship between Asia Miles Limited and members, and that they should be read with attention to the limitations and exclusions of liability they contain in favour of Asia Miles Limited, Cathay Pacific and partners. [4] The effective date given on the terms is 1 January 2026, Hong Kong Time. [4]
The table of contents lists a Status Benefits section and a Flight Awards – Lounge Pass Redemption section, and also a separate section titled Flight Awards – oneworld Multi-carrier Awards. [4] That structure places lounge passes in two distinct parts of the programme: a benefit attached to membership status, and an item redeemed as part of a flight award. [4]
Detail on the status side comes from Cathay's notice of key changes to the membership programme, which sets out changes taking effect from 1 January 2026 and, separately, changes taking effect on and from 1 January 2027, with all dates and times stated in Hong Kong Time. [3] The notice states that the updated terms reflecting the 2027 changes were not yet published at the time of the notice, and that Cathay would provide that version in 2026. [3]
Lounge passes as a status benefit
According to the notice, the arrangements in place at the time of publication gave Gold members two Business class Lounge Passes on earning 800 Status Points, and gave Diamond members two First class or Business class Lounge Passes on earning 1,400 Status Points, both as mid-status benefits. [3] Those mid-status benefits were earned inside a Status Points earning period rather than being attached automatically to the status itself. [3]
Among the changes taking effect on and from 1 January 2027, Silver mid-status benefits are renamed Silver milestone benefits, and a Silver member who earns 450 Status Points will still be able to earn two Business class Lounge Passes for themselves or travel companions when travelling together on a Cathay Pacific flight. [3] The Gold and Diamond mid-status benefit feature is removed from 12.00am on 1 January 2027, so Gold members will no longer be able to earn two Business class Lounge Passes as a mid-status benefit and Diamond members will no longer be able to earn First class and Business class Lounge Passes that way. [3]
For the transition, Cathay states that mid-status benefits can still be earned during 2026 and that all mid-status benefits remain valid for 12 months from the date of issue. [3] For the new Diamond Exec status, which requires a minimum of 2,400 Status Points in a Status Points earning period, the key benefits listed are a relationship manager, four single-sector Upgrade Passes for an upgrade up to First class, a complimentary Gold companion membership, and a buggy service when departing on a Cathay Pacific marketed flight from Hong Kong International Airport with a departure gate between gates 40 and 80, with one guest allowed on the same flight. [3] Lounge passes are not among the items in that published list of Diamond Exec key benefits. [3]
Changes from 1 January 2027 that affect when passes are earned
Because lounge passes are earned at Status Point thresholds, the periods in which Status Points count matter to anyone planning around them, and Cathay is changing those periods. [3] From 1 January 2027, a single Status Points earning period runs from 12.00am on 1 January to 11.59pm on 31 December each calendar year, and a single membership period ends at 11.59pm on 31 January of the following calendar year, for all members. [3] The Status Points balance will no longer reset to zero each time a member earns a higher status, but only at the end of each earning period, subject to rollover for Gold, Diamond and Diamond Exec members. [3] Rollover is capped at 300 Status Points for Gold, 600 for Diamond and 1,200 for Diamond Exec. [3]
For the 2026 transition, Cathay states that membership periods end at 11.59pm on 31 December 2026 and that status from 1 January 2027 is determined by Status Points earned between 1 January and 31 December 2026, so status held on 31 December 2026 does not carry over unless the required Status Points are earned in 2026. [3]
Exceptions and limits
- Companion condition. The Silver benefit described for 2027 covers two Business class Lounge Passes for the member or for travel companions when travelling together on a Cathay Pacific flight. [3]
- Validity. Mid-status benefits earned during 2026 stay valid for 12 months from the date of issue. [3]
- Start date. The removal of the Gold and Diamond mid-status lounge-pass benefit starts at 12.00am on 1 January 2027, Hong Kong Time, so the mid-status structure still applies up to that point. [3]
- Terms version. The terms effective 1 January 2026 do not reflect the 2027 changes; Cathay said it would provide the amended version in 2026. [3] [4]
