PROGRAMME PROFILE

China Southern Lounge: Sky Pearl Club Tier Access and Guests

China Southern Lounge access is set out in the Sky Pearl Club member handbook, which gives the programme's three elite tiers — Platinum, Gold and Silver — different lounge rights, and lets Platinum and Gold members bring companions in. [5] The airline's own site keeps a Lounges entry under Airport Service and highlights airports such as Guangzhou Baiyun, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao. [2]

Key takeaways

  • Lounge access is a benefit of the three elite tiers, not of the base tier: Silver members enter alone, Gold members may bring one companion and Platinum members two. [5]
  • The benefit is written as a China Southern programme rule and is provided only when China Southern is both the marketing carrier and the operating carrier of the flight. [5]
  • Where no elite lounge exists, Platinum and Gold members are moved into the first-class lounge with their companions and Silver members into the business-class lounge on their own. [5]
  • Lounge use can also be bought with miles as a value-added product through the airline's app, WeChat, website, hotline or service outlets. [5]

Access by Sky Pearl Club tier

Sky Pearl Club has four tiers, from highest to lowest Platinum, Gold, Silver and the base Sky Pearl tier. [5] The lounge row of the handbook's elite benefit table names only the top three. [5]

  • Platinum: the member plus two companions, with the entry marked as the two-cabin lounge. [5]
  • Gold: the member plus one companion. [5]
  • Silver: the member only, with no guest allowance. [5]
  • Base Sky Pearl tier: no lounge entitlement appears in the table. [5]

The handbook's fallback wording refers to first-class and business-class lounges, which shows that premium cabin lounges exist across the network. [5]

Airports and lounge types

The airline's English site carries a Lounges page under Airport Service, alongside information on main terminal buildings. [2] Its airport pages highlight Guangzhou Baiyun, Beijing Daxing, Chongqing Jiangbei and Urumqi Diwopu, and its airport search also lists Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao. [2]

The handbook limits where the benefit exists at all: China Southern provides lounge service only at lounges it operates or at lounges with which it has signed a lounge service agency agreement, and the standard of service depends on conditions at each airport. [5] An elite card therefore carries an entitlement that is filled in airport by airport rather than a promise of one specific lounge product everywhere. [5]

At the door: carrier, companions and miles

Which flights qualify. Sky Pearl Club elite benefits are provided only when the marketing carrier and the operating carrier are both China Southern. [5] Read the other way, a flight that shows a China Southern flight number but is operated by another carrier falls outside the benefit as written. [5]

Companions. A guest invited by a Platinum or Gold member must appear together with that member when lounge access is requested. [5] The handbook states the guest rule in those terms and sets out no separate procedure for a guest arriving later; the general mechanics of guest allowances are covered in lounge guest policy. [5]

Paying with miles. Lounge is among the services members can obtain with miles through the China Southern app and WeChat mini programme. [5] Lounge redemption is available through the app, WeChat, the website, the 95539 hotline and service outlets. [5] Sky Pearl Club sets no minimum mileage threshold before a member can redeem, so a member may redeem as soon as the product's own threshold is met, unless a product states otherwise. [5] The mileage price of value-added products can move with the market and depends on what is on sale. [5] Change and refund terms follow the rules of the individual product. [5]

Exceptions and limits

  • Edition of the rules. The handbook consulted is the February 2024 edition, and it states that where a version or printing is out of date, the rules published on the member website take precedence. [5]
  • How long the entitlement lasts. Platinum, Gold and Silver cards run from the date the tier is assessed to 28 February of the third year, so the lounge benefit follows the card rather than the calendar year. [5]
  • No alliance-wide reciprocity is published.
  • Elite members of other airlines. Vietnam Airlines' Lotusmiles pages list China Southern as an airline partner whose CZ-operated flights earn Lotusmiles bonus miles from 1 May 2024. [3]
  • Guests. Silver members have no guest allowance, so the two-companion rule applies to Platinum only and the one-companion rule to Gold only. [5]
  • Not covered here. Lounge facilities at airports outside China Southern's own network, paid third-party lounge schemes and the physical amenities inside any named lounge are outside the scope of this page. [2]
