PROGRAMME PROFILE

LATAM Lounge: Access, Guests and Elite Tiers

LATAM Lounge refers to lounge provision connected with LATAM Airlines and its LATAM Pass programme. LATAM's own programme pages set out how members earn redeemable miles and Qualifying Points and how the four Elite categories are built and renewed, but they do not publish lounge entry criteria by cabin or tier, guest allowances, paid entry or recognition of partner-airline status. [3] [4]

Key takeaways

  • LATAM Pass has four Elite categories — Gold, Platinum, Black and Black Signature — reached with Qualifying Points, which are separate from redeemable LATAM Pass Miles and cannot be spent. [4]
  • Annual targets are 12,000 Qualifying Points for Gold, 35,000 for Platinum, 100,000 for Black and 200,000 for Black Signature. [4]
  • Neither page describes lounge access granted through an airline alliance, so no alliance-based entitlement is presented here as current. [3] [4]

The Elite tiers behind the programme

LATAM Pass is organised around four Elite categories: Gold, Platinum, Black and Black Signature. [4] Movement between them is measured in Qualifying Points, which LATAM describes as the points that unlock Elite benefits and which cannot be redeemed; they exist only for qualification. [4] They are a different balance from LATAM Pass Miles, the redeemable currency used for award tickets. [3] [4]

The published annual targets are 12,000 Qualifying Points for Gold, 35,000 for Platinum, 100,000 for Black and 200,000 for Black Signature. [4] Members collect Qualifying Points between 1 January and 31 December, and that total fixes the Elite category for the next requalification cycle, which always falls on 31 March of the following year. [4] A category earned or retained is valid from 1 April of the following year until 31 March of the year after that. [4]

How tiers are reached and how miles accrue

On LATAM's own domestic flights, Qualifying Points accrue from the Light fare upwards at 3 points per R$1 spent, and on the Basic fare at 1 point per R$1, in both cases excluding fees and taxes. [4] On LATAM international flights the rate is 6 points per US$1 from the Light fare upwards and 1 point per US$1 on the Basic fare, again excluding fees and taxes. [4] Flights with partner airlines also generate Qualifying Points, but the rate varies by airline, fare and distance flown. [4] Extra Qualifying Points can be selected through Bônus LATAM Pass from 6,000 Qualifying Points. [4]

Redeemable miles work differently: the amount is a destination multiplier — one scale for domestic and regional flights, another for the rest of international flying — applied to the dollars spent on the ticket, less fees, taxes and additional services. [3] For domestic and regional flights the multipliers are LATAM x3, Gold x4, Platinum x7, Black x8 and Black Signature x9; for the rest of international flights they are LATAM x5, Gold x6, Platinum x9, Black x10 and Black Signature x11. [3] LATAM's own worked example takes a US$900 intercontinental ticket, subtracts US$100 of taxes, fees and additional services, and multiplies the remaining US$800 by six for a Gold member to give 4,800 LATAM Pass Miles. [3] Tickets redeemed with LATAM Pass Miles do not themselves accumulate miles after flying, and miles that are not credited automatically can be requested. [3] LATAM's earning page states that miles expire, but does not give a period on that page. [3]

Lounge entry: what is and is not published

The two LATAM pages used for this profile describe earning and Elite qualification rather than ground services, so they do not answer the questions a traveller normally brings to a LATAM lounge. [3] [4] In particular, they do not list which airports have a LATAM-operated lounge, and they do not set out access by cabin or by Elite category. [3] [4] That means this profile cannot state, for any individual station, whether a premium-cabin passenger is admitted, whether an Elite member is admitted, or how the two compare. [3] [4]

For partner airlines, the Qualifying Points earning rate varies by airline, fare and distance. [4]

Exceptions and limits

  • Qualifying Points cannot be redeemed and are used only for Elite qualification, so a large mileage balance does not by itself move a member towards a higher category. [4]
  • Annual renewal is dated 1 April, but a category upgrade reached mid-year is applied immediately once the new target is met, so the timing of the benefit and the timing of the renewal date do not match. [4]
  • Qualifying Points earned on partner airlines vary by airline, fare and distance, so identical spending does not produce identical progress on every carrier. [4]
  • Award tickets redeemed with LATAM Pass Miles do not accumulate miles after flying, even though the flights are flown with LATAM. [3]
