PROGRAMME PROFILE
Star Alliance branded lounges
Star Alliance branded lounges are lounges that carry the alliance's own name rather than a single member airline's, such as the Star Alliance Los Angeles Lounge at LAX and the Star Alliance Rio de Janeiro Lounge at GIG. [1] The alliance sells entry to them through its own booking page, and its news feed also reports a Star Alliance lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle and a new one at Guangzhou Baiyun Terminal 3. [1] [2] The rules the alliance publishes in detail for these lounges are the paid-entry rules, which are not the same document as a member airline's own lounge terms. [1]

Key takeaways
- Star Alliance puts its name on lounges at only a small number of airports: the paid-entry page features Los Angeles (LAX) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) [1], while alliance news reports a Star Alliance lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle and a new one at Guangzhou Baiyun Terminal 3 [2].
- Buying entry does not require frequent flyer status or a business class ticket, but the traveller must be flying on a Star Alliance member carrier [1].
- A reservation admits the named traveller and their listed guests to one specified lounge, on the date and time booked, for up to three hours unless the access document or the lounge says otherwise [1].
What the branded lounges are
Star Alliance describes 26 member airlines, more than 1,150 destinations and access to 1,000 lounges worldwide [2]. That headline figure covers the network as a whole; the branded lounges the alliance names on its own pages are far fewer [1] [2].
The Star Alliance Los Angeles Lounge sits in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, on the 6th floor and reachable by the elevator at the clock tower in the main atrium, and it opens 08:00–01:00 on all days [1]. The Star Alliance Rio de Janeiro Lounge is in Terminal 2, Level 3, after duty free and before the gates, and it opens 12:00–02:00 on all days [1]. Both are described as offering amenities such as food and beverages, entertainment and communication [1].
Alliance news adds two more locations: on 21 September 2026 it reported that the Star Alliance Paris Charles de Gaulle lounge retained a Skytrax title as the world's best airline alliance lounge, and on 28 April 2026 it announced a new Star Alliance lounge at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Terminal 3 [2]. A separate item dated 8 September 2026 says the alliance signed a memorandum of understanding with Incheon International Airport Corporation on cooperation on lounge operations; the item does not say that a lounge has opened [2].
Who can use them
The alliance's paid-entry answers say there is no restriction based on tier status or class of travel: if access was bought through the reservation website, neither frequent flyer status nor business class travel is needed [1]. The one condition is a flight on a Star Alliance member carrier [1]. A booking admits the traveller only to the lounge they reserved, not to others in the same airport [1].
A reservation can be made for someone else as long as the full name matches the boarding pass [1]. One answer limits a travel party to nine people including the person booking, while a separate answer on guests says access can be bought for up to nine additional guests under the same reservation; guests are admitted only in the presence of the person under whose name the booking was made [1]. The person reserving must be at least 18, and identification may be requested at the lounge entrance [1]. Child access is set lounge by lounge: some lounges admit children free of charge and others require a purchase for every child [1].
The FAQ is grouped into categories that include general information, Gold status holders and paid lounge access, with answers only under paid lounge access [1].
Booking and entry rules
A booking is made by choosing the lounge, the date and time of arrival, the number of places for the party, then the traveller details and payment; a confirmation email follows and is presented at the entrance [1]. Booking at the lounge itself works by scanning a barcode with a phone, with date and time preselected, and entry is available straight after purchase [1]. Taxes and service fees are included in the displayed lounge price [1].
At the door, the guest presents the reservation together with a valid boarding pass for the same day of travel, and identification may be requested [1]. Entry is allowed on the date and time specified in the reservation, and the stay runs for a maximum of three hours unless the access document or the lounge indicates otherwise [1]. The alliance says access is guaranteed once a reservation is completed, provided the guest follows lounge policies such as dress code and valid identification [1]. Some lounges restrict the times at which access can be bought, in which case a different date or time has to be chosen [1]. The first name, last name, email address, flight number and comments on a booking can be changed, but not the date and time, which requires cancelling and rebooking [1].
Cancellation is made through the "Manage my Reservation" link in the confirmation email [1]. The page says a reservation is fully refunded where it was cancelled more than 24 hours before the estimated entry time because the flight was cancelled or delayed by more than four hours, and that it is not refunded otherwise; where the booking was made less than 24 hours before entry, the refund is partial and excludes a service fee of 5% of the transaction [1]. A traveller refused entry despite holding a reservation is asked to email [email protected] with the lounge name, approximate entry time, the agent's name if known and the reason given [1]. For a general pre-flight routine, see the lounge access checklist.
Exceptions and limits
- Not the same as a member airline lounge. The published rules cover access bought through the alliance's reservation website [1], and each lounge also applies its own terms and conditions for entry, including dress code and conduct, plus its own policy on children [1]. Those house rules are the ones that decide admission at the door.
- One lounge, one slot. A reservation does not carry over to another lounge at the same airport, and the date and time cannot be edited afterwards [1].
- Money back only in narrow cases. Outside the flight-cancellation and four-hour-delay case described on the page, a reservation is not refunded [1].
- Portfolio in motion. The Guangzhou lounge was announced in April 2026 and the Incheon item of September 2026 is a cooperation agreement rather than an opening, so the set of branded lounges can change independently of the booking terms checked here [2].
- Entry prices, a complete list of branded lounges, the company operating each one, and the entitlements of Star Alliance Gold members at these specific lounges [1] [2].
