How does Booking.com Genius work?

Genius is Booking.com's free loyalty programme, and joining takes an email address and nothing else. [3] Creating a free Booking.com account unlocks Genius Level 1 immediately, bringing 10% off select stays and 10% off select rental cars. [3] Discounts are offered at 850,000 participating properties worldwide and on select rental cars. [3] They are applied automatically, with no codes to enter, and Genius options are flagged with a blue Genius label as the member searches. How do you earn Genius levels?

Genius counts reservations, not nights, rooms or money spent. [3] Each reservation counts as one booking however many nights, rooms or people it covers: several rooms in one hotel booked under a single reservation count once, and multiple seats on one flight, or a return flight booked under a single reservation, also count once. [3] Five completed bookings within two years is the threshold for Level 2, and 15 completed bookings within two years is the threshold for Level 3. What does each Genius level include?

Flight price alerts, the Level 1 benefit, track prices for a chosen route and date in the app; they are switched on with a toggle at the top of flight search results and managed or deleted from a saved list. Do higher Genius levels always mean bigger discounts?

Not necessarily. Booking.com says rewards generally increase as a member moves up through the levels, but that discount percentages can vary by property, and some participating properties offer the same discount to members at every level, so two members at different levels may see an identical discount at certain properties. [3] Higher levels still unlock larger discounts where they are available and more rewards on select options. [3] In many cases a Genius discount can be combined with other applicable discounts, offers and deals, and the eligibility criteria are shown before booking, so a final price may reflect several discounts working together rather than the Genius discount alone. • Several reservation types are excluded from Genius: ride hail, cruises, insurance, public transit, free options, and extra purchases such as room upgrades, car seats for rental cars and additional luggage. [3]
