How to use Amex UK Membership Rewards transfer partners

Membership Rewards transfer partners are the airline and hotel loyalty programmes to which an eligible American Express Membership Rewards account can send its points instead of spending them inside Amex's own rewards range. Amex says eligible customers can transfer points to participating frequent flyer or hotel loyalty programmes once the Rewards Account has been linked to a partner account. [3]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Amex says eligible Membership Rewards customers can transfer points to participating frequent flyer or hotel loyalty programmes, but the Rewards Account must first be linked to the partner account. [3]
  • The cardholder name and the name on the partner loyalty account must match for the accounts to link and the transfer to succeed. [3]
  • All points transfers are final and cannot be reversed, so availability and the number of points needed should be checked before transferring. [3]
  • Amex UK's transfer partners page did not display a partner list, ratios, minimums or transfer times when checked on 18 October 2026, so this guide publishes none of those details. [6]

How a transfer is set up

Amex's help centre sets out the conditions that apply before points can move. The Rewards Account has to be linked to a participating partner frequent flyer or hotel loyalty programme account. [3] The name on the card and the name on the chosen partner account must be the same, otherwise the accounts cannot be linked and the transfer will not be successful. [3] After sending points, the member checks the partner programme account to confirm they have arrived, then redeems them directly with the airline or hotel for the booking. [3]

A transfer can also go into an account held by an Additional Card Member linked to the same Rewards Account, not only into the main cardholder's account. [3] In that case the Additional Card must have been issued to that Additional Card Member at least 90 days before the Rewards Account is linked to their partner programme account. [3] Once the points land in the partner account they are governed by that programme's terms and conditions rather than by the Membership Rewards terms. [3]

Before you send the points

Amex describes every points transfer as final: it cannot be reversed. [3] Where the points are being moved in order to book a flight or a hotel room, Amex advises checking that the award is available and how many points it needs before the transfer is completed. [3] That sequencing matters because the airline or hotel, not Amex, holds the inventory and issues the ticket, and the redemption itself is made in the partner programme. [3] The steps for spending points after they arrive are covered in how to redeem Amex Membership Rewards.

What the UK pages do and do not show

Amex UK operates a Membership Rewards transfer partners page, but on 18 October 2026 that address returned a message saying the requested page could not be found, rather than a partner list. [6]

Because a transfer cannot be undone once it is made [3], the sensible order is to confirm the partner and the ratio that applies to the specific transfer on the Amex UK site first, and to compare that with the other routes out of a UK card account described in UK card points transfer partners. General definitions of the moving parts are in transfer partner and transfer ratio.

Exceptions and limits

  • No reversals. A transfer that has been completed cannot be cancelled or sent back, even if the award seat or room is no longer there when the member tries to book. [3]
  • Name matching. If the card and the partner loyalty account carry different names, the link cannot be made and the transfer will not go through. [3]
  • Additional Card timing. Points can go to a linked Additional Card Member's partner account only if that card was issued at least 90 days before the accounts were linked. [3]
  • Partner rules take over. After the transfer, the points sit under the partner programme's terms and conditions, which may cover expiry, cancellation and changes to an award booking. [3]
  • Not published.

It covers American Express Membership Rewards only; other card loyalty schemes, and the individual airline and hotel programmes themselves, are not covered here and their own transfer rules are outside this page. Partner lists and ratios change, so the current Amex UK position should be read from the programme's own pages rather than from any secondary summary.
