How to transfer UK credit card points to travel partners

UK card points transfer partners are the airline and hotel programmes into which a British credit card's reward currency can be moved. Avios collected on a Barclaycard Avios card is transferred each month to a linked British Airways Club account. [2] [7]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • On a Barclaycard Avios card the published movement of points is automatic and monthly: the Avios collected with the card goes to the British Airways Club account linked to the card on the second working day of the next month. [2] [7]
  • Avios is described as the reward currency of The British Airways Club and can be spent on flights, upgrades, hotel stays, car hire and more, with reward flights bookable with British Airways and its partners where availability exists; the page does not list those partners. [2]
  • A Rewards Credit Card earns reward points on eligible purchases. [8]

Which UK card currencies this covers

Barclaycard Avios cards. The standard Barclaycard Avios card collects 1 Avios for every £1 spent on eligible purchases and carries no monthly fee. [2] When the card is issued it is linked either to an existing British Airways Club membership or to a new one set up during the application. [2] The page frames Avios as the reward currency of The British Airways Club, which is the account the card feeds. [2] [7] For the card-by-card comparison of UK Avios products, see Avios credit cards in the UK compared.

HSBC reward points. A Rewards Credit Card is described as "Earn reward points on eligible purchases you make", alongside balance transfer, purchase, credit-builder and Premier cards. [8]

The Avios route from card to Club account

Earning. Avios accrues on purchases, balance transfers and money transfers made within the credit limit, but not on transactions that form the cash balance, which the page lists as cash withdrawals, wire transfers and buying currency. [2] No Avios is collected on transactions that are later returned or refunded, or on spending above the agreed credit limit. [2]

Moving. The Avios collected with the card is transferred to the linked British Airways Club account each month, on the second working day of the next month. [2] [7] Only one British Airways Club membership can be linked to a card, and the running balance can be seen in the Barclays or Barclaycard app as well as in the Club account. [2]

Spending. The page lists flights, upgrades, hotel stays, car hire and more as uses for Avios, with reward flights available to worldwide destinations where there is availability with British Airways and its partners, and taxes, fees and carrier charges payable per person. [2] Its two worked examples, both stated as correct as of June 2026, are an off-peak Economy return from London to Paris at 20,000 Avios plus £5, and an off-peak Club Europe return from London to Rome at 44,000 Avios plus £40. [2]

Ratios and transfer times

Two things usually decide whether a transfer is worth making: how many card points become one airline mile, and how long the move takes. For Barclaycard Avios cards, the timing is a monthly sweep on the second working day of the following month, so the wait depends on when in the month the spend lands rather than on a transfer being requested. [2] [7]

The card also produces a British Airways cabin upgrade voucher when £20,000 is spent on the card within 12 months, as an alternative to 7,000 bonus Avios. [2] The voucher can take up to five working days to appear in the Club account after it is redeemed, and travel must commence within 24 months of the date of issue. [2] A voucher is not a points transfer, and it only works on an Avios Reward Flight booking. [2]

Before planning around any transfer, the general checks in the transfer points checklist and the notes on transfer time apply: ratio and speed are set by the individual programme, not by a shared UK rule. [2] [8]

Exceptions and limits

  • One membership per card. A Barclaycard Avios card can be linked to a single British Airways Club membership only, so the household or account it feeds has to be chosen at the start. [2]
  • Activity test on reward seats. To be eligible for Reward Flight Saver pricing, at least 1 Avios must have been collected in the past 12 months, and other pricing options exist. [2]
  • Welcome bonus once. The 5,000 Avios bonus for spending £1,000 in the first three months is for customers new to Barclaycard; someone switching from another Barclaycard gets 1,000 Avios on the Avios card at £1,000 of spend, or 5,000 Avios on the Avios Plus card at £3,000 of spend, and the bonus is paid only once. [2]
  • Voucher restrictions. A cabin upgrade voucher moves the booking up one cabin where available, cannot be used to upgrade to First, must be applied when the Reward Flight is booked and cannot be added to an existing booking. [2]
  • Bank account version. Barclays Avios Rewards, which sits alongside the card, is open to Premier Banking or personal Wealth current account holders, needs a British Airways Club account, carries a £12 monthly fee and requires opting out of Barclays Blue Rewards and going paperless. [2]
  • Dated prices. The two reward examples on the Barclaycard page are stated as correct as of June 2026, so they are an illustration from that date rather than a live price list. [2]
