How to book Royal Jordanian Royal Club award flights

How do you request a Royal Club award?

The rules below come from the Royal Club terms and conditions, effective from 22 September 2018 and amended from time to time, which are governed by the laws of Jordan. [6] Royal Club is the frequent flyer programme operated by Royal Jordanian, a member of the oneworld alliance. [6] [1] A member may redeem miles once the account holds the level required for the award being requested. [6] Bronze Sunbird, the tier every accepted applicant starts on, can redeem miles only after at least one flight activity has been credited. [6] An account that has not completed email verification cannot redeem or transfer miles until it does. [6]

Requests are submitted through the Royal Club website pages, the Royal Jordanian call centre, or Royal Jordanian sales offices worldwide, 14 days or more before the intended travel date, and Royal Jordanian reserves the right to reject a request. [6] Travel agencies are not allowed to issue award tickets. [6] When booking, the member states their full name and membership number and, where a partner asks for it, shows the membership card and provides any further information required. [6]

Award seats depend on availability, and Royal Jordanian or its partners may set periods when no award is available; if an award is unavailable or cancelled, the member picks another award within its validity period. [6] Every segment must be confirmed at the time of issue, open dates are not permitted on an award ticket, and all award travel must be completed within 12 months of the ticket issue date. [6] Where an award is supplied by a partner rather than by Royal Jordanian, that partner's own booking and ticketing terms apply. [6]

Gold Sparrow and Platinum Hawk members can present an award ticket to a non-member. [5] [4] In a Family Club account, only the head of the account may request a redemption or award against the pooled miles. [6]

What does a Royal Club award cost in miles, fees and taxes?

Award levels are set by Royal Jordanian and are subject to change at any time. [6] Award tickets carry additional fees, government charges and taxes, and paying them is the member's responsibility. [6] Awards cannot be exchanged for cash, and they may not be bought, sold, bartered or transferred to another person. [6] An award ticket does not earn Royal Club miles, and award tickets on Royal Jordanian or oneworld partners do not count towards segment totals. [6]

A member who needs to top up a balance can buy award miles in blocks of 1,000, up to 150,000 miles in a calendar year; purchased miles are non-refundable and cannot be used towards a higher membership tier. [6] Miles can also be gifted to another member, from 1,000 up to 150,000 miles, with a cap of 150,000 gifted miles received per year; gifted miles are non-refundable and do not count towards tier progression. [6]

An award ticket is valid for one year from the date of issue, after which it expires and has no value. [6]

Can you change or cancel a Royal Club award ticket?

Royal Club award tickets are non-refundable, and miles redeemed for an award ticket on Royal Jordanian or any of its oneworld partner airlines are not refunded. [6] An award ticket issued for travel on Royal Jordanian flights can still be exchanged: the permitted changes are limited to date, time, route and class of service, and they may attract extra charges such as taxes, fees, government charges, additional miles and other costs. [6]

Those changes must be made by the member or a nominated travel coordinator, never as a name change, are subject to capacity, and must be requested no later than 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the first flight on the itinerary; Royal Jordanian may charge for each permitted change. [6] Award bookings for travel on airline partners cannot be changed at all. [6]

If a member cancels an award itinerary made up wholly or partly of flights operated by an airline partner, all Royal Club miles for that award are forfeited. [6] Miles are also not re-credited when a member cancels an award booking after departure, or fails to travel and is recorded as a no-show, in which case the airline may cancel any onward or return reservations. [6]

Exceptions and limits

• Miles, cash or a complimentary upgrade voucher cannot be used to upgrade an award ticket; class upgrades on Royal Jordanian-operated and marketed flights are possible only on full-fare revenue tickets, and a voucher cannot upgrade an economy class award ticket. [6]
• Excess baggage awards are limited to Royal Jordanian flights, on a per-segment basis, and cannot be used on codeshare or partner flights. [6]
• While an account is under audit, the member may be unable to make award bookings, redeem or accrue miles. [6]
• Award miles do not expire while the account stays active; 18 months with no accrual, redemption, purchase, transfer, donation or gifting activity turns the account inactive and the award miles expire. [6] [5]
• Royal Jordanian may end a partner relationship at any time, and each partner may amend or withdraw the awards it provides. [6]
• Royal Jordanian takes no responsibility for accommodation when travel is on an issued award ticket, and accepts no liability when a partner fails to provide an award. [6]

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should you request a Royal Club award?

Submit the request at least 14 days before the intended travel date, through the Royal Club website pages, the Royal Jordanian call centre or a Royal Jordanian sales office. [6]

Can a Royal Club award ticket be booked with a waitlisted flight?

No. An award ticket is issued only when every segment in the itinerary is confirmed, and it will not be issued if any segment is waitlisted. [6]

Are taxes included in a Royal Club award?

No. Award tickets are subject to additional fees, government charges and taxes, and the member pays them. [6]

Can you change the date on a Royal Club award ticket?
