How to buy Wyndham Rewards points and price an award night
Wyndham Rewards is the loyalty programme of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, offered by Wyndham Rewards, Inc., and its points are not cash: the programme terms say they have no cash value and cannot be sold, bartered or transferred except as explicitly authorised, while award nights themselves start at 7,500 points and can require up to 30,000 points per bedroom per night. Key takeaways
- Wyndham Rewards is offered by Wyndham Rewards, Inc., an indirect subsidiary of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc., and the current terms took effect on 30 September 2026. [3]
- Points have no cash value and cannot be sold, bartered or transferred except as explicitly authorised in the terms, so any purchase is only worth what the award night it buys is worth to you. [3]
- Free nights start at 7,500 points and redemption requirements vary by property, reaching as high as 30,000 points per bedroom per night; taxes and resort fees are payable separately. [4] [5]
- Points expire four years after the date they are posted unless they are forfeited or cancelled earlier for account inactivity. [3]
What does a Wyndham award night cost?
Wyndham Rewards prices award stays per bedroom per night, and a member must hold enough points for all the bedrooms in the accommodation they want before booking. [4] Redemption requirements vary by property and can be as high as 30,000 points per bedroom. [4] Free nights start at 7,500 points, and free nights at participating properties require between 7,500 and 30,000 points. [4] [5]
| Award type | Points | Cash still payable |
|---|---|---|
| Free night (Go Free award) | From 7,500 points, up to 30,000 points per bedroom per night [4] [5] | Taxes and resort fees may apply even on a free night, and points cannot be used to pay them [4] |
| Discounted night with points plus cash | From 750 points plus cash [4] | The cash portion varies by property and date [4] |
Because the points side of the equation is set per property rather than per programme, the useful comparison is between the points a night actually costs and the cash price of the same room; that trade-off is worked through in hotel points vs cash. [4]
How do you test an offer against an award night?
- Confirm the property participates. ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham hotels do not participate in the programme, Travelodge properties outside the United States, Canada and Mexico do not participate, and the list of participating hotels can change at any time without notice. [3]
- Price the exact night, not the programme floor. Requirements vary by property and can reach 30,000 points per bedroom, so look up the property and dates you want rather than planning around the 7,500-point starting level. [4] [5]
- Count the bedrooms. You must have enough points for every bedroom in the accommodation you are booking. [4]
- Add back the cash the points do not cover. Taxes and resort fees may still apply on a free night and cannot be paid with points, and a discounted night carries a cash portion that varies by property and date. [4]
- Check availability and date restrictions. Award stays are subject to availability, blackout dates and rates, and other restrictions. [4] [5]
- Check the clock on the points. Points expire four years after the posting date, and posting dates vary with the type of activity that earned them, so points held for a later trip can lapse before the stay. [3]
If the maths only works because of a limited-time offer, read the offer's own conditions; programmes describe points earned through a limited-time offer, promotion or special rate as promotional points, which is covered in promotional miles. [3] The wider mechanics of topping up a hotel balance are set out in buying hotel points.
What do the programme terms say about point value?
Points in a member's account do not constitute property of the member, have no cash value, and cannot be sold, bartered or transferred except as explicitly authorised in the terms. [3] The terms also allow the sponsor to modify, alter, suspend, delete or add terms at any time without notice, expressly including point values, redemption levels, conversion ratios, member level benefits, earning methods and ratios. [3] Wyndham Rewards may convert the programme and members' points into different awards programmes with different point values at any time without notice, which means the number of points needed to reach a reward level may be increased. [3]
Three further rules shape what a balance is worth. Points expire four years after the date they are posted, and all accrued points may be cancelled or forfeited if the member has no account activity for approximately, but never less than, eighteen consecutive months; account activity means point earning, and redemption or transfer activity that changes the point balance. [3] An account may be terminated where there has been no account activity for sixty consecutive months, and points remaining at that point are forfeited. [3] The terms distinguish base points, promotional points, additional points and accelerated earning points, and state that these labels are used only to describe how points were earned, not to convey differences in value or restrictions on use. [3]
Exceptions and limits
- Vacasa free nights have ended. From 1 December 2025 members can no longer redeem Wyndham Rewards points for Free Nights at Vacasa Vacation Rentals; the last date to redeem was 30 November 2025, and reservations made by then can be cancelled under the programme's cancellation policy but can no longer be otherwise modified. [3]
- Cardmember exception on expiry. Points earned by a Wyndham Rewards Earner Premier Card cardmember do not expire under the expiry section for as long as the cardmember's account is open and in good standing. [3]
- Residence-based terms. Members whose habitual residence is in China are subject to the special terms in Section I(29) of the programme terms. [3]
- Business programme carve-out. The programme terms do not apply to the Wyndham Rewards Business Program except where specifically incorporated into that programme's own terms. [3]
- Per-property differences. Redemption requirements, the cash portion of a points-plus-cash night, and the taxes and resort fees on a free night all vary by property and date, so one property's award price does not carry over to another. [4]
Frequently asked questions
How many Wyndham Rewards points do you need for a free night?
Free nights start at 7,500 points, and requirements at participating properties range from 7,500 to 30,000 points per bedroom per night. [4] [5]
Do Wyndham Rewards points expire?
