Hotel direct booking and loyalty benefits: check eligibility first
A hotel name on the building does not settle loyalty eligibility. Rate type, booking channel, property participation and programme terms all matter.
Check before paying
Open the hotel programme’s current terms and identify the exact property, rate and reservation channel. A booking can be ineligible for points or elite-night credit even when the stay is at a participating brand. Online travel agencies, wholesale packages, tour rates and certain negotiated rates may be treated differently.
Ask precise questions
- Does this rate qualify for base points and elite-night credit?
- Will the property recognize my status and which benefits apply to this rate?
- Can I add my loyalty number to this booking, and will the hotel confirm it?
- Who controls changes, cancellation and payment: the hotel or the seller?
- Will separate room reservations be credited to the right member?
Compare the whole reservation
Compare the same dates, room type, occupancy, cancellation terms, taxes and included services. A lower third-party price may not earn programme credit; an official channel may have a different rate or flexibility. Decide using the total stay cost and the benefits you can actually use, not the loyalty logo alone.
At check-in and after checkout
Confirm the loyalty number and eligible rate at check-in. Keep the final folio and confirmation. After checkout, compare the posted stay with the receipt; if credit is missing, submit a claim through the programme’s official channel before the stated deadline. Avoid sending payment-card details through an unsecured message.
