Hotel folio checklist: keep the record needed for points and disputes
The folio is both a payment record and supporting evidence for stay credit. Review it before departure and request corrections while the hotel can still see the account.
Review the itemized bill
Check the guest name, property, stay dates, room charges, taxes, deposits, restaurant or parking items, adjustments and final payment. Make sure the folio reflects the room and rate you actually used.
Raise a correction before departure
If an item is unfamiliar or a promised adjustment is missing, ask the front desk for an explanation and corrected folio. Request the staff member’s name or a case reference. For an unresolved charge, contact the property’s billing team using its official contact channel.
Save records for account credit
Keep the final folio and booking confirmation until the points, qualifying nights and any promotion credit post. If you need to make a missing-stay claim, these documents help establish the dates, guest, rate and eligible charges. Redact card details before uploading a copy.
If you need the bill later
Use the hotel’s official account or support page to retrieve a past folio. Marriott describes online bill access for some North American stays and a contact form for other cases; Hilton says receipt availability varies by hotel and a property may need to provide the copy. Do not assume every brand has the same archive.
