How to earn Singapore KrisFlyer miles

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is the frequent flyer programme of Singapore Airlines, and members earn KrisFlyer miles from flights on Singapore Airlines, Scoot and partner airlines, and from credit cards, hotel stays, car rental and other programme partners. [3] [6] On Singapore Airlines, a flight earns the actual distance flown multiplied by an accrual level set by cabin and booking class, from 50% in the lowest economy classes to 200% in Suites and First. [3] [6]

Key takeaways

  • Most Singapore Airlines booking classes earn KrisFlyer miles, but not every ticket does: award and redemption tickets, infant fares and several discounted fare types earn nothing. [3] [6]
  • The accrual level runs from 200% of miles flown in Suites and First Class down to 50% in the lowest economy booking classes. [3]
  • Partner airlines set their own accrual rates, and flights operated by airlines that are not KrisFlyer partners do not earn, even when Singapore Airlines markets the flight. [6]
  • Each flight can be credited to one frequent flyer programme only, and miles cannot be pooled or moved between members. [3] [6]
  • Elite miles, which build status, are separate from redeemable KrisFlyer miles and reset at the end of each membership year. [6]

How do you earn KrisFlyer miles on Singapore Airlines flights?

KrisFlyer miles are awarded on most booking classes on Singapore Airlines flights, in Suites, First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. [3] The base figure is the actual distance between the departure airport and the arrival airport, calculated using the great circle formula, plus any bonuses that apply; on a connecting itinerary each sector is counted separately. [6] That distance is then multiplied by the accrual level for the cabin and booking class. [3] [6]

KrisFlyer accrual on Singapore Airlines flights
CabinBooking classAccrual level (of actual miles travelled)
Suites / FirstA, F200%
BusinessZ, C, J150%
BusinessD, U125%
Premium EconomyS, T125%
Premium EconomyR, L, P100%
EconomyB, E, Y100%
EconomyM, H, W75%
EconomyQ, N, V, K, G50%

The table explains why two passengers on the same aircraft can earn very different amounts: a Suites or First ticket in booking class A or F earns double the miles flown, while the lowest economy classes Q, N, V, K and G earn half. [3] [4]

If a ticket is upgraded to a higher cabin, KrisFlyer miles and Elite miles are credited on the booking class of the original ticket before the upgrade, not on the cabin actually flown. [3] Children aged two or above earn the same number of KrisFlyer miles as adults travelling in the same booking class. [3]

How do you earn KrisFlyer miles on partner airlines and Scoot?

Members can earn and redeem KrisFlyer miles with partner airlines, and accrual rates vary between those partners, so the rate has to be checked for the specific airline and booking class before booking. [3] [6]

Not every partner flight earns. No KrisFlyer miles are awarded on codeshare flights that are marketed by Singapore Airlines but operated by an airline that is not a KrisFlyer partner, and individual airlines may exclude accrual on certain flights, such as codeshares. [6]

Scoot flights work differently from Singapore Airlines flights. For an itinerary made up only of Scoot-operated flights, booked on FlyScoot.com or the Scoot mobile app, miles are based on the fare value rather than the distance: one KrisFlyer mile per Singapore dollar spent on fares and selected ancillaries, excluding e-visa, travel insurance, Scoot Protect, infant fares and credit card processing fees. [3] That rate can change without notice. [3] Scoot flying also earns Elite miles, at 2.5 Elite miles for every KrisFlyer mile earned. [3] Where one itinerary mixes Singapore Airlines and Scoot sectors, miles are based on the distance flown, the fare class and any bonuses. [6]

How do you earn KrisFlyer miles without flying?

Credit and charge cards are one route: members earn card points on eligible purchases and convert them to KrisFlyer miles at the rate set by the card partner, while co-branded cards deposit miles into the KrisFlyer account automatically each month. [6] Card points converted by a principal cardholder can only be credited to that person's own KrisFlyer or PPS Club account. [3]

Hotels and car rental work on defined qualifying transactions. A hotel stay means any number of consecutive nights at one hotel, regardless of how many rooms are booked or how often the member checks in, and miles can also come from converting hotel reward points. [6] A qualifying car rental earns miles per rental, whatever the number of days or cars. [6] Other partners, including telecommunications and e-commerce companies, set their own terms. [6]

Shopping on krisshop.com earns 1.5 KrisFlyer miles per Singapore dollar paid with a credit or debit card, credited six to eight weeks after the transaction. [3] Hotel and car rental bookings made on krisflyervrooms.com earn no KrisFlyer miles at all, even when part of the booking is paid by card. [3] [6] Non-flight miles are earned only by the member who performs the transaction with the partner, not by family members or travel companions. [6]

How do you make sure the miles reach your account?

Quote the KrisFlyer membership number when booking and present the membership card when flying or using a partner's services, and check whether the partner asks for anything else, such as a promotional code at the time of booking. [3] [6]

Partner transactions are verified before credit is given: airline partner miles usually appear two to four weeks after the flight, and non-airline partner miles six to eight weeks after the transaction. [3] The programme's terms ask members to allow two weeks for Singapore Airlines flights and four weeks for partner airline flights before raising a missing miles claim, and claims are accepted within six months of the transaction date. [6]

Only one frequent flyer programme can be credited for a given flight or transaction; if a member tries to accrue with more than one programme for the same flight, the miles awarded for it are forfeited. [6] Flight miles go to the member who travels, whoever paid for the ticket. [6] KrisFlyer accounts are personal, pooling is not permitted, and miles cannot be transferred to another member or to another programme. [3] [6]

Which fares, tickets and flights do not earn?

  • Award tickets and redemption tickets earn no KrisFlyer miles, Elite miles or PPS Value, and the higher cabin on a redemption upgrade earns nothing either — the original booking class keeps earning. [3]
  • No miles are awarded on infant fares, industry and agency discounts, charter flights, or other special discounted tickets specified by Singapore Airlines or its airline partners. [6]
  • On a ticket paid partly with KrisFlyer miles, miles are earned in proportion to the cash paid by credit or debit card, excluding items such as airport taxes. [6]
  • Miles are earned once per flight per person, regardless of how many seats are purchased. [6]
  • Elite miles are tracked separately from redeemable miles, cannot be used for awards or airfares, and reset to zero at the end of each membership year. [6] Elite Silver requires 25,000 Elite miles and Elite Gold 50,000 Elite miles, each earned within 12 consecutive months. [4] [5]
  • From 1 September 2025, Elite miles can also be earned on spend with Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago at 1 Elite mile per Singapore dollar, but non-flight Elite miles count only up to 5,000 towards an Elite Silver upgrade or renewal and up to 10,000 towards an Elite Gold upgrade or renewal. [4] [6]

Do you earn KrisFlyer miles on award flights?

No. Flights booked with miles as award or redemption tickets earn no KrisFlyer miles, Elite miles or PPS Value, and miles spent on a redemption upgrade do not earn on the higher cabin either. [3] [6]

Allow two weeks for Singapore Airlines flights and four weeks for partner airline flights before submitting a claim, which must be made within six months of the transaction date. [6]

No. Flight miles accrue to the member travelling regardless of who pays for the ticket, and pooling miles between accounts is not permitted. [6]

No. Bookings on krisflyervrooms.com earn no KrisFlyer miles, even if part of the cost is paid with a credit or debit card. [3] [6]
