How to qualify for Qantas Frequent Flyer Lifetime Gold
Qantas Frequent Flyer Lifetime Gold is a permanent Gold tier in Qantas Frequent Flyer, awarded once a member has earned 14,000 Status Credits across their membership years, after which Gold membership is held for life regardless of how often the member flies. [1] [2]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Lifetime Gold is set at 14,000 Status Credits, built from the Status Credits a member earns in each Membership Year, and Gold is awarded for life once that total is reached. [1] [2]
- Annual Gold is a yearly target: 700 Status Credits to attain and 600 to keep, each including four flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ or GK) flight number on the ticket. [1] [4]
- Lifetime Gold includes one world® Sapphire status; Qantas lists one world Emerald for Platinum and Platinum One. [2] [1] [4]
- If a member's current flying status is higher than their lifetime tier, the lifetime benefits activate only once the higher status lapses. [2]
What is Qantas Frequent Flyer Lifetime Gold?
Qantas Frequent Flyer is the loyalty programme of Qantas, the Australian airline, and Status Credits are its tier currency: they are separate from Qantas Points, a member may earn both on the same flight, and they reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [1] [4]
Qantas keeps a record of all the Status Credits a member has earned since joining the programme, and that record is what the lifetime tiers are calculated on. [2] Earn enough Status Credits and Silver, Gold or Platinum membership is held for life, regardless of how often the member then flies. [1] [2]
Qantas lists these Lifetime Gold benefits: global lounge privileges with access to over 600 Qantas and partner lounges, priority boarding, a 75% Status Bonus on Qantas and Jetstar as well as American Airlines, and one world® Sapphire status, in each case with conditions applying. [2] The Status Bonus is calculated on the actual Qantas Points earned in the Economy cabin, and on the Flexible Economy earn rate for travel in premium cabins. [2]
Lifetime members can see their lifetime status at the bottom of their digital Qantas Frequent Flyer card in the Qantas App. [2]
How do you qualify for Qantas Lifetime Gold?
The requirement Qantas publishes is a lifetime Status Credit balance: 14,000 Status Credits for Lifetime Gold. [1] [2] Status Credits earned in every Membership Year contribute to that balance, and recognition is awarded as soon as the required number has been earned. [1] [4]
| Lifetime tier | Status Credits required | one world tier listed |
|---|---|---|
| Lifetime Silver | 7,000 | Ruby |
| Lifetime Gold | 14,000 | Sapphire |
| Lifetime Platinum | 75,000 | Emerald |
Status Credits are earned on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, one world member and one world connect airlines only, and may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [1] [4] The Lifetime page attaches its own condition to the lifetime balance: only Status Credits earned for travel on eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar Group (JQ or GK) flight number within a Membership Year count towards the required threshold for this benefit. [2]
Each member's Membership Year is set by the date they joined the programme and can be found in My Account or in the Qantas App. [3] [5]
How does Lifetime Gold differ from annual Gold?
Annual Gold is earned inside one Membership Year and has to be met again; Lifetime Gold is a balance that results in Gold for life once it is reached. [1] [2] The two sets of numbers are published side by side.
| Target | Status Credits | Flights condition | Measured over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold — attain | 700 | Four flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ or GK) flight number | One Membership Year |
| Gold — keep | 600 | Four flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ or GK) flight number | One Membership Year |
| Lifetime Gold | 14,000 | See the lifetime condition on the Qantas Lifetime page | All Membership Years combined |
Qantas has announced a move to a single Status Credit target to retain and attain each tier, with Gold requiring 700 Status Credits a year instead of 700 to attain and 600 to retain, and the change to retain targets coming into effect later in 2027. [3] The Status Credits needed to attain Lifetime Silver, Lifetime Gold and Lifetime Platinum are not changing. [3]
What changes from December 2026 and in 2027?
From 8 December 2026, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members can roll over 50% of the Status Credits they earn above their tier's attain requirement, up to a maximum of 350 for Gold and 500 for Platinum and Platinum One each Membership Year; Silver members can roll over 25% of excess Status Credits up to 100. [3] Members who hold Lifetime Silver, Lifetime Gold or Lifetime Platinum are eligible, and a Lifetime Gold member who also holds annual Platinum receives the Platinum rollover amount. [3] Rolled-over Status Credits do not contribute towards Lifetime Status. [3]
Also from 8 December 2026, members can earn up to 140 Status Credits each Membership Year on the ground by collecting Qantas Points across ten categories, including credit cards, banking and home loans, insurance, car, home utilities, hotels and everyday shopping. [3] [5] Those Status Credits count towards lifetime balances, although they do not count towards the Loyalty Bonus or the Platinum and Platinum One bonus rewards. [3] [5] No Status Credits on the ground are awarded until the feature launches on 8 December 2026. [5]
From 2027, Lifetime Gold members gain five lifetime milestones: a complimentary year of Platinum status at 25,000, 35,000, 45,000, 55,000 and 65,000 Status Credits, with up to five banked years that can be activated at a time of the member's choosing, carry no expiry date, and are forfeited if the member reaches Lifetime Platinum. [3]
Exceptions and limits
- Lifetime benefits can wait. If a member's current flying status is higher than their Lifetime Silver, Gold or Platinum status, the lifetime benefits only activate once the higher status lapses. [2]
- Two different counting rules. The general status tables count Status Credits from eligible Qantas, Jetstar, one world member and one world connect flights, with four needed on QF or JQ/GK flight numbers for annual attain and retain [1] [4], while the Lifetime page limits the lifetime threshold to Status Credits earned on eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar Group (JQ or GK) flight number within a Membership Year [2].
- Not every fare earns. Status Credits may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [1] [4]
- Caps on ground earning. Status Credits on the ground are capped at 140 per Membership Year, exclude transferred credit card rewards points, card bonus points, hotel programme points, family transfers and top-up points, and do not count towards Status Accelerator or Challenge requirements. [3] [5]
- Alliance level. Lifetime Gold includes one world Sapphire status [2], and Qantas lists one world Emerald for Platinum and Platinum One rather than for Gold [1] [4].
- Benefits can change. Qantas states that the programme's rewards and benefits may change from time to time. [1] [2]
Frequently asked questions
How many Status Credits do you need for Qantas Lifetime Gold?
14,000 Status Credits. [1] [2] For comparison, Lifetime Silver is 7,000 and Lifetime Platinum is 75,000. [2]
Is Lifetime Gold based on years of Gold membership?
Qantas sets it as a Status Credit balance: Status Credits earned in every Membership Year add to the lifetime total, and Gold is awarded for life once 14,000 have been earned. [1] [2]
Does Lifetime Gold give one world Emerald status?
No. Qantas lists one world Sapphire among the Lifetime Gold benefits, while one world Emerald appears against Platinum and Platinum One. [2] [1] [4]
Do you still requalify once you have Lifetime Gold?
Gold becomes yours for life once the threshold is reached, regardless of how often you then fly, so the annual retain targets apply to the current flying tier rather than to the lifetime tier. [1] [2]
Do Status Credits earned on the ground count towards Lifetime Gold?
Yes. From 8 December 2026, up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year earned on the ground count towards lifetime balances. [3] [5]
