How to earn Qantas Points without flying
Earning Qantas Points without flying means collecting Qantas Points through the non-flight partners of the Qantas Frequent Flyer programme, which Qantas says number more than 500 and cover credit cards, banking and home loans, insurance, home utilities, car, hotels, holidays and everyday shopping. [1] [3] You must be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member to earn and redeem Qantas Points, and a joining fee may apply. [1] [3]

Key takeaways
- Qantas groups its non-flight earning under credit cards, banking and home loans, everyday shopping, insurance, home utilities, car, hotels and accommodation, and holidays and experiences, and publishes an A–Z of partners. [1]
- Published rates differ by partner: 3 Qantas Points per A$1 on Qantas Hotels bookings, 3 Qantas Points per A$1 on Qantas Wine for Wine Premium members, and staged sign-on bonuses on Qantas insurance policies. [1]
- Qantas says a points balance is kept active by earning or using Qantas Points within 18 months. [5]
- From 8 December 2026, ground spend also unlocks up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year, but card bonus points, Top Up Points and Family Transfers are excluded from that count. [5] [7]
What counts as earning Qantas Points on the ground?
Qantas lists credit cards, banking and home loans, everyday shopping, insurance, home utilities, car, hotels and accommodation, and holidays and experiences as the everyday categories alongside flights, and points can be earned with over 500 partners. [1] [3] Which partners are available depends on the account, the member's location and the date, because partner offers are run under each partner's own terms. [1]
The everyday shopping route runs through Everyday Rewards: a member who has chosen to earn Qantas Points can hit “boost” in the Everyday Rewards app before shopping, and Qantas says boosting regularly helps members earn 6 times more Everyday Rewards points to convert into Qantas Points. [1] Qantas also describes “double dipping”, where shopping with Qantas and its partners using a Qantas Points earning credit card earns points from both the card and the partner. [1]
A separate change is coming for status rather than points: Qantas says that from 8 December 2026 members can earn up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year by collecting Qantas Points across ten ground categories, including activity from the Membership Year the member is in on that date. [5] [7] No Status Credits are awarded before the launch. [7]
Which ground partners publish Qantas Points earn rates?
The rates and conditions below are the ones Qantas publishes on its earn page, as of 18 October 2026; the partner's own terms and conditions also apply. [1]
| Partner | Rate Qantas publishes | Conditions stated |
|---|---|---|
| Qantas Hotels | 3 Qantas Points per A$1 spent, unless otherwise specified [1] | Cash purchases and the cash component of Points Plus Pay only; not on cancelled or refunded bookings; no points on extras paid to the property [1] |
| Qantas Wine | 1 Qantas Point per A$1; 3 Qantas Points per A$1 for Qantas Wine Premium members [1] | Member must be 18 or over with an Australian delivery address; allow up to six weeks for points [1] |
| Qantas Money Home Loan | 100,000 Qantas Points on settlement, then 100,000 Qantas Points a year for up to 30 years [1] | Loan must comply with the Points Eligibility Policy, not be in arrears or default, and not be under hardship relief [1] |
| Qantas Health Insurance | Up to 130,000 sign-on Qantas Points over six months [1] | Policies bought between 1 October and 11:59pm AET 30 November 2026 through the Qantas website or call centre; points are paid in stages at 60 and 180 days [1] |
| Qantas Travel Insurance | Up to 15,000 Qantas Points, plus 1 Qantas Point per AU$1 of premium [1] | Primary policyholder only; single-trip points count from departure, annual multi-trip from the policy start date [1] |
| Everyday Rewards | Boosting before shopping helps earn 6 times more Everyday Rewards points to convert [1] | Member must choose to earn Qantas Points and hit “boost” in the app before shopping [1] |
Beyond those headline rates, Qantas names fuel among the everyday spend covered by its ground changes [5], and lists BP Rewards in its car category and Red Energy in its home utilities category. [7] Its banking and home loans category names Qantas Pay and Qantas Money Home Loans, while the retail and lifestyle category names Qantas Shopping, Qantas Marketplace and Qantas Wine. [7] Qantas Hotels bookings made by Points Club members earn 25% more Qantas Points and Points Club Plus members 50% more. [1]
How do credit cards and shopping stack together?
Credit card bonus offers are not Qantas products: they are issued by card partners that hold an Australian Financial Services Licence or Australian Credit Licence, the bonus amounts vary between cards, and minimum spend, retention, credit and eligibility criteria, fees and charges may apply. [1] Bonus points are offered to new cardholders only. [1]
Qantas says members may earn over 200,000 bonus Qantas Points by taking up multiple eligible products and services, giving a Westpac Altitude Qantas Black credit card and a CommBank Digi Home Loan as examples, with points offered under the applicable partner terms. [1] The practical constraint on stacking is account activity: Qantas says keeping a balance active simply means earning or using Qantas Points within 18 months. [5]
What stops Qantas Points from posting?
Each partner attaches conditions, and they differ from one partner to the next. [1]
- Qantas Hotels. Points are not earned on cancelled or refunded bookings, or on additional charges paid to the accommodation provider for extras such as cots, breakfasts and other incidentals at check-in or check-out. [1] Airbnb bookings and Classic Hotel Rewards sit outside the 3 points per A$1 rate, points are credited within 8 weeks of hotel check-out, and they go to the member in whose name the booking is made. [1]
- Qantas Wine. The member must be 18 or over with an Australian delivery address, and points can take up to six weeks to appear. [1]
- Qantas insurance. The health insurance offer is not available to customers who held a Qantas Health Insurance policy at any time in the previous 12 months, or health insurance with nib, AAMI Health Insurance, Apia Health Insurance, GU Health, Suncorp Health Insurance, ING Health Insurance, Real Health Insurance or Seniors Health Insurance at any time in the previous 6 months. [1] Qantas may withdraw or extend both the health and travel insurance offers at any time. [1]
- Points Club. The 25% and 50% hotel earn uplifts depend on holding Points Club or Points Club Plus, which Qantas retires on 8 December 2026; members who attain or retain either tier on or before that date keep their benefits until the end of their next Membership Year. [1] [5]
- Location. Qantas says members who do not live in Australia remain eligible for Status Credits on the ground, but their location may limit some of the ways they can earn Qantas Points. [5] [7]
Qantas publishes a separate exclusion list for Status Credits on the ground, which does not govern whether points post but does stop those points counting towards the 140-Status-Credit cap: credit or charge card rewards points transferred or converted into Qantas Points, bonus points from any Qantas Points earning credit card, points earned through a hotel loyalty programme outside Qantas Frequent Flyer, points earned through the Qantas Wellbeing app, Family Transfers, QBR Points Transfers, Top Up Points, and bonus and milestone rewards including Points Club, Green Tier, Platinum and Platinum One bonuses. [5] [7]
Frequently asked questions
Do Qantas Points expire if I only earn them on the ground?
Qantas says it is easy to keep a points balance active by earning or using Qantas Points within 18 months, in line with the Qantas Frequent Flyer terms. [5] Ground partners such as Qantas Hotels, Qantas Wine or a Qantas Points earning card all add to that activity. [1]
Do credit card bonus points count towards Status Credits on the ground?
No. Qantas excludes bonus points from any Qantas Points earning credit card, and card rewards points that are transferred or converted into Qantas Points, from Status Credits on the ground. [5] [7]
How long do ground-earned Qantas Points take to post?
Qantas Hotels points are credited within 8 weeks of hotel check-out, Qantas Wine points within six weeks, travel insurance points within up to six weeks, and home loan points within 8 weeks of being earned. [1]
Can I earn on ground spend if I live outside Australia?
Qantas says all members are eligible for Status Credits on the ground, but location may limit some of the ways to earn Qantas Points. [5] Qantas Wine, for example, requires an Australian delivery address. [1]
