How do you earn Scandic Friends points on a hotel stay?
To collect on a stay, a member gives their membership number when booking and shows the membership card and ID at check-in. [1] Only one member per checked-in room earns points and a qualifying night, and only one room per point-qualifying night earns for that member. [1]
A point-qualifying night is a night that produces qualification points and carries the membership benefits attached to the stay; a night that is not point-qualifying brings neither. [1] Most nights booked on Scandic's website or app, directly with a Scandic hotel, through Scandic's reservation and customer service, or through selected web-based business travel agencies qualify. [1] The main exceptions are special room rates and non-Scandic services such as Booking.com and Hotels.com, and Scandic reserves the right to decide and amend which nights qualify. [1] Group bookings and reservation blocks paid by monthly invoice follow their own terms for earning points and using benefits. [1]
Qualification points are calculated on the money charged to the member's room folio during a qualifying stay, after discounts and vouchers are deducted and excluding VAT. [1] Eligible spending covers accommodation, food and beverage, the hotel shop, hotel extras, and services and products. [1] That total is multiplied by a factor set by the member's current level. [1]
| Spend | Levels 1–3 | Levels 4–5 | Levels 6–7 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 EUR | 20 points | 25 points | 30 points |
| 1 SEK / NOK / DKK | 2 points | 2.5 points | 3 points |
| 1 PLN | 6 points | 7.5 points | 9 points |
Scandic's own example is a Level 1 member with SEK 1,000 of eligible spending, which comes to 2,000 points. [1] Qualification points drive level progress, and spending them later does not undo that progress, because points already earned still count toward a higher level. [1] Level 2 begins at 5,000 qualification points, Level 3 at 10,000, Level 4 at 25,000, Level 5 at 100,000, Level 6 at 250,000, and Level 7 at 400,000 qualification points or 100 qualifying nights, all within a 12-month member year. [1]
What do dining, the shop and hotel extras earn?
Food and beverage, the hotel shop, internal hotel services and products all earn qualification points when they are charged to the room bill during a qualifying stay. [1] There is a nightly cap of EUR 500, DKK 5,000, NOK 5,000, PLN 2,000 or SEK 5,000 on that spending. [1] A member can also pay for other guests, provided the bill goes to their room. [1] Snacks or drinks added to a reservation booked on Scandic's website earn points as well. [3] Scandic's terms additionally list engagement, and choosing extra points instead of a restaurant voucher, among the ways to earn qualification points. [1]
Scandic Go hotels work differently: a qualifying night still earns qualification points, but food and beverage and the hotel's own products and services earn none, and no other membership benefits apply there. [1]
What do partner purchases and the Scandic Friends MasterCard earn?
Points from the Scandic Friends MasterCard and from selected partners are non-qualification points: they can be spent, but they do not count toward a higher level. [1] [3] Qualification points can also be earned and spent with some partners, depending on each partner's own terms. [1] Partner offers require the member's own membership number, apply only to the member personally and to the room they are staying in, and Scandic is not responsible for agreements made between a member and a partner. [1] If a partnership agreement changes, a member cannot claim compensation for points or benefits. [1] Scandic's member site also advertises earning, using and exchanging points with SAS EuroBonus. [2]
When do Scandic Friends points post, and how long are they valid?
Points may take up to 10 days from check-out to reach the account, and points credited to the wrong account can be removed afterwards. [1] A stay that was missed can be registered retroactively for up to six months after check-out, provided the guest was already a member at the time of the stay. [1]
All points, qualification and non-qualification alike, can be spent for three years from the check-out date and expire on the last day of the month in which they were earned, three years later. [1] Qualification points also count for level purposes only during the ongoing member year, a period of up to 12 months. [1] On a reward night, the portion paid with points earns no qualification points, while any part paid in money does earn again. [1]
Exceptions and limits
- No qualification points are issued if a stay is canceled for reasons beyond the control of Scandic or a Scandic partner. [1]
- Qualification and non-qualification points cannot be combined with or transferred to other member accounts, and may not be sold, inherited or exchanged for payment. [1]
- Scandic can end a membership immediately and without notice in cases of misuse, which forfeits any points; examples given include disrespectful or unreasonable behavior toward Scandic or its partners, criminal acts, and actions that breach the terms. [1]
- For business travel, a member must inform their employer in advance and obtain consent where it is required, and private use of points earned on employer-paid nights may be taxable in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. [1]
- If a stay is booked in a country other than Sweden, local deviations may apply because of mandatory legislation in that country. [1]
Frequently asked questions
Do points from the Scandic Friends MasterCard count toward my level?
No. MasterCard and partner points are non-qualification points, so they can be spent but do not count toward a higher membership level. [1] [3]
Can I claim points for a stay I forgot to register?
Yes, for up to six months after check-out, as long as you were already a Scandic Friends member when you stayed. [1]
Do stays booked through Booking.com or Hotels.com earn points?
Scandic names non-Scandic services such as Booking.com and Hotels.com, and special room rates, as the main exceptions to point-qualifying nights. [1]
How much can I earn on food and drink in one night?
Dining, shop and hotel-service spending charged to the room bill earns points up to EUR 500, DKK 5,000, NOK 5,000, PLN 2,000 or SEK 5,000 per night. [1]
Do Scandic Go stays earn points the same way?
A qualifying night at Scandic Go earns qualification points, but food and beverage and the hotel's own products and services earn none, and the usual stay benefits do not apply. [1]
