How to use Star Alliance paid lounge entry at Singapore Changi Airport

Star Alliance paid lounge entry is the alliance's buy-in route into airport lounges: a traveller can reserve access to a lounge sold through the scheme without holding frequent flyer status or a business class ticket, provided the same-day flight is on a Star Alliance member carrier. [2] [5] Star Alliance lists 26 member airlines serving more than 1,150 airports in 190 countries, and the paid entry scheme is sold for over 1,000 lounges worldwide. [4] [2] [5] This page covers only Star Alliance's paid lounge-entry scheme.

Key takeaways

  • A paid Star Alliance lounge reservation needs no frequent flyer status and no business class seat; the travel requirement sits with the flight, which must be on a Star Alliance member carrier. [2] [5]
  • The reservation admits you to the one lounge named on it, on the stated date and time, and you show it together with a valid same-day boarding pass. [2] [5]
  • One reservation covers a travel party of up to nine people including the booker, and added guests are only admitted when the person named on the reservation is present. [2] [5]
  • Money comes back only in defined circumstances: a cancellation more than 24 hours ahead combined with a flight cancellation or a delay of more than four hours. [2] [5]

Who can buy Star Alliance lounge access?

Entry is sold through the alliance's reservation website for more than 1,000 lounges worldwide. [2] [5] Neither status nor cabin is required: the alliance's own guidance says a traveller holding a paid reservation needs no frequent flyer status and no business class of travel to be admitted. [2] [5]

What the scheme does test is the flight. A paid reservation is valid for a passenger travelling on a Star Alliance member carrier flight [2] [5], and as of 18 October 2026 the alliance lists 26 member airlines reaching more than 1,150 airports in 190 countries. [4] The person booking must be at least 18 years old, and identification may be requested at the lounge entrance. [2] [5] A reservation can also be made for somebody else, provided the name on it matches the name on that person's boarding pass. [2] [5]

A paid reservation requires travel on a Star Alliance member carrier flight. [2] [5] Other lounge-access routes are covered on the SilverKris lounge page, the KrisFlyer Gold lounge page and the KrisFlyer status guide.

What does a paid lounge reservation include?

A reservation buys entry to a single named lounge for one travel party, on one date and time. [2] [5] The conditions attached to it are set out below.

Conditions of a Star Alliance paid lounge reservation
ConditionWhat applies
Frequent flyer statusNot required [2] [5]
CabinBusiness class not required [2] [5]
FlightMust be a Star Alliance member carrier flight on the same day [2] [5]
Lounge choiceOnly the lounge named on the reservation [2] [5]
Party sizeUp to nine people including the person booking [2] [5]
Age to bookAt least 18 [2] [5]
Length of stayThree hours maximum unless the access document or the lounge states otherwise [2] [5]
At the doorReservation plus a valid same-day boarding pass; identification may be requested [2] [5]

Guests appended to a reservation are admitted only in the presence of the person under whose name the reservation was made. [2] [5] The party limit is nine people including the booker, while the alliance's guest guidance describes buying access for a maximum of nine additional guests under one reservation. [2] [5] Access bought at the lounge counter follows the same reservation process and allows entry straight away. [2] [5]

Can a paid lounge reservation be refunded?

Refunds depend on two things together: when the reservation was cancelled relative to the estimated entry time, and whether the flight was cancelled or delayed by more than four hours. [2] [5] A reservation cancelled more than 24 hours before the estimated time of entry is fully refunded where the flight was cancelled or delayed by more than four hours. [2] [5] Where access was purchased less than 24 hours before entry and the flight is cancelled or delayed by more than four hours, the alliance describes a partial refund that excludes a service fee of 5% of the total transaction. [2] [5] If no cancellation is made, or the flight is not cancelled or delayed by more than four hours, nothing is refunded. [2] [5] Cancellation is handled through the "Manage my Reservation" link in the confirmation email. [2] [5]

Exceptions and limits

  • One lounge, one date. A reservation is valid only for the lounge, date and time you booked, so it will not open the door of another lounge in the same terminal or a different terminal. [2] [5]
  • No date or time changes. The name, email, flight number and comments on a reservation can be edited, but the date and time cannot; changing them means cancelling and booking again. [2] [5]
  • Lounge house rules still apply. Buying access guarantees entry, but each lounge keeps its own terms on dress code and conduct, and identification can be requested at any time. [2] [5]
  • Children are handled lounge by lounge. Child policy is set by each lounge provider: some lounges admit children free, others expect access to be bought for every child entering. [2] [5]
  • Purchase windows can close. Some lounges restrict the dates and times at which access can be bought, in which case a different slot has to be chosen. [2] [5]
  • Guests cannot arrive alone. Anyone added to a reservation is turned away unless the named traveller is with them. [2] [5]

Frequently asked questions

Do you need elite status or a business class ticket to buy lounge access?

No. A paid reservation carries no frequent flyer status or cabin requirement, so the ticket can be in economy. [2] [5]

Can you buy lounge access for family or friends travelling with you?

Yes. One reservation can cover up to nine people including the booker. Only the name of the person who will present the access at the lounge, matching their boarding pass, is required; guests added to the reservation are admitted only in that person's presence. [2] [5]

If you reserve on behalf of somebody else rather than for your own travel party, the alliance asks that the full name on the reservation corresponds to the name on that person's boarding pass. [2] [5]

How long can you stay in the lounge on a paid reservation?

Three hours unless the access document or the lounge sets a different limit. [2] [5]

What happens if your flight is cancelled after you book lounge access?

Cancel more than 24 hours before the estimated entry time and the reservation is fully refunded where the flight was cancelled or delayed by more than four hours. [2] [5]

Can you change the date and time of a lounge reservation?

No; only names, email, flight number and comments can be edited, so a different slot means cancelling and rebooking. [2] [5]
