GUIDE
Start here: Atmos Rewards
Atmos Rewards is the combined airline loyalty programme of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, formed by merging Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles into a single platform that reaches more than 1,000 destinations with oneworld and other partner airlines. [6] [5] Alaska says Atmos Rewards points do not expire. [6]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Atmos Rewards replaced Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles, and one mile in either old programme became one Atmos Rewards point. [6]
- From 1 October 2026 members choose how they earn on flights departing on or after 1 January 2027: distance flown, price paid or segments flown. [5] [3]
- Choosing is optional, and a choice can be changed once per calendar year for future travel only. [3]
- Award travel starts at 4,500 points one-way, and Alaska says points do not expire. [6]
What is Atmos Rewards, and how do you join?
Step 1: the programme. Alaska Airlines launched Atmos Rewards as a combined programme built out of Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles. [6] It spans more than 1,000 destinations through Alaska, Hawaiian and more than 30 global airline partners, including the oneworld alliance. [6] The programme says members can earn and redeem points with oneworld airlines and its additional global partners, which together serve over 1,100 destinations. [5]
Step 2: joining. Mileage Plan members became Atmos Rewards members automatically and kept their account numbers, with nothing to do. [6] HawaiianMiles members and their miles moved across on 1 October, and those who had not linked a HawaiianMiles account to a Mileage Plan account received a new account number. [6] Miles were renamed points and elite-qualifying miles became status points. [6] Alaska Airlines Visa cards were rebranded as Atmos Rewards Visa cards with the same account numbers and benefits. [6] Members joining on or after 1 January 2027 earn on price paid unless they select another method. [3] Alaska points readers to atmosrewards.com for programme details. [5]
How do you earn points on flights?
From 1 October 2026, Atmos Rewards members can choose one of three methods for earning points and status points on flights departing on or after 1 January 2027. [3] [5]
| Method | Points earned | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Distance travelled | 1 point per mile flown | Default for current members who do not choose [3] |
| Price paid | 5 points per $1 spent | Excludes taxes and fees; default for members joining on or after 1 January 2027 [3] |
| Segments flown | 500 points per segment | Flat rate for each segment flown [3] |
Choosing is optional, and members who make no choice keep earning on distance travelled. [3] Members can change their choice once per calendar year, and no change applies to travel already completed. [3] The choice covers all Alaska, Hawaiian and partner flights, while credit card and partner earning stays as it was. [3] On partner flights booked directly with Alaska or Hawaiian, members earn 100% of the points for the miles flown, and on Business Class fares they earn 250% of the distance flown with all partners. [4]
Step 3: earning on the ground. Dining through Atmos Rewards Dining earns up to five points per $1 on the whole bill, including food, drinks, taxes and tips. [4] Stays by Alaska Vacations and Alaska Hawaiian Cruises earn one point per dollar spent, and Atmos Rewards Shopping covers 1,100-plus retailers. [4] The Summit Visa Infinite card earns 1 status point on purchases and has an annual fee. [5] [6]
How do you use points and book a first award?
Step 4: spending points. Points can be redeemed for award travel to more than 1,000 destinations on Alaska, Hawaiian and 30-plus global airline partners, including oneworld, and redemptions start at 4,500 points one-way. [6] Points also buy tickets to events and travel experiences through Atmos Rewards Unlocked, and can be earned or redeemed across nearly a million hotels and vacation rentals available through Book stays. [6] Status points can be earned when booking award travel as well. [6]
Step 5: planning the first award. Award bookings begin by selecting "use points" when searching for a flight on alaskaair.com or hawaiianairlines.com, after which award results appear in the search results to choose from. [4] Because award pricing and any limited-time discounts surface at search, it is worth comparing dates before committing. [4]
How does status work in Atmos Rewards?
Step 6: status points. Status points track progress towards status and milestones, and are earned on flights with Alaska and partners, through the Atmos Rewards Visa and Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard credit cards, with non-airline partners, and when booking award travel. [6] Each milestone unlocks a choice of perks, starting at 10,000 status points. [6]
Tiers named in the programme's own announcements include Platinum and Titanium: from 2 November 2026, Platinum and Titanium members can bring eligible children and one companion into Premium Class on a complimentary basis when space is available. [5] Titanium members get a dedicated check-in facility in Seattle and a Titanium-exclusive offer of global upgrades to Alaska's premium cabins. [5] Alaska said Titanium members would also receive complimentary day-of-departure upgrades into global Business Class for themselves and a companion, without points or a certificate. [6] Separately, members can join one of six Atmos Communities from 1 October 2026, which the programme says carry benefits such as free bags, bonus status points on international travel and 20% off select Unlocked experiences. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- The earning choice affects flights only: it changes how points and status points are earned on Alaska, Hawaiian and partner flights, and credit card and partner earning is unchanged. [3]
- The price-based rate of five points per $1 excludes taxes and fees. [3]
- Limited-time offers carry their own dates: the October 2026 Global Getaways award deals required booking by 10 October 2026 for travel between 15 January and 8 March 2027. [4]
- Some products are planned rather than available: the Atmos Rewards debit card is planned for early 2027 with pre-registration open, and Alaska plans to let holders of eligible Bank of America card products transfer points into Atmos Rewards during 2027. [5]
- Cabin benefits depend on eligibility and space: the Premium Class benefit for Platinum and Titanium members covers eligible children and one companion when space is available. [5]
- Atmos Rewards sets the operative rules for its programme, so check the current terms at atmosrewards.com before relying on any figure on this page. [5]
