COURSE
Start here: Virgin Australia Business Flyer — eligibility, account roles, earning Points, Tier Levels and using Points
Virgin Australia Business Flyer is a business program that Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd operates and provides, and a business that joins it automatically qualifies for the Velocity Business Program operated by Velocity Frequent Flyer Pty Ltd [1]. This six-step course takes a newcomer through who can join, the account roles behind a membership, earning Points, Tier Levels, spending Points and one first concrete action [1].
Facts checked: 19 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Two programs are linked: Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd runs VA Business Flyer, and joining it automatically qualifies the business for the Velocity Business Program run by Velocity Frequent Flyer Pty Ltd, which is separate from the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program for individuals [1].
- Membership is only open to businesses with a valid ABN, an Australian business address, no existing VA Business Flyer account and Domestic Flown Air Travel Expenditure of up to AUD $500,000 per annum, and a business holds one Membership with one Key Contact and at least one Account Administrator [1].
What you will be able to do after this course
- Decide whether a business is eligible to apply, and say which businesses are excluded.
- Name the account roles the terms require and explain what each one is for.
- Trace how a booking turns into Points, including the exclusions, the annual cap and the claim windows.
Step 1: What Virgin Australia Business Flyer is and who it suits
You will learn: which two programs a membership connects, how the rules can change, and the kind of business the program is built for.
When a business joins, the terms become a contract between the Member and Virgin Australia, and the Member automatically qualifies for the Velocity Business Program, whose Program Benefits are provided by Velocity Frequent Flyer Pty Ltd ABN 60 601 408 824 under Schedule 2 [1]. The Velocity Business Program is a separate program to the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program offered to individual members [1].
Both companies can change the rules, and neither Virgin Australia nor Velocity Frequent Flyer guarantees that particular features or Benefits will continue [1]. A significant change, such as a significant change to the Benefits, comes with at least 30 days' notice through the email address recorded in the account and on the website, and the Velocity Business Program Terms set the same 30-day standard for significant changes [1].
A printed date to watch. The page carries the line "Effective date - 24 September 2026", and the change notice lists the changes applicable as at 24 September 2026 [1]. Schedule 2 also states that its terms are "effective as at the date outlined above" and, a few lines later, "effective as at 15 November 2023" [1]. Both dates stand on the same page, which does not reconcile them.
Who it suits. This is a program for businesses rather than individuals: the applicant must itself be an eligible business, and someone re-selling air travel cannot join except as an Eligible TMC [1].

Step 2: Eligibility, joining and account roles
You will learn: who is allowed to apply, which roles the terms require, and what keeps a membership valid.
A business applies through the website or another application or enrollment channel approved by Virgin Australia and provides all requested information [1]. Virgin Australia reserves the right to accept or reject any membership application [1]. Membership is only to businesses that:
- hold a valid ABN [1];
- have an Australian business address [1];
- do not already have a VA Business Flyer account [1]; and
- have Domestic Flown Air Travel Expenditure of up to AUD $500,000 per annum [1].
Travel agents, travel management companies, travel wholesalers, air travel consolidators and persons re-selling air travel are not eligible to join, except for an Eligible TMC [1]. A Member must nominate, and keep for the duration of the membership, one Key Contact, must nominate at least one Account Administrator aged 18 or older who has authority to bind the business, and can hold only one Membership [1]. Benefit Users means the Key Contact, Account Administrators, Travel Bookers, Travelers, Guest Travelers and any other individual directly employed or contracted by the Member who has been validly nominated, and for an Eligible TMC it does not include a customer or client or an individual traveling for that customer or client [1].
Members receive access to the Booking Portal with login credentials and may provide or create credentials for Benefit Users, and the Member is responsible for keeping all login credentials confidential and safe [1].
Step 3: Booking and earning Points
You will learn: how bookings are made and the conditions under which Points are credited.
A Member must include the relevant ABN for all Bookings and, before or at the time of booking, give Travelers and, if applicable, the TMC a copy of or link to the Conditions of Carriage [1]. At least 30 days' prior written notice is required before changing the TMC [1].
Points are earned on eligible Virgin Australia flights and eligible airline partner flights traveled from the join date, or up to 30 days before it if a retrospective earn claim is submitted, and on eligible transactions with non-airline partners only from the join date [1]. A Member can earn up to 1,000,000 Points from Virgin Australia flights only, per annum, based on the rolling 12-month period from the date of joining, and no Points are earned on certain fees, taxes or charges [1].
Points follow the fare class originally purchased, even when the traveler flies on an upgraded fare, unless the full fare difference for the upgrade was paid [1]. No Points are earned for a flight that is not flown or that is refunded, on Reward Seat tickets including reward tickets issued by airline partners, on complimentary tickets, on tickets purchased as part of a packaged holiday, or on tickets subject to conditions that exclude Points earn, and on some airline partner flights no Points are earned at all because of the commercial arrangements with the partner [1].
An inquiry about an Eligible Transaction, or a retrospective earn claim, must go to the non-airline partner no later than 3 months from the date of the Points activity, and for Virgin Australia and airline partner transactions must go through the missing points claim tool on the rewards portal no later than 6 months from that date [1]. One cross-reference in the earning clause does not match the notice rules: it says changes to earning rates "will be notified to you in accordance with clause 1.7", while the notice rules sit in clause 1.6 ("When we'll give you notice of changes") [1].
Step 4: Tier Levels
You will learn: how a Tier Level is calculated, when it can change, and which fares count.
The Velocity Business Program has multiple Tier Levels, and a Member's Tier Level determines the types of Program Benefits it can access, with some Program Benefits available only at a specific Tier Level [1]. A Member can be in only one Tier Level at a time, and on joining it is assigned Tier Level 1 [1]. The Tier Level is calculated on the amount spent in the rolling 12-month period based on the joining date, and at the end of each 12-month period the flight revenue based on Eligible Flights resets to $nil while the Tier Level achieved at that date is kept [1]. The Tier Level is assessed daily against Eligible Flights balances to decide whether a Member is eligible to upgrade, an upgrade follows automatically where the criteria are met, and Velocity Frequent Flyer may otherwise upgrade, downgrade or maintain a Tier Level in accordance with the terms [1].
Eligible Flights cover the fare types Business, Economy - Flex, Economy - Choice and Economy - Lite, while Groups/Charter and Redemption fares (Reward Seats) are not eligible [1]. The earning rates that apply by Tier Level and the Program Benefits are published on the program website and incorporated into the terms, and the terms do not state the rates or the spend needed for each Tier Level, so those figures have to be read on virginaustralia.com/businessflyer [1].
Step 5: Using Points, expiry and ending membership
You will learn: the two ways to use Points, when they expire, and how a membership ends.
Account Administrators can transfer Points to Velocity Frequent Flyer Program points provided that at least 100 Points are transferred per transfer and Points are only transferred to an individual directly employed or contracted by the Member [1]. Points do not have a cash value and cannot be converted to cash, and they are not property or currency [1].
Members can also redeem Points to pay, in part or in full, for any available Any Seat offered for sale by Virgin Australia in the Booking Portal [1]. A booking needs a minimum of 100 Points, and the balance above that minimum can be paid by debit or credit card; a member can pay with Points and cash or with Points only, and where Points cover the base fare, taxes, fees and charges the total number of Points required is shown at booking [1]. Any Seat bookings paid with Points must be made online at least 1 hour before departure for Virgin Australia domestic and international short-haul flights and at least 24 hours before departure for airline partners [1].
Points expire 24 months after the date the Member last earned or redeemed Points [1]. A second clause words a different rule for one situation: if a Member exceeds AUD $500,000 in annual Domestic Flown Air Travel Expenditure, Virgin Australia may cancel the membership and, where appropriate, offer to transfer the Member to a Virgin Australia corporate account on written notice, enrollment in the Velocity Business Program also terminates, and all Points accrued above the limit and all unused Points remain in the account and "expire after 24 months from the date of accrual" [1]. Both expiry wordings are printed on the same page and are reported as printed.
Membership can be ended at any time by email notice, unused Benefits such as Points earned and not redeemed or transferred are discussed before the account closes, and ending the VA Business Flyer membership also ends the Velocity Business Program membership [1]. Only the Key Contact of the Member can end a Velocity Business Program membership, Velocity Frequent Flyer may request reasonable evidence confirming that the person contacting it is the Key Contact, and ending that membership also terminates the VA Business Flyer Program membership [1].

Step 6: Your first concrete action
You will learn: the five things to do first, in the order the terms imply.
- Check the eligibility list before applying — a valid ABN, an Australian business address, no existing VA Business Flyer account and Domestic Flown Air Travel Expenditure of up to AUD $500,000 per annum — knowing that Virgin Australia may accept or reject the application [1].
- Name one Key Contact and at least one Account Administrator aged 18 or older with authority to bind the business, then keep every Booking Portal credential confidential and safe [1].
- Put the ABN in all Bookings and give Travelers and the TMC a copy of or link to the Conditions of Carriage before or at the time of booking, and give at least 30 days' written notice before changing the TMC [1].
- Add the membership number to bookings, submit a retrospective earn claim if flights up to 30 days before the join date should count, and raise missing Points within 3 months with a non-airline partner or within 6 months through the missing points claim tool [1].
- Decide who will receive transferred Points — at least 100 Points per transfer, only to an individual directly employed or contracted by the Member — and keep the 24-month expiry window in view [1].
