How to transfer TAP Miles&Go miles

How the transfer works

Log in to your TAP Miles&Go account and open the Miles Store in the Customer Area. [1] In the Transfer miles tab, choose an amount between 2,000 and 20,000 miles, enter your details and the recipient’s Customer Number (TP), then pay to complete the transaction. [1]

The transfer is account-to-account: TAP says it is only possible between TAP Miles&Go accounts, and the miles are credited to the account you indicate. [1] The customer sending the miles bears the costs associated with the transaction. [1]

Payment is made by credit card, using cards available in the market where the transaction is carried out. [1] TAP says some markets may apply an international processing fee. [1]

Blocks, cap and fee

The transfer is built in blocks of 2,000 Bonus Miles. [1] The minimum you can transfer is 2,000 miles, and the maximum transfer limit is 20,000 miles per annual earning period of Status Miles. [1] TAP also says the frequency of transactions is limited and varies by transaction type. [1]

A fee applies, and the customer must pay it by credit card. [1] Miles Store transactions are not reversible and payments are not refundable. [1] Once miles have been transferred, both the miles and the associated fee are non-refundable. [1]

TAP Miles&Go miles cannot be exchanged for cash. [1]

What the recipient gets

All transferred miles are considered Bonus Miles. [1] They are valid for one additional annual earning period of Status Miles, which TAP describes as at least another twelve months. [1] Transferred Bonus Miles cannot be refunded. [1]

This is different from TAP’s Miles&Go Gift. [2] Gift offers come in fixed amounts of 3,000, 7,500, 10,000 and 15,000 miles, are purchased in US dollars, and can only be credited to a third-party account, not the buyer’s own account. [2] A maximum of four Miles&Go Gifts may be credited to the same account per Annual Qualification Period, and gift miles are Bonus Miles that cannot be used for status upgrade purposes. [2]

Exceptions and limits

• Recipient must be a member. A transfer is only allowed between TAP Miles&Go customers, so the person receiving the miles needs a TAP Miles&Go account and Customer Number (TP). [1]
• Yearly cap. The 20,000-mile limit is stated per annual earning period of Status Miles, and the minimum transfer is 2,000 miles. [1]
• No reversal. TAP states that Miles Store transactions are not reversible and that transferred miles and the fee are non-refundable. [1]
• Market-dependent payment. Cards accepted are those available where the transaction is made, and some markets may add an international processing fee. [1]
• Gift cap is separate. Miles&Go Gift is limited to four gifts credited to the same account per Annual Qualification Period and is bought in fixed bundles rather than chosen in 2,000-mile blocks. [2]

Questions

Can I transfer miles to a friend or family member?

Only if that person is a TAP Miles&Go customer, because transfers are limited to TAP Miles&Go accounts. [1] You need their Customer Number (TP) to send the miles. [1]

What is the smallest transfer I can make?

The minimum is 2,000 miles, and transfers are made in blocks of 2,000 Bonus Miles. [1]

How long do transferred miles last?

Can I cancel a transfer after paying?
