FREQUENT FLYER GLOSSARY

What is a cruise loyalty member fare?

A cruise loyalty member fare is a cruise price, booking offer or onboard benefit that a line reserves for its past guests or loyalty programme members, with eligibility, availability and combining rules set by that programme rather than by the open market. The label covers several different things — a members-only promotion, a past-guest offer that appears only after sign-in, or a member benefit attached to a booking — and each line writes its own conditions. Key takeaways

  • A member fare is not one product. Norwegian Cruise Line shows past-guest offers only to a signed-in My NCL account with a Latitudes number attached, while Celebrity Cruises lists members-only promotions, exclusive voyages and special events among its Captain's Club offers. [6] [5]
  • Coverage depends on the sailing and the cabin booked: Norwegian's tier benefits apply on sailings of five nights or longer, while its onboard discounts apply to every sailing regardless of length. [6]
  • Some member discounts cannot be stacked: Norwegian's duty-free shop discount cannot be combined with another additional discount or coupon. [6]

Who qualifies for a cruise loyalty member fare?

Eligibility normally runs off a loyalty account rather than a separate voucher. Norwegian Cruise Line enrols guests automatically in Latitudes Rewards after their first cruise, and membership then opens member-only experiences and discounts. [6] The line's past-guest offers sit behind the account: a guest must be logged in to a My NCL account with a Latitudes number attached to view them. [6]

Celebrity Cruises' Captain's Club is free to join; the programme says members enrol online, add the Captain's Club number to a booking, and benefits begin on the next vacation. [5] Its benefits page groups members-only promotions, exclusive voyages and special events under member offers. [5]

On Royal Caribbean International, Crown & Anchor Society membership is what unlocks the group's cross-brand mechanics: members aged 18 and older can use Points Choice to apply points earned on a sailing to Crown & Anchor, Captain's Club or Silversea Cruises' Venetian Society, but they must already be enrolled in the programme that will receive the points. [4]

Which sailings and cabin grades does a member offer cover?

The same account can carry offers with different footprints. Norwegian Cruise Line states that tier benefits are available on sailings of five nights or longer, while onboard discounts, including the pre-booking of shore excursions, are available on all sailings regardless of sail length. [6]

Cabin rules attach to specific offers. The extra Latitudes point advertised for a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer does not include Suites or The Haven, and the Insider Offer applies to selected cruises only. [6] The separate extra point for booking a suite applies to full-fare Suites booked when the reservation was originally made, and it excludes Club Balcony Suites. [6]

On Celebrity Cruises, one-category stateroom upgrades at booking are a Captain's Club benefit granted based on availability. [5] The line notes that its benefits are designed for Celebrity sailings, and that Galapagos and river cruises can carry their own inclusions, so what a member receives can vary by itinerary. [5]

Royal Caribbean's Loyalty Status Match runs one-for-one across Crown & Anchor, Captain's Club and the Venetian Society, and the line asks members to allow up to seven days for the matched status to take effect. [4]

Can a member offer be combined with other promotions?

Norwegian Cruise Line sets explicit stacking limits on two member discounts: the duty-free shop discount on Norwegian logo merchandise cannot be combined with another additional discount or coupon, and the discount on one Spa Signature Treatment is not combinable with any other onboard discounts or promotions. [6]

Cross-brand use has its own exclusions. Norwegian says three benefits — the one-time Diamond cabin upgrade, the Ambassador gift and the complimentary seven-day cruise — are excluded from its Loyalty Status Honoring Programme, which otherwise carries status across Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises. [6]

Royal Caribbean states that benefit exclusions apply to its Loyalty Status Match. [4] Celebrity Cruises describes Captain's Club perks as varying by tier, with onboard events, exclusive offers, priority services and savings among the possibilities. [5]

Exceptions and limits

  • The tier decides the terms. Norwegian's tiers run from Bronze at 1 point to Ambassador at 700 points, and its benefit list is set out tier by tier. [6] Celebrity's run from Classic at 2–149 Club Points to Zenith at 3,000 or more. [5]
  • Timing on Royal Caribbean. A Points Choice request can be submitted any time before the sailing on which the points will be earned and up to 14 days after disembarkation, and the sailing must depart on or after 30 January 2026; the request form is reached through the Royal Caribbean app or website. [4]
  • Missing credit is time-limited. Norwegian credits missing Latitudes Rewards points only for cruises taken within the previous 12 months. [6]
  • Booking choices change what a member earns. Celebrity awards double points to a solo traveller who books a stateroom and pays the full fare, and one extra night of points to a member who opts into reduced housekeeping. [5]

Frequently asked questions

Does a member fare apply to every sailing?

Not necessarily. Norwegian Cruise Line limits tier benefits to sailings of five nights or longer, although onboard discounts apply on all sailings regardless of length. [6] Celebrity Cruises says benefits may vary on Galapagos and river cruises. [5]

Do I have to be a past guest to see member offers?

For Norwegian Cruise Line past-guest offers, yes: the offers are visible only inside a signed-in My NCL account with a Latitudes number attached. [6] Celebrity's Captain's Club can be joined before sailing, and the line says benefits begin on the next vacation. [5]

Do cruise loyalty points expire?

Royal Caribbean says Crown & Anchor points never expire, and Celebrity says earned Captain's Club points do not expire once they are in the account. [4] [5]

Can one line's loyalty status be used on another line?

Within Royal Caribbean Group, Crown & Anchor, Captain's Club and the Venetian Society offer one-for-one tier matching. [4] [5] Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings honours Latitudes Rewards status on Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises. [6]

Can a member discount be stacked with another coupon?

Sometimes it cannot. Norwegian's duty-free discount on logo merchandise cannot be combined with another additional discount or coupon. [6]
