PROGRAMME PROFILE

Emirates NBD Plus Points

This profile covers Emirates NBD Plus Points. Whether Plus Points convert into Skywards Miles at all is not stated in those sources; they publish no earning rate, fee, expiry term or other Plus Points terms. [1] [2] [3]

Key takeaways

  • This profile covers Emirates NBD Plus Points.
  • Emirates' programme rules treat partner earning as one route to Skywards Miles, and define a Partner as a third party that may be a financial service provider. [1]
  • Emirates' partner directory names several bank partners and gives conversion figures for some of them (Brex, Capital One, Ramp and Revolut state a ratio; American Express, Citi ThankYou Rewards and HSBC US are shown as converting without a published ratio); Emirates NBD is not among the banks named on the page checked. [2]
  • If Miles are credited to a Skywards account, Emirates' own rules govern audits, statement disputes, misuse and forfeiture. [1]

The airline rules govern a Skywards account that receives Miles. [1]

Where partner earning meets Skywards

Skywards rules define Skywards Miles as the points a member accrues under the programme, earned by taking a Qualifying Flight or by purchasing qualifying goods and services from any Partner and redeemable for Rewards; Tier Miles are defined separately as the points used for membership tier qualification. [1] A Partner is a third-party provider of goods or services taking part in Skywards, and the definition expressly includes financial, leisure and lifestyle service providers alongside airlines, hotels and resorts, and car hire companies. [1] That definition includes financial service providers among possible Partners, but the rules set no card-specific earning rate and do not mention Plus Points. [1]

The partner directory's bank entries do not all publish a ratio. American Express, Citi ThankYou Rewards and HSBC US are each shown as converting points into Miles without a stated ratio. Brex states 1.5 Brex rewards points into 1 Skywards Mile; Capital One states 1,000 Capital One miles to 750 Skywards Miles; Ramp and Revolut each state 2 points into 1 Skywards Mile. [2] The Emirates Skywards Mastercard entry shows a bonus offer, 'Up to 50,000 bonus Skywards Miles', rather than a conversion ratio. [2] The directory checked publishes no Plus Points rate, and Emirates NBD is not among the banks named there. [2]

That absence is worth reading carefully. A rate published for one bank partner describes that partner's arrangement and says nothing about Plus Points, and a generic statement that partners may include financial service providers does not establish a link between Plus Points and Skywards. [1] [2]

Rules that follow the Miles

Skywards membership is open to individuals aged at least two, and a corporation, firm, partnership or other entity is not eligible to become a member. [1] Every account must be registered against a unique email address, and accounts that share an email address or fail verification may be suspended, restricting access to the Miles and benefits in them. [1] A member quotes the membership number, or presents the digital membership card, when travelling on Qualifying Flights and when paying for other qualifying goods or services. [1] On the flying side, the membership number cannot be amended once a member has checked in or completed travel. [3] Members flying on the joint Emirates–Qantas network keep their tier privileges, and booking on flights with an Emirates code keeps Tier Miles collecting. [3]

Emirates makes activity statements available through its website and app, showing Miles accrued, redeemed and expired, and a member who believes a statement is inaccurate must notify Emirates no later than 90 calendar days after the date of the relevant activity; after that the statement is treated as correct. [1] Emirates may audit an account for any reason, and during an audit the account, and any linked My Family account, cannot be used to redeem Miles; if the member does not answer the audit notification within 90 calendar days, or Emirates finds an issue such as fraudulent activity, the account may be terminated and unused Miles voided. [1]

Tier progress runs on different units. Silver needs 25,000 Tier Miles or 25 Qualifying Flights, Gold needs 50,000 Tier Miles or 50 Qualifying Flights, and Platinum needs 150,000 Tier Miles plus at least one Business or First Class Qualifying Flight, with surplus Tier Miles or flights not carried forward. [1]

Limits and exceptions

  • Expiry.
  • Misuse and closure. Selling, transferring or acquiring Miles or Rewards other than as the rules allow is treated as misuse, and Emirates may terminate the account and forfeit unused Miles. [1] A member who deletes their own account forfeits unused Miles and unutilised Rewards immediately, and deletion cannot be reversed. [1] Emirates may also suspend, delete or terminate an account and void the Miles in it at its discretion. [1]
  • Death or bankruptcy. The member's account terminates immediately. In the event of death, Emirates may credit unused Miles to legal beneficiaries where the account, or the linked My Family account, held at least 2,000 Miles at termination and the beneficiary claims within six months with the required documents. [1]
  • Young members. Members under 18 cannot carry out certain transactions on the website or app, including buying or transferring Skywards Miles and redeeming Rewards. [1]
  • Changing terms. The rules are the terms in force from time to time, and the tier requirements may be changed at any time without notice, communicated through the rules, the website or the app. [1]
