Finnair Lounge and Platinum Wing: Finnair Plus access

Finnair Lounge and Finnair Platinum Wing are two separately named lounge benefits in Finnair's published Finnair Plus tier-benefits page, which also names a third, the Finnair Platinum Corner. [3] In the list of key benefits, the Finnair Lounge is attached to Gold and, as a discount, to Silver, while the Platinum Wing and the Platinum Corner are attached to Platinum, and Platinum Lumo is described as receiving free Finnair Lounge access for up to four guests. [3]

Key takeaways

  • In the key-benefits list, the Finnair Lounge appears for Gold and, as a discount, for Silver; the Platinum Wing and Platinum Corner appear for Platinum; and Finnair Lounge access for up to four guests appears for Platinum Lumo. [3]
  • Silver is described as receiving a discount on Finnair Lounge access, while free Finnair Lounge access is listed for Gold; Basic's entry in the same list contains no lounge item. [3]
  • The page names the Platinum Wing but publishes no description of facilities, location or opening hours for it. [3]
  • The membership tiers page does not publish cabin-based access rules for the Finnair Lounge or Platinum Wing, or guest rules for the Platinum Wing. [3]

The lounge products

In the list of key benefits, free Finnair Lounge access appears as a Gold benefit, and a discount on Finnair Lounge access appears as a Silver benefit. [3] Finnair Lounge access for up to four guests appears in the same list as a Platinum Lumo benefit. [3]

The Platinum Wing is listed as part of the Platinum benefit bundle, together with the Finnair Platinum Corner, free sports equipment and 12 one-way upgrade benefits. [3] The page names the Wing and the Corner but does not say what is inside either one, where in the airport they sit, or when they open. [3] Finnair's site navigation includes links headed Finnair Lounges at Helsinki Airport and Lounges around the world [2], while the tier page itself gives no airport for any of the three named spaces. [3]

Access by Finnair Plus tier

Silver is described as including a discount on Finnair Lounge access. [3] Gold is described as including free Finnair Lounge access. [3] Platinum is described as including free access to Finnair Platinum Wing and Finnair Platinum Corner. [3] Platinum Lumo is described as including free Finnair Lounge access for up to four guests. [3] Basic's entry in the same list covers Avios and tier points, member offers and rewards, with no lounge item. [3]

Finnair introduces that list as some of the key benefits at each tier, not as a complete schedule of benefits [3], and in that key-benefits list guest numbers appear only in the Platinum Lumo wording. [3] The airport benefits table on the same page shows €30 or 4,800 Avios in the Finnair Lounge row, and guest allowances of "+ 1 guest", "+ 1 guest" and "+ 4 guests" across the Gold, Platinum and Platinum Lumo columns. [3] The extracted table does not spell out how paid guest entry is handled. [3]

Reaching the tiers

Tier points are what move a Finnair Plus member between the tiers described above. [3] Finnair publishes these thresholds: Silver at 15,000 tier points, Gold at 45,000, Platinum at 80,000, and Platinum Lumo at 300,000, of which 250,000 must be collected from Finnair. [2] [3] A tracking period lasts 12 months, after which tier points reset to zero and a new period begins, and a member who reaches a new tier keeps it for the rest of the previous tracking period plus the next 12 months. [3]

Tier points can be collected from flights with Finnair and oneworld partner airlines, from Finnair travel extras such as seats and baggage, and from purchases made with the Finnair Visa credit card, which the page says is available only in Finland. [4] Finnair also sets milestone rewards within each tier, and the Silver milestone at 20,000 tier points is listed as 2 Lounge Passes. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Which flights the tier wording covers. Finnair says these tier benefits apply on Finnair flights, meaning an AY code on the ticket and a flight operated by Finnair or Norra. [3]
  • Other carriers. When a member flies with a oneworld airline, or on a Finnair flight where the marketing carrier on the ticket is not AY, Finnair says the oneworld benefits apply instead of Finnair Plus benefits. [3]
  • Cabin. The membership tiers page does not publish a cabin rule for the Finnair Lounge or Platinum Wing, so whether a Business Class or Premium Economy ticket includes access is not stated there. [3]
  • Status held elsewhere. The membership tiers page does not state whether status earned with another oneworld airline is enough for the Finnair Lounge or Platinum Wing, or which oneworld tier would qualify. [3]
  • Paid entry. The airport benefits table gives €30 or 4,800 Avios in the Finnair Lounge row [3], and the page does not state whether the Platinum Wing can be entered on the same paid basis. [3]
  • Guests and access detail. In the list of key benefits, only the Platinum Lumo entry mentions guests (Finnair Lounge access for up to four guests). [3] The airport benefits table on the same page also shows guest allowances in the Finnair Lounge row ("+ 1 guest", "+ 1 guest", "+ 4 guests") across the Gold, Platinum and Platinum Lumo columns, though the extracted table does not spell out handling of paid guest entry.
