PROGRAMME PROFILE

SWISS lounges

SWISS lounges are the airport lounges reached through a SWISS departure, and SWISS appears in Star Alliance's airline list with Miles & More named as its frequent flyer programme. [6] At a departure airport, lounge access is decided either by the cabin on the ticket or by frequent flyer status, and the alliance's rules require the traveller to be departing on a flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline. [6]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Lounge entry at a departure airport follows either the cabin on the ticket or frequent flyer status, and the flight must be operated by a Star Alliance member airline. [6]
  • Star Alliance Gold customers are admitted in any class of travel on a Star Alliance flight, while Silver customers are not admitted. [6]
  • SWISS First Lounges are named only in the Miles & More HON Circle benefits, which also include Star Alliance Gold status. [3]
  • International First, Star Alliance Gold and eligible paid lounge membership customers may each bring one guest, who must fly from the same airport that day. [6]

Cabin or status: the two routes in

Star Alliance and its member airlines together provide access to more than 1,000 lounges worldwide. [6] The alliance describes two separate tests. The first is the ticket: International First and Business Class customers have access to Star Alliance lounges when travelling in First and Business. [6] The second is status: Star Alliance Gold customers have access when travelling on a Star Alliance flight in any class of travel. [6] Star Alliance Silver customers do not have access to Star Alliance lounges. [6]

Whichever route applies, the traveller must be departing on a flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline in order to use a Star Alliance or Star Alliance member airline lounge at the departure airport. [6] Arrival lounge access is not a Star Alliance benefit; for arrival lounges the alliance directs travellers to the airline operating the flight. [6]

For a specific airport, the alliance publishes a lounge finder that can be filtered by airline, cabin class, frequent flyer programme and programme status. [6] SWISS appears in its airline list and Miles & More in its list of programmes, so the tool can be used to look up departure lounges on a SWISS itinerary. [6] The finder covers departure lounges only, and lounges operated by Star Alliance Connecting Partners are not included in it. [6]

First lounges and HON Circle

The SWISS First Lounge is named in the Miles & More description of HON Circle benefits. [3] HON Circle membership includes First Class Lounge access: the Lufthansa First Class Lounges, the SWISS First Lounges, the Austrian HON Circle Lounge and the lounges at the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt. [3] Those benefits apply when flying with Lufthansa Group airlines, co-issuing Miles & More airline partners and Star Alliance airlines. [3]

HON Circle is a status earned rather than bought: a member needs at least 6,000 HON Circle Points in a calendar year to achieve or renew it. [3] HON Circle membership also includes Star Alliance Gold status, which the programme describes as carrying status benefits on all flights operated by Star Alliance airlines. [3] The same benefits page mentions a personal assistant service on departure and arrival at the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, the First Class Lounges in Frankfurt and Munich, and at other airports. [3]

Business and Senator lounges

Miles & More lists Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle among its statuses. [3]

What the sources do support is the alliance floor: a Business Class ticket on an international Star Alliance itinerary is an access route, and Star Alliance Gold is an access route in any cabin on a Star Alliance flight. [6] The lounge finder, filtered by airline and programme status, is the published way to see which departure lounges are listed for a given trip. [6]

Guests and paid entry

On the status and cabin side, International First, Star Alliance Gold and eligible paid lounge membership customers are entitled to one guest. [6] The guest must enter the designated lounge with the eligible customer and must present a boarding pass for a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport. [6] If a guest is refused, Gold members are told to raise the matter with the airline of the programme they belong to, and travellers admitted by cabin with the airline they were flying. [6]

Paid lounge entry sits outside both routes. Star Alliance sells lounge reservations at more than 1,000 lounges, and the alliance states that a purchase requires neither frequent flyer status nor Business Class travel. [4] The conditions attached to a purchase are specific: the traveller must be flying on a Star Alliance member carrier flight, and may enter only the lounge reserved. [4] The reservation and a same-day boarding pass must be presented at entry, and identification may be requested. [4] A booking can cover up to nine people including the purchaser, and a further nine guests can be added under the same reservation. [4] The person reserving must be at least 18 years old. [4] A paid stay is capped at three hours unless the access document or the lounge states otherwise. [4]

Exceptions and limits

  • Connecting itineraries. A Star Alliance Gold customer travelling on a connecting itinerary has access to Star Alliance member owned lounges, Star Alliance branded lounges, Connecting Partner lounges and lounges contracted by the Connecting Partner; a connecting itinerary is a direct connection between a Star Alliance member flight and a Connecting Partner flight in the same reservation. [6]
  • Silver and arrivals. Star Alliance Silver customers have no Star Alliance lounge access, and arrival lounge access is not a Star Alliance benefit. [6]
  • House rules. Lounges apply their own terms and conditions for entry, including dress code and conduct, and child access policies differ between lounge providers. [4]
  • Paid bookings cannot be edited freely. Names, email, flight number and comments may be changed, but the date and time cannot; the booking must be cancelled and made again. [4]
