GUIDE

Admirals Club access rules: who gets in, on which flights, and with how many guests

American Airlines admits you to an Admirals Club lounge on the basis of membership, class of service or AAdvantage status, and each of those routes has its own test for the flight you are on. [1] Admirals Club members, including annual and lifetime members, Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard primary cardmembers, ConciergeKey members and AirPass members with Admirals Club privileges, show an Admirals Club digital membership card, or the physical Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard, or an AAdvantage status card, and members show a boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight, which for members means a departing or arriving flight marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus; a government-issued photo ID may also be required. [1] Guest allowances run from immediate family or up to 2 guests for members down to no guests at all for most qualifying cabin customers, so the route you use decides how many people come in with you. [1]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Entry comes from one of the listed routes: membership (annual, lifetime, Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard primary cardmembers, ConciergeKey, AirPass with Admirals Club privileges), qualifying First or Business, qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro or Platinum status, non-AAdvantage oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status, Alaska Airlines Atmos tiers, or a One-Day Pass. [1]
  • For members, an eligible flight is any departing or arriving flight marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus, and same-day priority verification cards are accepted. [1]
  • The AAdvantage status route is narrower: it applies only to qualifying international flights marketed and operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus, the flight must be within 24 hours of your visit, and non-revenue passengers are not eligible. [1]
  • Guest rules differ by route: immediate family or up to 2 guests for members, 1 guest for AAdvantage status and oneworld status holders and for qualifying international First, no guests for other qualifying cabin customers, and up to 3 children under 18 for a One-Day Pass. [1]
  • A One-Day Pass costs $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles, and One-Day Pass access to Admirals Club lounges may be limited or not available based on lounge capacity. [1] [2]

What you can do after reading this guide

  • Match your own ticket, status and card to the one access route that fits, instead of assuming every Admirals Club door opens on the same terms.
  • Read a boarding pass and check whether the flight is marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus before you walk to the lounge.
  • Know which item you need in hand at the desk — digital card, physical Citi card, status card or One-Day Pass — and when a government-issued photo ID may also be asked for.
  • Count the guests you can bring, including which companions need their own boarding pass for same-day travel on American or a oneworld airline.

Who this applies to and what you need first

This guide covers entry to American Airlines Admirals Club lounges under the rules published on aa.com for the United States: the access routes on the access page and the One-Day Pass mechanics on the membership page. [1] [2] It does not reproduce membership rate tables; rates are based on your AAdvantage status when you buy and are published on the membership page, where updated rates for new memberships begin Aug. 23, 2026. [2]

You must have an AAdvantage account to get an Admirals Club membership. [2] At the door you need the item that matches your route — an Admirals Club digital membership card, a physical Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard, an AAdvantage status card or a One-Day Pass — plus a boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight, and a government-issued photo ID may also be required. [1] Digital membership cards are available on iOS and Android: sign in to your AAdvantage account in the American app, go to your account summary, find "View Admirals Club card" in the app menu and save the card to your device's digital wallet. [1]

This guide does not cover Admirals Club membership pricing tiers, Flagship Lounges, or lounge access rules published for markets outside the United States. [2]

How do you work out whether you can get in?

  1. Identify the route you are claiming: membership, cabin, AAdvantage status, oneworld status, Alaska Atmos status or a One-Day Pass. [1]
  2. Check the flight wording for that route. For members the flight must be marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus; for qualifying cabin and AAdvantage status routes it must be marketed and operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus. [1]
  3. Check the date. You need a boarding pass for same-day travel. [1] The 24-hour condition and the non-revenue exclusion are footnotes to two sections only — qualifying First and Business, and qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum — under which your departing or arriving flight must be within 24 hours of your visit and non-revenue passengers aren't eligible. [1]
  4. Check the route lists. The international list covers flights between the U.S. and Asia, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Mexico, the Middle East, New Zealand and South America; the transcontinental list covers seats ticketed as Flagship between JFK and LAX, JFK and SFO, JFK and SNA, LAX and MIA, and LAX and BOS. [1]
  5. Apply the footnote that belongs to those same two sections: on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, access is not granted when flying from the United States to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico. [1]
  6. Assemble what you will show: your membership item and your boarding pass, with your AAdvantage number or oneworld Frequent Flyer number on it, or a status card if the number is not printed there. [1]
  7. Count your guests against the allowance for your route, and make sure each guest has a boarding pass for same-day travel on American or a oneworld airline where the rules require it. [1]
  8. If you are using a One-Day Pass, buy it online or at select locations and activate it by entering an Admirals Club within 12 months of purchase, after which it may be used for 24 hours. [1] [2]

The same page adds that under all other oneworld frequent flyer programmes, access is granted when travelling on any oneworld carrier regardless of cabin. [1] It also lists two further routes: U.S. military personnel travelling in uniform on a same-day flight operated by American enter with a military ID and a boarding pass, with immediate family or up to 2 guests, except at the Airspace Lounge in San Diego (SAN) and the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu (HNL); and Citi / AAdvantage Globe and Citi Strata Elite cardholders each hold an annual benefit of 4 Admirals Club passes in the AAdvantage wallet for the primary cardmember and adult companions travelling with them, where each companion 18 or older needs one pass and up to 3 children under 18 travelling with an adult pass holder may also enter. [1]

Worked example (illustration)

Illustration only: you hold AAdvantage Platinum status and are flying on a ticket in economy between the United States and Europe, on a flight marketed and operated by American. That fits the qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum route, because your flight is on the listed international list and is marketed and operated by American. [1] At the desk you show your qualifying boarding pass with your AAdvantage number, and a government-issued photo ID may also be required. [1] Your flight must be within 24 hours of your visit, and if you were travelling on a non-revenue ticket you would not be eligible. [1] You may bring 1 guest, and children over 2 count as a guest; that guest must be accompanied by you and must be travelling on a departing or arriving oneworld flight. [1] A transcontinental flight qualifies only if the seat is ticketed as Flagship, and then it is judged against the qualifying First and Business list. [1]

Common reasons it fails

  • The boarding pass is not for an eligible flight. A member needs same-day travel on a flight marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus, while a One-Day Pass needs a flight marketed or operated by American or marketed and operated by a oneworld airline. [1]
  • The flight is outside the 24-hour window. This is a footnote to the qualifying First and Business section and to the qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum section: on those routes your departing or arriving flight must be within 24 hours of your visit. [1]
  • The flight is Alaska-operated to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico. The same two sections footnote that on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, access is not granted when flying from the United States to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico. [1]
  • The ticket is non-revenue. Under the same two sections, non-revenue passengers are not eligible. [1]
  • A Citi / AAdvantage Executive primary cardmember or authorized user shows only a digital card. They must show their physical credit card for entry. [1]
  • Your status number is not on the boarding pass and you have no status card. You need to provide your AAdvantage number or AAdvantage status card, or your oneworld programme status card, physical or electronic. [1]
  • The lounge is full. One-Day Pass access may be limited or not available based on lounge capacity, and in popular locations and peak season One-Day Passes may not be redeemable or available for purchase. [1] [2]
  • The pass is in someone else's name. One-Day Passes purchased online are currently non-transferable and must contain the name of the guest intending to use the pass. [2]

Exceptions and limits

  • Membership reaches beyond Admirals Club locations. Membership also covers all Alaska Airlines Lounges when departing or arriving on flights marketed and operated by American or Alaska Airlines, all Qantas Clubs when departing or arriving on same-day flights operated by Qantas or operated by American out of Auckland or Sydney, and select third-party partner lounges on same-day flights operated by American. [1]
  • The membership type changes the guest rule. Guest access remains available with most membership tiers, but the new single membership type does not allow guest access or third-party lounge access, and starting Aug. 23, 2026 an annual single membership provides individual access to nearly 50 Admirals Club lounges. [2]
  • Flagship service is seasonal. Flagship service between Phoenix (PHX) and Honolulu (HNL) operates seasonally, and only customers with a ticketed Flagship seat qualify for Flagship Lounge access. [1]
  • Renewals keep the original expiration date. Members can renew up to 90 days before or up to 30 days after expiration, pay the renewal rate, and keep their original expiration date. [2]
  • Rate changes are separate from access rules. Membership rates are based on your AAdvantage status when you buy, updated rates for new memberships begin Aug. 23, 2026, and One-Day Pass rates are not changing. [2]

Frequently asked questions

Can I show a digital membership card instead of a physical one?

Yes for Admirals Club membership: digital membership cards can be saved in the American app's digital wallet on iOS and Android, and you can enter the Admirals Club lounge and select partner lounges with them. [1] Citi / AAdvantage Executive primary cardmembers and authorized users must show their physical credit card for entry. [1]

Does the flight have to be operated by American?

Not necessarily. For members the flight may be marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus; for the AAdvantage status route and the qualifying First/Business route it must be marketed and operated by one of those carriers. For non-AAdvantage oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members it must be marketed and operated by American or a oneworld airline. [1] For a One-Day Pass it must be marketed or operated by American, or marketed and operated by any oneworld airline. [1]

How many guests can I bring?

It depends on the route: immediate family or up to 2 guests for members; 1 guest for AAdvantage status holders, oneworld Emerald and Sapphire holders, Alaska Atmos tier holders and qualifying international First customers; no guests for all other qualifying cabin customers; and up to 3 children under 18 with a One-Day Pass. [1]

How long is a One-Day Pass good for?

One-Day Passes may be activated by entering an Admirals Club within 12 months of purchase, and once activated the pass may be used for 24 hours. [2] The pass holder must show a boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight. [2]
