How to Book Aer Lingus AerClub Awards

The British Airways Club, Finnair Plus and Iberia Club are Avios programmes [4] [6] [7].

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Each of the three programmes checked presents Avios as the currency its members collect and spend, but each does so for its own programme: The British Airways Club calls Avios the reward currency of the Club [4], Finnair Plus members collect and use Avios on Finnair and partner awards [6], and Iberia Club shows an Avios balance and a "Fly with Avios" booking entry [7].
  • Where the checked programmes describe award booking, they describe it for their own flights and their own partners [4] [6]. Nothing on those pages carries across to Aer Lingus.
  • Until an Aer Lingus page is added to the source set for this guide, any AerClub figure quoted elsewhere should be treated as unverified.

What the checked sources establish

The British Airways Club. Avios is described as the reward currency of the Club, which members collect to spend on flights, hotels, holidays and car rental [4]. The Club pages list a "Book a flight with Avios" entry point and a separate page on Reward Flights [4]. The Club also says members can pool Avios with family and friends, without giving a number of participants on the page checked [4].

Finnair Plus. Finnair Plus members collect Avios from Finnair flights, travel extras and partner services, and can use them on Finnair award flights, award flights with partners and travel-class upgrades [6]. Finnair's site keeps "Use Avios on Finnair award flights" and "Use Avios on award flights with partners" as two separate pages [6]. Finnair also lets members claim Avios for flights taken up to six months before joining [6].

Iberia Club. Iberia's site shows an Avios balance once a member is signed in, offers a "Fly with Avios" booking entry, and describes a Family account that combines Avios from up to 7 people into a single balance [7]. Each of these statements is published by the programme named, for that programme, and should not be read as a rule of any other programme.

Booking paths the sources show

Each of the checked programmes sends members to its own award-booking entry point rather than to a shared one: The British Airways Club to "Book a flight with Avios" [4], Finnair Plus to "Use Avios on Finnair award flights" [6], and Iberia Club to "Fly with Avios" [7]. None of those pages states that the same entry point books Aer Lingus awards [4] [6] [7].

The one structural distinction the checked pages do show is between a programme's own flights and partner flights: Finnair publishes separate pages for Finnair award flights and for award flights with partners [6]. When you reach the point of booking a partner-operated flight, use the partner award booking checklist, which treats the operating programme and route as the governing rules.

What is not published for AerClub

This is a limit of the source set, not a finding that AerClub lacks these features. Read the AerClub programme page and the Avios programmes compared page alongside this one, and confirm any figure on Aer Lingus's own terms before you commit Avios.

Exceptions and limits

  • Scope. This page is about Aer Lingus AerClub awards booked with Avios on Aer Lingus. Awards on partner-operated flights are outside its scope and follow the operating programme and route.
  • Landing pages are not full terms. Their silence about AerClub therefore proves nothing about AerClub's rules.
  • Claiming is not booking. Finnair's six-month window for claiming Avios on flights taken before joining is a retro-claim rule of Finnair Plus, not an award-booking rule, and it does not apply to AerClub [6].
  • Pooling differs by programme. Iberia's Family account combines Avios from up to 7 people [7], while The British Airways Club describes pooling with family and friends without a number on the page checked [4]. Neither describes AerClub, so no AerClub household rule can be inferred from them.
  • Transfers are separate. The ratio at which Avios move between programmes is a transfer ratio question and is not covered here.
