How to book GOL Smiles award flights
Smiles is the frequent flyer programme of GOL Linhas Aéreas, a Brazilian airline, and award seats booked with Smiles miles are priced when you search rather than from a fixed chart, so the miles needed depend on the airline, cabin and destination you choose. [6] Smiles miles can be spent with GOL and with partner airlines, and the programme advertises more than 1,600 destinations across GOL and 55 carriers. [1]

Key takeaways
- There is no fixed Smiles award chart: the miles required vary with the partner airline, cabin and destination, and with demand and how far ahead you book. [6]
- Tickets can be taken with miles alone or with miles plus cash through Smiles & Money. [1]
- Mile validity depends on your Smiles category and on how the miles were earned, from six years for miles flown on GOL at Smiles and Prata level up to 20 years at Diamante. [5]
How do you search and price a Smiles award?
Redemptions are made directly on the Smiles website or app, using the member's Smiles number and password. [6] The search screen shows everything needed to issue the ticket: the miles required, the domestic and international destinations available, flight dates and times, and seat availability. [6] An award can only be issued when seats are available for issuance with miles under the programme's seat rules. [6]
The miles needed for a ticket may vary according to the partner airline, the cabin and the destination. [6] GOL states that it does not practise predetermined prices for air tickets or other awards; the price shown reflects the availability of the award from GOL or from the partner, the conditions of the offer, demand, seat availability in both the cash and miles markets, the current cash and miles price of seats, how far in advance you buy, high-demand periods such as holidays and commemorative dates, and the cost of acquiring the award. [6] Because GOL describes itself as an airline rather than a retailer, it does not control partners' award inventory and cannot guarantee the price displayed on the Smiles site until the partner authorises, confirms and concludes the operation. [6]
Two messages can interrupt a search on the Smiles booking flow. One says that no one-way-only flight was found for the offer selected and suggests looking at other options; the other reports that there is no availability for the number of passengers requested on that flight. [4] The page's options are to look at other available flights in the first case and to redo the search in the second. [4]
How does cash plus miles work on Smiles?
Smiles says members can combine miles and money when issuing their tickets, and the site lists Smiles & Money among its products alongside a help page on buying a ticket with miles and money. [1] When the miles balance is not enough to complete an issuance, the booking flow states that it has switched the payment of the fees to the next option that the available miles can cover. [4]
Smiles also advertises Viaje Fácil, described as issuing without miles, locking in the price and still earning bonus miles, with a seal marking participating flights. [4] The programme regulation treats Viaje Fácil as a Smiles ticket product that the member may not yet have paid for. [6]
What fees and cancellation rules apply?
Before an issuance is completed, the booking flow presents the fare rules, the full fare and cancellation rules, and an air ticket redemption contract. [4] Taxes and airport charges paid on a ticket are not mileage-earning: the regulation lists payments of any taxes and airport fees, fines and penalties among the acts that generate no Smiles miles. [6]
Doubt, cancellations, changes and complaints about flights issued with miles through the Smiles site are handled by the Smiles service centre, which GOL lists separately from its general customer service. [7]
| Channel | Members | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| 0300 115 7001 | Smiles and Prata | 6am to midnight daily, except holidays [7] |
| 0300 115 7007 | Ouro, Diamante and Magno | 24 hours [7] |
| WhatsApp +55 11 991 824 233 | Diamante and Magno only | 24 hours [7] |
When do Smiles miles expire?
The programme regulation sets a general rule of 36 months for Smiles and Prata members, 48 months for Ouro and 120 months for Diamante and Diamante Magno, counted from the date and time the miles were credited and using the category held before that credit. [6] When miles are spent, the account is debited from the nearest expiry date to the furthest, so soon-expiring miles are used first. [6] Smiles also publishes a table that varies the period according to where the miles came from. [5]
| Miles earned on | Smiles | Prata | Ouro | Diamante |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GOL flights | 6 years | 6 years | 8 years | 20 years [5] |
| Partner airline flights (excluding partner bonus miles) | 3 years | 3 years | 4 years | 10 years [5] |
Other routes carry their own periods: bonus miles from credit-card points-transfer promotions last six months, miles from the buy-miles product and reactivated miles last 12 months, and miles moved between Smiles accounts last six months. [5] Monthly Clube Smiles miles last ten years on the 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 plans and do not expire on the 7,000, 10,000 and 20,000 plans. [5]
To check, log in, open Minha Conta and read the "Milhas a Expirar" box in Meus Dados; Smiles also sends a monthly newsletter with the balance and miles close to expiry. [5] The app can extend validity by 30, 60 or up to 90 days, and expired miles can be recovered through Reativar Milhas. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- The published validity table covers Smiles, Prata, Ouro and Diamante; the regulation separately gives Diamante Magno the same 120 months as Diamante. [5] [6]
- A Smiles account with a zero balance that has not been used for more than 12 months may be cancelled by GOL, which notifies the member, preferably by email, 30 days in advance. [6]
- If a member cancels their Smiles participation, the account and its miles are cancelled, but tickets already issued and not yet used remain valid, with flight details available from GOL or the operating partner airline. [6] Any GOL ticket reservation or Smiles ticket product not yet paid for, such as Viaje Fácil, is cancelled automatically. [6]
- Smiles miles are personal and non-transferable and cannot be converted into money, although the regulation allows punctual exceptions for specific products and services run by GOL and its partners. [6]
- Reactivated miles carry 12 months of validity. [5]
Frequently asked questions

There is no fixed chart to look up. The amount appears in the search results and reflects the airline, cabin, destination, demand and how far ahead you book. [6]
Can I pay cash for part of a Smiles award?
Yes, through Smiles & Money, which the programme describes as combining miles and money on the same issuance. [1]

They do, on a schedule that depends on your category and on how the miles were earned, ranging from 36 months under the general rule to 20 years for miles flown on GOL at Diamante level. [6] [5]
What happens to my award ticket if I close my Smiles account?
Tickets already issued and not yet used stay valid, while unpaid bookings such as Viaje Fácil are cancelled automatically. [6]
