How to buy KrisFlyer miles from Singapore Airlines
Buying KrisFlyer miles means adding miles from KrisFlyer, the frequent flyer programme of Singapore Airlines, directly to your own KrisFlyer account rather than earning them through flights or partner activity. [5] The programme terms state that, should KrisFlyer miles be able to be purchased, those purchased miles may only be redeemed in Singapore for the payment or part payment of goods or services provided by Singapore Airlines and its related corporations. [5]

Key takeaways
- KrisFlyer miles are the base unit of the KrisFlyer programme, each member has a personal account to which miles are credited, and miles may not be exchanged for cash or vouchers. [5]
- The terms address purchased miles specifically: if miles can be purchased, they may only be redeemed in Singapore towards goods or services provided by Singapore Airlines and its related corporations. [5]
- Membership and miles are personal — they cannot be transferred, sold or bartered, and pooling miles between members is not permitted. [5]
- Elite miles come from flying and, from 1 September 2025, from qualifying Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago spend; tier bonuses and promotional bonuses do not count as Elite miles. [5] [6]
What does it mean to buy KrisFlyer miles?
KrisFlyer miles are the base unit of measurement in the KrisFlyer programme, and every member holds a personal account to which the miles they earn are credited. [5] Membership is open to individuals aged two and above, requires parental or legal guardian consent for members aged between 2 and 16, and is not available to corporations or other legal entities. [5]
A KrisFlyer membership is strictly personal and only for use by the member: it cannot be transferred, sold or bartered, and an account cannot be transferred to another individual. [5] Multiple memberships are not permitted, and several people cannot be enrolled in a single account. [5] Miles credited to an account therefore stay with the member named on it. [5]
What do the KrisFlyer terms say about purchased miles?
The terms deal with buying miles in one specific way: should KrisFlyer miles be able to be purchased, those purchased miles may only be redeemed in Singapore for the payment or part payment of goods or services (or both) provided by Singapore Airlines and its related corporations. [5]
Other account rules sit around that provision. KrisFlyer miles may not be exchanged for cash or vouchers, and pooling of KrisFlyer miles between members is not permitted. [5] Transfer of miles from one member's account to another is not permitted, except from a minor's account to a linked parent or guardian's account where the account-linking requirements are met and the relevant service fees are paid. [5]
Singapore Airlines reserves the right to modify the programme and these terms at its sole discretion without prior notice, including the rules for earning or using KrisFlyer miles, award levels and redemption levels and availability. [5] Members are responsible for keeping themselves informed of the current terms, and continued participation is treated as acceptance of any amendment. [5] For help judging whether a purchase suits a particular trip, see buying miles for a specific trip.
What can KrisFlyer miles in an account be used for?
Miles in a KrisFlyer account can be used for award tickets and upgrade awards on Singapore Airlines, Star Alliance and other partner airlines, and for part or all of Singapore Airlines airfares, airport taxes and selected ancillaries booked on singaporeair.com. [5] They can also cover selected Scoot Economy award tickets and part or all of Scoot fares and taxes booked on FlyScoot.com or the Scoot mobile app. [5]
Further uses listed in the terms include service fees, such as extending expiring KrisFlyer miles and changing redemption nominees; bookings on krisshop.com and krisflyervrooms.com, where krisflyervrooms.com requires a minimum of 1,500 KrisFlyer miles per transaction; conversion to partner programme loyalty points and to KrisPay miles; partner vouchers; and contributions under the Singapore Airlines Group Voluntary Carbon Offset Programme. [5]
Partner vouchers are issued in Singapore Dollars, are valid for 180 days from the date of issue, are valid for one-time use and cannot be extended under any circumstance, and they cannot be exchanged for cash or refunded for KrisFlyer miles. [5]
How are KrisFlyer Elite miles and PPS Value earned?
Elite miles, which decide KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold membership, are earned when members fly Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance partner airlines and selected airline partners. [6] Elite Silver requires 25,000 Elite miles earned within 12 consecutive months, and Elite Gold requires 50,000 within 12 consecutive months, with each membership lasting 12 months. [6]
From 1 September 2025, members also earn 1 Elite mile for every SGD 1 spent on qualifying transactions with Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago. [5] [6] Non-flight Elite miles count towards up to 20% of the qualification or requalification requirement — a maximum of 5,000 miles for Elite Silver and 10,000 for Elite Gold. [5] [6] Tier bonuses and any type of promotional bonus do not count as Elite miles, and Elite miles cannot be redeemed for award flights, upgrade awards or airfares. [5] [6] Elite miles are reset to zero at the end of each individual 12-month Elite membership year. [5]
PPS Club qualification is assessed separately: PPS Value is derived from the actual amounts, excluding airport taxes, spent on Singapore Airlines Suites, First Class and Business Class commercial tickets, and cannot be earned on Premium Economy or Economy Class travel. [5] Earning through credit cards is a separate route to miles and is explained on KrisFlyer card earning.
What limits and account rules apply?
- If the miles credited to an account are incorrect, members should tell KrisFlyer within three months of receiving their statement; Singapore Airlines is not obliged to correct under-crediting not brought to its notice within that period, while over-crediting may be corrected at any time. [5]
- For flight transactions, members should allow two weeks for Singapore Airlines flights and four weeks for partner airline flights before raising a missing-miles claim, and claims are accepted within six months of the transaction date. [5]
- An account with no recorded activity — transactions in which a member earns KrisFlyer miles — for 45 consecutive months may be closed without prior notice, and an account with no recorded activity for 24 months from the start of membership may also be closed. [5]
- If membership is permanently excluded or terminated, accrued KrisFlyer miles, status credits and rewards are revoked and forfeited without compensation, and miles are forfeited on the death of a member. [5]
- Miles converted to a partner programme cannot be reversed, and miles transferred from a non-airline partner programme into a KrisFlyer account cannot be reversed either. [5]
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy KrisFlyer miles for someone else's account?
Not through the account-transfer route: miles cannot be moved from one member's account to another, and membership cannot be transferred, sold or bartered. [5] The exception in the terms is a minor's account, from which miles may be transferred to a linked parent or guardian's account where linking requirements are met and service fees are paid. [5]
What can purchased KrisFlyer miles be spent on?
The terms provide that purchased miles may only be redeemed in Singapore for the payment or part payment of goods or services provided by Singapore Airlines and its related corporations. [5]
Do bought KrisFlyer miles count towards Elite Silver or Elite Gold?
Elite miles are earned from flights on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance partner airlines and selected airline partners, and from 1 September 2025 from qualifying spend with Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago. [5] [6] Tier bonuses and any type of promotional bonus do not count as Elite miles. [5] [6]
How long do I have to query miles that never appeared?
Discrepancies in an account should be reported within three months of the transaction. [5] For flights, allow two weeks for Singapore Airlines and four weeks for partner airlines before claiming, and raise the claim within six months of the transaction date. [5]
Can KrisFlyer miles be turned back into cash?
No: KrisFlyer miles may not be exchanged for cash or vouchers. [5] Partner vouchers redeemed with miles are also single-use, valid for 180 days and not refundable for miles. [5]
