How to use Cathay Marco Polo Club lounge access
Cathay lounge access for members of Cathay Pacific's frequent flyer programme is governed by Cathay's membership terms and by the benefit summaries published alongside them; Cathay spells out lounge entitlement mainly as Lounge Passes earned at Status Points milestones, and lists lounge passes again inside its flight-award rules. [4] [5] The oneworld alliance publishes alliance-level lounge and benefit information. [2]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Cathay's membership terms are effective on and from 1 January 2026 (time in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China) and the programme is provided by Asia Miles Limited. [5]
- The lounge entitlement is a Lounge Pass earned at a Status Points milestone, not a standing rule that a given tier may always use a lounge. [4]
- Lounge passes also appear in Cathay's flight-award rules, which include a section headed "Flight Awards – Lounge Pass Redemption". [5]
Where the lounge rules sit
Cathay's current terms and its key-changes notice both use the name "Cathay Membership Programme"; neither document uses the name Marco Polo Club. [4] [5] The terms page checked lists status benefits and a "Flight Awards – Lounge Pass Redemption" section among the parts of the programme the terms govern, which is where a member should expect lounge wording to appear. [5] The detail of what a status actually earns is summarised separately in the key-changes notice, which is the document this guide relies on for pass levels. [4]
Oneworld's own members page states that the alliance network serves more than 900 destinations in 170 territories with hundreds of airport lounges, and it publishes separate pages for airport lounges and for benefits. [2] That is alliance-level material: it gives the size and shape of the lounge network without listing which tier, cabin or fare qualifies for which lounge. [2] For programme mechanics rather than lounge mechanics, see the Cathay programme profile.
Lounge Passes and Status Points
Silver. Cathay's notice renames the Silver mid-status benefit as a Silver milestone benefit and says that, on earning 450 Status Points, Silver members will still be able to earn two Business class Lounge Passes for themselves or for travel companions when travelling together on a Cathay Pacific flight. [4]
Gold and Diamond before 2027. The same notice records the position that applies until 31 December 2026: Gold members can earn two Business class Lounge Passes on reaching 800 Status Points, and Diamond members can earn two First class or Business class Lounge Passes on reaching 1,400 Status Points, in both cases as mid-status benefits. [4] From 12.00am on 1 January 2027 the mid-status benefit feature is removed for Gold and Diamond, so those two pass awards are no longer earned. [4] Benefits already earned during 2026 remain valid for 12 months from the date of issue. [4]
Diamond Exec. Cathay introduces Diamond Exec on 1 January 2027 at a minimum of 2,400 Status Points in an earning period. [4] The key benefits listed for that status are a relationship manager, four single-sector Upgrade Passes, one complimentary Gold companion membership and a buggy service for departures on Cathay Pacific-marketed flights from the international airport in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China at gates 40 to 80, limited to once per member per flight and subject to the third-party provider's availability. [4] Lounge passes are not among the benefits listed for Diamond Exec. [4] Lounge conditions at the airport itself are collected on the Cathay Pacific lounges page.
Cabin, guests and routes
Cabin. The passes described are named by lounge class — Business class for the Silver and Gold awards, First class or Business class for the Diamond award — but the notice does not say what decides which of the two a Diamond member receives. [4]
Guests. The Silver milestone description allows the two Business class Lounge Passes to be used by the member or by travel companions when they are travelling together on a Cathay Pacific flight. [4]
Routes. The Silver requirement is that the member and companions travel on a Cathay Pacific flight, which is narrower than travel on any carrier. [4] The lounge access checklist sets out what to confirm before relying on any entitlement.
Exceptions and dates
- Two clocks. Gold and Diamond lounge passes stop being earned from 12.00am on 1 January 2027, yet a pass earned during 2026 stays valid for 12 months from its issue date, so passes earned late in 2026 can still be used after the award itself is withdrawn. [4]
- Earning window. Because the awards described are tied to Status Points totals, the counting period matters: Cathay says status from 1 January 2027 will be determined by Status Points earned between 1 January and 31 December 2026. [4]
- Terms lag. Cathay states that its updated membership terms do not reflect the changes taking effect on 1 January 2027 and that the version reflecting them will be provided during 2026. [4]
- Silver exception to the removal. The removal announced for 1 January 2027 covers Gold and Diamond mid-status benefits; the Silver milestone benefit at 450 Status Points is described as continuing. [4]
