How to earn JAL Mileage Bank miles on oneworld flights
Earning JAL Mileage Bank miles on oneworld flights means having flight mileage credited to a JMB account for a flight flown with an alliance partner, calculated from the sector mileage flown and the accumulation rate that the partner's own published table attaches to the booking class of the purchased fare. Each partner sets its own class list, rates and codeshare conditions, and a ticket issued in a booking class the partner does not list earns nothing whatever the fare paid. [4] [5] [6]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Mileage is credited automatically when a member travels on an eligible flight and gives the JMB membership number in nine digits at reservation or check-in, and every ticket must be issued in the member's own name. [4] [5] [6]
- The credit is the sector mileage for the sectors travelled multiplied by the accumulation rate for the booking class of the purchased ticket. [4] [5] [6]
- A booking class that does not appear in the partner's table earns no mileage at all, regardless of the fare paid. [4] [5] [6]
- Codeshare flights count only where the flight is operated by a permitted carrier and carries the right partner flight number. [4] [5] [6]
How a flight is credited
Flight mileage is credited automatically to a JMB account when the member travels on an eligible flight, and to accrue it the JMB membership number must be given in nine digits when making the reservation or at check-in. [4] [5] [6] Members whose membership number has fewer than nine digits add a leading zero, so 1234567 is entered as 001234567. [4] [5] [6] All tickets must be issued in the JMB member's name. [4] [5] [6]
The size of the credit depends on two inputs only: the sector mileage specified for the sectors travelled, and the accumulation rate for the fare of the ticket that was purchased. [4] [5] [6] Sector mileage itself is calculated on IATA Ticketed Point Mileage (TPM), and it is revised in July and January of the following year using the TPM released in the previous spring and autumn. [4] [5] [6]
Where the number was not supplied before departure, credit is requested after the flight, and the request must be made within six months of the flight date. [4] [5] [6]
Fare classes and rates by partner
The tables are not interchangeable, so the same booking-class letter can earn on one partner and earn nothing on another. [4] [5] [6]
- SriLankan Airlines (UL). Business class J, C, D earns 125% and I earns 100%; economy Y, B, P, H earns 100%, K, W, M, E earns 70%, L, R, V, S earns 50%, and N, Q, O earns 30%. [4] The SriLankan table lists no First Class row. [4]
- Malaysia Airlines (MH). For departures from 1 April 2025, First Class and Business Suite F, A earns 150%; business J, C, D earns 125% and Z earns 70%; economy Y, B earns 100%, H, K, M earns 70%, L, V, S earns 50% and N, Q, O earns 30%. [5] For departures up to 31 March 2025 the same page gives a different set, with Z at 100%, H at 100%, K and M at 50% and L, V, S at 25%. [5]
- Iberia (IB). Business J, C, D, R earns 125% and I earns 70%; premium economy W, E, T earns 100%; economy Y, B earns 100%, H, K earns 70%, L, M, V, F, Z, G earns 50% and S, N, O, Q, A earns 25%. [6] The Iberia table shows the First Class row without applicable booking classes or a rate. [6]
On all three pages, Inclusive Tour Fares are eligible for mileage accrual when they are booked in one of the applicable booking classes, and some fares may accrue at a rate that differs from the published table. [4] [5] [6]
Exceptions and limits
- Name. Mileage does not accrue when travelling under a different name. [4] [5] [6]
- Ticket type. Award tickets, non-revenue tickets and special discounted fares — travel agent fares, tour conductor fares and infant fares among them — are excluded. [4] [5] [6]
- Aircraft and operation. Cargo flights and charter flights are excluded, with an exception for JAL international flights. [4] [5] [6]
- Not flown. No mileage accrues when the flight is not boarded for any reason, including a flight delay or cancellation. [4] [5] [6]
- Elite bonus. FLY ON members receive additional bonus miles per flight according to FLY ON membership level, as published on the Malaysia Airlines and Iberia pages. [5] [6]
- Late claims. Post-flight credit must be requested within six months of the flight date, so a missing credit is not recoverable indefinitely. [4] [5] [6]
