How to understand Qantas Frequent Flyer Status Credits and tier thresholds

Qantas Frequent Flyer status is built from Status Credits earned on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and partner airline flights, and those Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year. The published thresholds set the Status Credit totals for Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One. [1]

Key takeaways

  • Qantas Frequent Flyer status is built from Status Credits on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and partner airline flights, and those Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [1]
  • Silver, Gold and Platinum each require at least four eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ and GK) flight number on the ticket, both to reach the tier and to keep it. [1]
  • Platinum One requires 3,600 Status Credits, including at least 2,700 on flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket, for both reaching and keeping the tier. [1]
  • From 8 December 2026, Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year from everyday spend, but those Status Credits will not count toward Status Accelerator or Challenge earn requirements. [3]

How are Status Credits earned and what do they do?

Status Credits are earned on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and oneworld connect airline flights, and Qantas notes that some fare types and booking classes do not earn them at all. [1] For Silver, Gold and Platinum, reaching a tier takes the Status Credit total set for that tier plus at least four flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ and GK) flight number on the ticket that earn Status Credits, and a member advances when those requirements are met inside a Membership Year. [1]

Status Credits are separate from Qantas Points: a flight can earn both at once, but Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [1]

Which Qantas Frequent Flyer tiers and Status Credit thresholds apply?

Qantas Frequent Flyer publishes one set of Status Credit thresholds for reaching each tier and another for keeping it, as of 18 October 2026. [1] Silver, Gold and Platinum also carry the four-flight condition on both sides of the table, on Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ and GK) flight numbers. [1]

For Platinum One, the requirement is 3,600 Status Credits, including at least 2,700 on flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket, for both reaching and keeping the tier. [1] See the Qantas Frequent Flyer status guide for related status coverage.

How does the membership year affect Qantas status?

Status Credits are not a running balance that carries forward. They reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [1] Qantas sets the tier requirements within a Membership Year. [1] A member's Membership Year is set by the date they joined Qantas Frequent Flyer, and it can be found by logging into My Account or in the Qantas App under the MyQFF tab. [3]

From 8 December 2026, members can earn up to 140 Status Credits each Membership Year by meeting Qantas Points targets across ten categories of everyday spend: credit cards, banking and home loans, insurance, car, home utilities, hotels and accommodation, holidays and experiences, everyday shopping, retail and lifestyle, and sustainability. [3] Status Credits will arrive within eight weeks of a category being completed. [3] Which Membership Year counts depends on when the current one ends: a member whose Membership Year ends between 31 August and 30 November 2026 has activity in the next Membership Year counted, while a member whose Membership Year ends on 31 December 2026 or later has activity in the current Membership Year counted, including activity before 8 December. [3] No Status Credits will be awarded for this feature before the 8 December 2026 launch. [3] These Status Credits will count toward Lifetime Status but will not count toward Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward or Status Accelerator and Challenge earn requirements. [3]

What are the exceptions and limits?

  • Not every flight earns. Status Credits are earned only on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and oneworld connect airlines, and may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [1]
  • Platinum One's Qantas flight share. At least 2,700 of the 3,600 Status Credits must come from flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket, whether the member is reaching or keeping the tier. [1]
  • Lifetime status runs on its own thresholds. 7,000 Status Credits brings Lifetime Silver, 14,000 Lifetime Gold and 75,000 Lifetime Platinum. [4] Only Status Credits earned for travel on eligible Qantas (QF) or Jetstar Group (JQ and GK) flight numbers within a Membership Year count toward that benefit. [4] If a member's current flying status is higher than their lifetime tier, the lifetime benefits activate only once the higher status lapses. [4]
  • Ground earning has its own exclusions. Credit or charge card rewards points transferred into Qantas Points, bonus points from Qantas Points earning cards, points from hotel loyalty programmes outside Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qantas Wellbeing App points, family transfers, QBR points transfers, top-up points, and bonus and milestone rewards all sit outside Status Credits on the ground. [3] Qantas may change which points earning activity is eligible at any time. [3]
  • Location can cap ground earning. Members who do not live in Australia remain eligible, but their location may limit the ways they can earn Qantas Points and so may stop them reaching the full 140 Status Credits. [3]
  • Family arrangements are separate. Qantas offers a Status Hold for families, described on its status pages as a way to keep membership status while a family is changing and a member is flying less. [1]
