How to earn Qantas Points on oneworld and partner flights
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and partner airline flights, but the two currencies follow different rules, and Qantas states that Status Credits may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [4] Qantas directs members to its Airline Earning Tables and the programme terms for the detail, so alliance membership on its own does not show what a particular ticket will earn. [4]

Key takeaways
- Flights are one of the earning categories Qantas lists for Qantas Points, alongside hotels and accommodation, credit cards, everyday shopping and others. [1]
- Status Credits are earned on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and oneworld connect airlines only, and may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [4]
- Reaching Silver, Gold or Platinum also requires at least four eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ and GK) flight number on the ticket. [4]
- Status Credits reset at the start of each Membership Year, while Qantas Points sit in a separate balance with its own activity rules. [4] [3]
Two currencies, two sets of rules
Qantas treats Status Credits as distinct from Qantas Points: a member may earn both on the same flight, yet Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [4] Status Credits are the measure that moves a member through Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One [4], while Qantas Points are a separate balance used for Flight Rewards and Points Plus Pay, among other options. [1]
On the Qantas Points side, the programme's earn page groups flights with hotels and accommodation, credit cards, banking and home loans, everyday shopping, insurance, home utilities, car, and holidays and experiences, and points members to an A–Z of partners and a flight-earning calculator. [1] It does not publish per-airline rates on that page. [1]
Keeping a Qantas Points balance active is a separate question from earning Status Credits. Answering whether a Status Credit rollover resets a points expiry date, Qantas says it does not, and notes that members keep their points balance active by earning or using Qantas Points within 18 months. [3]
Which flights count
Qantas describes eligible flying as Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and partner airline flights, and refers members to its Airline Earning Tables and the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms for details. [4] For Status Credits specifically, the stated airline list is Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and oneworld connect airlines only. [4] The same terms state that Status Credits may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes [4], and that Qantas Points and ALL Reward points will not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [4]
Within that list, the return depends on where the member flies, which airline they choose and the fare purchased: Qantas says the more flexible the fare and the more premium the cabin, the more Status Credits are earned. [4] Earning rates for each partner airline and booking class are set out in the Airline Earning Tables. [4]
The airline list itself moves. oneworld's member page records a suspension of S7 Airlines' membership effective 19 April 2022, until further notice [2], and describes the alliance network as more than 900 destinations in 170 territories. [2] Checking the airline, the fare and the booking class against Qantas's tables is therefore part of the process, not a formality after it. [4] See the oneworld guide for the alliance side and partner earning for the general concept.
Flight numbers, Status Bonus and tier targets
Earning Status Credits is not the same test as reaching a tier. To attain Silver, Gold or Platinum, a member must earn the required Status Credits and take at least four eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ and GK) flight number on the ticket that earns Status Credits. [4] Platinum One goes further: of the 3,600 Status Credits required, at least 2,700 must come from flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket. [4] A year of partner flying can therefore earn Status Credits without meeting the flight-number conditions. [4]
Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members receive a Status Bonus on the base rate in the Airline Earning Tables, but only for those eligible flights to which a Status Bonus is expressed to apply. [4] For travel on Qantas the bonus is applied to the actual Qantas Points earned; for Jetstar and American Airlines it is applied to the actual Qantas Points earned when travelling in the economy cabin, and to the Flexible Economy earn rate for travel in premium cabins. [4]
On the page checked, the Status Credit targets are 300 for Silver, 700 for Gold, 1,400 for Platinum and 3,600 for Platinum One to reach a tier, and 250, 600, 1,200 and 3,600 respectively to keep it. [4] Qantas has announced that the retain targets change later in 2027, when a single Status Credit target will apply to attaining and retaining each tier — Gold, for example, at 700 a year, against 700 to attain and 600 to retain before the change. [3] Beyond annual tiers, the lifetime page sets Lifetime Silver at 7,000 Status Credits, Lifetime Gold at 14,000 and Lifetime Platinum at 75,000. [6]
Exceptions and limits
- Fare and booking class. Status Credits may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes, and Qantas Points and ALL Reward points are likewise not earned on some fare types and booking classes. [4]
- Flight number. Four QF, JQ or GK flights on the ticket are needed to attain Silver, Gold or Platinum, and 2,700 Status Credits on a Qantas flight number are needed for Platinum One. [4]
- Membership year. Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year, even where both currencies are earned on the same flight. [4]
- Status Credit rollover, from 8 December 2026. Eligible Silver members can roll over 25% of Status Credits above 300, up to 100; Gold 50% above 700, up to 350; Platinum 50% above 1,400, up to 500; Platinum One 50% above 3,600, up to 500. [3] Rolled-over Status Credits do not contribute towards the Loyalty Bonus, the Platinum and Platinum One Bonus Rewards, Lifetime Status or Status Accelerators. [3]
- Status Credits on the ground, from 8 December 2026. Up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year can be unlocked by collecting Qantas Points across ten everyday-spend categories, credited within eight weeks of completing a category. [3] [5] They come from spend rather than flying, and exclusions include family transfers, top-up points, bonus points from Qantas Points-earning credit cards and points earned through hotel loyalty programmes. [5]
- Alliance changes. oneworld records S7 Airlines' membership as suspended from 19 April 2022 until further notice, so an airline's current status has to be checked before counting on earnings. [2]
