How to book a Qatar Airways Doha stopover
Qatar Stopover is Qatar Airways' stopover offering for a stay in Qatar, published in the airline's Visit Qatar section next to Experience Qatar, tours and activities, transit tours and airport transfers. [2] The same product appears in the site's Book menu as "Stopover in Qatar", with a link labelled "Explore packages". [2]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Qatar Airways lists Qatar Stopover inside its Visit Qatar pages and repeats it as "Stopover in Qatar" with an "Explore packages" link in the Book menu. [2]
- A Doha stopover runs through Hamad International Airport, where Qatar Airways operates its own lounges and also sells lounge access. [2] [4]
- Lounge eligibility at that airport is set by cabin, Privilege Club tier or oneworld status, and each rule names the flights it covers. [4]
- Privilege Club keeps two currencies: Avios for award flights, upgrades and part-payment, and Qpoints for moving up tiers. [2]
What is the Qatar Stopover?
Qatar Airways keeps its stopover material in one part of the site: the Explore menu groups Qatar Stopover with Experience Qatar, Tours & activities, Transit Tours and Qatar Airport Transfers. [2] The Book menu carries the same idea as "Stopover in Qatar", pointing to a page labelled "Explore packages". [2] Those pages are where Qatar Airways publishes the packages themselves. [2]
Because a Doha stopover is built around a journey that touches Hamad International Airport, the airport's own services belong to the trip: Qatar Airways runs at-the-airport pages for Hamad International Airport, the Oryx Airport Hotel, Qatar Duty Free and its lounges. [2] For the wider category of airline stopover products, see the airline stopover programme entry.
Where can you wait at Hamad International Airport?
Qatar Airways describes its Hamad International Airport lounges as surroundings that rival those of a five-star hotel, and lists the Al Safwa First Lounge for First Class passengers, the Al Mourjan Business Lounge, Al Mourjan Business Lounge – The Garden in the airport's northern expansion, and Privilege Club lounges for Silver, Gold and Platinum members. [4]
The premium lounges are open to these travellers, on these flights: [4]
| Traveller | What Qatar Airways states |
|---|---|
| Premium Class customers | Access to the premium lounge facilities |
| Privilege Club Platinum, Gold and Silver members | Access when travelling on Qatar Airways |
| oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members | Access when travelling on any oneworld flight |
| Purchased access | Lounge access can be bought for an upcoming trip |
The Al Mourjan lounge has its own page in this guide set, Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge, and the airport-wide picture is covered in Doha Hamad Airport lounges.
What does Privilege Club add to a stopover trip?
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is the airline's frequent flyer programme, and it runs on two currencies: Avios, which are spent on award flights, upgrades and part-payment through Cash + Avios, and Qpoints, which are collected when flying and move a member up the tiers. [2] Avios are earned with Qatar Airways, oneworld airlines and partner airlines. [2] Members can also buy, gift or transfer Avios, and can link a Visa or Mastercard to collect Avios through card-linked offers. [2]
The programme has four tiers: Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum. [2] The tier benefits Qatar Airways lists for the three higher tiers are: [2]
| Tier | Tier bonus on eligible flights | Extra baggage allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | 25% | 15 kg, or one additional piece |
| Gold | 75% | 20 kg, or one additional piece |
| Platinum | 100% | 25 kg, or two additional pieces |
Gold members receive 40 Qcredits and Platinum members 60 Qcredits to redeem for upgrades, excess baggage and more. [2] Burgundy benefits listed by the airline include free Starlink Wi-Fi on board, paying with Avios at Qatar Duty Free, 10% off Al Maha Meet and Assist services and lounges, and 15% off Oryx Airport Hotel spa, Hydrojet and golf simulator services. [2]
How do families pool Avios?
Privilege Club runs two separate sharing features. Family & Friends lets a Main Member nominate up to nine people so that all Avios collected are pooled into the Main Member's account, with a six-month lock-in period for each new group member and redemption rights held only by the Main Member. [6] Children over two years can be included in a group, infants cannot, and group members earn base Avios only. [6]
My List is a different tool: a member can name up to four individuals and redeem Avios for award flights for them, and invitations are limited to adults aged 18 or above. [5] A member who is already in a Family & Friends group cannot be added to a My List. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- Lounge rules are flight-specific: Privilege Club Silver, Gold and Platinum members qualify when travelling on Qatar Airways, while oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members qualify when travelling on any oneworld flight. [4]
- Family & Friends group members earn base Avios only, without the bonus Avios that follows from the Main Member's tier, and their flight and non-flight activity does not earn Qpoints. [6]
- Early removal from a Family & Friends group before the lock-in period ends needs Qatar Airways' approval, and the vacated slot stays unavailable for six months from the original enrolment date. [6]
- For My List, a member can belong to only one list at a time, and a Burgundy, Silver, Gold or Platinum member can create one only if the Privilege Club account was opened at least 30 days earlier. [5]
- Under the Family & Friends terms, Qatar Airways and its partners do not guarantee the availability or continuity of any offer or other benefit, which can be varied from time to time. [6]
