How to use the Doha Hamad Airport lounges

Doha Hamad Airport lounges are the Qatar Airways lounges at Hamad International Airport (DOH), which include the Al Safwa First Lounge, the Al Mourjan Business Lounge and the airline's Privilege Club member lounges. Which one you can enter depends on the cabin you fly and, separately, on your oneworld tier status. [3] [4]

Key takeaways

  • oneworld publishes which Qatar Airways lounge at Doha each eligible group can use: Al Safwa First Lounge for eligible first class passengers, Al Mourjan Business Lounges for eligible business class passengers, Platinum Lounges for eligible oneworld Emerald members travelling in economy, and Gold Lounges for eligible oneworld Sapphire members travelling in economy. [3]
  • To use the oneworld policy you must be departing on a flight that is both marketed and operated by a oneworld member airline, and access is given at the airport from which that flight departs on the day of travel or before 06:00 the following day. [3]
  • Qatar Airways “Business Lite” fares are not eligible for lounge access. [3]

Which lounges are at Hamad International Airport?

Qatar Airways describes its Hamad International Airport lounges as surroundings that rival those of a five-star hotel, and names the Al Safwa First Lounge, whose features are designed for First Class passengers, alongside the Al Mourjan Business Lounge. [4] A second Al Mourjan space, Al Mourjan Business Lounge – The Garden, is described as located in the airport's northern expansion and aimed at premium passengers. [4]

On top of the premium cabins' lounges, Qatar Airways lists Privilege Club member lounges: Platinum & Gold Lounges located throughout the airport, and a Silver Lounge. [4] The airline says Silver, Gold and Platinum tier members can enjoy exclusive lounge access to its Privilege Club lounges. [4] The same page also lists First and Business Class arrival lounges and a separate Al Maha lounges entry, plus a Mariner Lounge described as dedicated to seafarers. [4] It includes an option to purchase lounge access at Hamad International Airport. [4]

Who can use the lounges with oneworld status?

The oneworld alliance publishes a list of Qatar Airways lounges at Doha for passengers travelling on flights that are both operated and marketed by a oneworld member airline. [3]

Published lounge eligibility at Doha (DOH) under the oneworld policy
LoungeWho is listed as eligible
Al Safwa First LoungeEligible first class passengers [3]
Al Mourjan Business LoungesEligible business class passengers [3]
Platinum LoungesEligible oneworld Emerald members travelling in economy class [3]
Gold LoungesEligible oneworld Sapphire members travelling in economy class [3]

Across the network, oneworld Emerald tier travellers can use First Class, Business Class or frequent flyer lounges on eligible flights, while Sapphire tier travellers are welcomed in Business Class or frequent flyer lounges, with the policy's stated exception of Qantas Domestic Business Lounges. [3] Those tier entitlements apply regardless of the cabin class being flown, as long as the member departs on any flight marketed and operated by a oneworld member airline. [3] The wider rules, including which tickets and connections qualify, are set out in the oneworld lounge access guide. [3]

Qatar Airways' own page frames the same idea from the airline's side: Premium Class customers and Privilege Club Platinum, Gold and Silver members travelling on Qatar Airways, as well as oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members travelling on any oneworld flight, can enjoy premium lounge facilities at airports around the world. [4] The oneworld list for Doha assigns the Platinum Lounges to Emerald members and the Gold Lounges to Sapphire members travelling in economy. [3]

What do cabin class and fare rules change?

Customers flying First or Business Class with any oneworld member airline have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. [3] If a First Class lounge is not available, First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge instead. [3] A First Class passenger may invite one guest, who must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline. [3]

Two fare types are named as not eligible for lounge access under the policy: Qatar Airways “Business Lite” fares and Finnair “Business Light” fares. [3] For connections, First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 06:00 the following day, can use the lounge when moving between an international long haul flight and an international short haul or domestic flight, in either direction. [3] A oneworld international long haul flight is defined in the policy as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than five hours. [3] Access is then determined by the international long haul ticketed flight, and passengers must be ready to show a boarding pass for First or Business Class travel on that long haul sector. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Guest allowance. Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest into the lounge, and that guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld carrier; members should be prepared to show their boarding pass and a frequent flyer membership card with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status. [3]
  • Children. Infants under 2 years are not counted as a guest when travelling with an eligible adult. [3] A child aged 2 to 11 travelling as an unaccompanied minor who is eligible for lounge access must be accompanied by an adult, who counts as their guest, while a young passenger aged 12 to 17 does not need an accompanying adult unless local law requires it. [3]
  • Arrivals and excluded facilities. Arrivals lounges are excluded from the oneworld policy, as are spa and pre-flight dining facilities. [3] Qatar Airways separately lists First and Business Class arrival lounges at Hamad. [4] British Airways' Concorde lounges are also excluded from the oneworld policy. [3]
  • Paid lounge programmes. Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Qantas run programmes that let customers pay for access to their own lounges; these are not part of the oneworld agreement, and members of those programmes are not entitled to access lounges under it. [3]
  • Capacity. Some lounges may get busy at peak times, and access to them may be restricted as a result. [3]
  • Age and alcohol rules. Some lounges provide self-service alcohol, and local liquor laws may restrict entry for individuals under a certain age — the policy gives Japan as 12 to 19 years and the United States as possibly up to 21 years. [3]
