How to earn Avios with Qatar Airways Privilege Club
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is the frequent flyer programme of Qatar Airways, and Avios is the reward currency members collect when they fly Qatar Airways, oneworld airlines or airline partners, and when they spend with non-airline partners. [1] On flights, the number of Avios depends on the booking class of the marketing carrier and on the member's tier, and Avios are awarded on the fare purchased rather than the cabin actually flown. [2]

Key takeaways
- Privilege Club lists five flight combinations that earn Avios, covering Qatar Airways, oneworld carriers and airline partners. [2]
- Flight earning is based on the booking class of the marketing carrier and your membership tier, not on the cabin you sit in. [2]
- Avios can also be collected with more than 100 global partners across banking, hotels, car rental, retail and payment cards. [1]
- Avios expire after 36 consecutive months without accrual or redemption activity. [2]
Where can you earn Avios with Qatar Airways Privilege Club?
Privilege Club awards Avios on five combinations of marketing and operating carrier, set out in its terms and conditions. [2]
| Flight | Earns Avios | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Marketed and operated by Qatar Airways | Yes | Rate set by booking class and tier; a tier bonus may apply. [2] |
| Marketed by Qatar Airways, operated by an airline partner or a codeshare airline | Yes | Credited only after you have travelled. [2] |
| Marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier | Yes | Rate set by booking class and tier. [2] |
| Marketed and operated by the same airline partner that is not a oneworld carrier | Yes | Applies where the marketing and operating carrier are the same partner airline. [2] |
| Marketed by an airline partner, operated by Qatar Airways | Yes | Rate set by booking class and tier. [2] |
The alliance named in these rules is oneworld, which Qatar Airways joined on 30 October 2013. [2] In every case Avios are calculated on the fare purchased, not on the actual class of service flown, so an operational upgrade does not change the earning basis. [2]
How much Avios do you earn, and when are they credited?
For Qatar Airways and airline partner flights, the number of Avios per flight depends on the booking class of the marketing carrier and on your membership tier, or on the Main Member's tier if you are a group member of the Family & Friends Programme. [2] You must give your correct full name, date of birth and membership number when booking in order to earn. [2]
A tier bonus may be added on flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways, depending on your tier at the time of the flight; it is calculated on the actual distance flown and credited only after travel. [2] Privilege Club has four tiers — Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum — and new members begin at Burgundy. [2]
Timing differs by carrier. Avios for Qatar Airways' own marketed and operated flights are credited after check-in formalities are completed and up to 120 minutes before departure, or after travel, as applicable. [2] Avios for eligible airline partner flights are credited only after you have travelled. [2]
How do you earn Avios with non-air partners and linked accounts?
Beyond flights, Privilege Club says members can earn with more than 100 global partners, grouped as airlines, banks and finance, hotels, car rental, retail and lifestyle, oneworld airlines and payment cards. [1] For non-air partners, the number of Avios depends on the earning criteria agreed between Qatar Airways and that partner, and Avios are credited only once you have paid in full and met all other earning criteria. [2]
A flight or transaction cannot earn in two programmes: if it is already credited to another loyalty programme, it does not earn Avios, and Qatar Airways reserves the right to deduct Avios credited twice. [2]
Privilege Club accounts can also be linked with British Airways Executive Club accounts, and once linked, Avios can be moved in either direction at 1:1 with no fee and no minimum or maximum, under terms effective 29 January 2025. [6] Linking becomes available 30 days after account creation, the personal details on both accounts must match, and a Privilege Club account can be linked at most twice in any 50-year period. [6] Only the Main Member of a Privilege Club family group can move Avios to a linked Executive Club account. [6]
Exceptions and limits
- Tickets that do not earn. Award tickets issued with Avios or an equivalent in another programme earn nothing. [2] The same applies to lost, refunded, forfeited, unused or expired tickets and to any ticket discounted over published rates, including free, charter, complimentary, agent and travel-industry discount, airline staff travel, rebate and prize tickets. [2]
- Cancellations, infants and extras. Cancelled flights, and flights transferred to another airline because of a Force Majeure Event, do not earn, and neither do tickets bought to carry extra baggage or provide extra space. [2] Infants under two years of age do not earn Avios. [2]
- Date of birth mismatch. A flight does not earn if the date of birth on the booking or ticket differs from the date of birth in your account. [2]
- Family pooling. A Main Member can invite up to nine people into a Family & Friends group, and all Avios they earn are added to the Main Member's account after travel is completed. [5] Group members earn only base Avios, with no tier-based bonus, and their flight and non-flight activity does not earn Qpoints. [5] Children over two may join the group; infants are not permitted. [5]
- Expiry. By default, all Avios expire if there is no accrual or redemption activity for 36 consecutive months. [2] Each earn or spend keeps the balance valid for a further 36 months. [1] Expired Avios can be revalidated for a non-refundable fee within one year, and revalidated Avios are then valid for 36 months. [2] Purchased, gifted, boosted and transferred Avios are valid for three years. [2]
- Missing Avios. Claims for Qatar Airways or airline partner flights must be submitted online within six months of the travel date, while claims for non-air partner transactions go to the partner within six months unless it says otherwise. [2] New members may claim for flights taken up to 90 days before their membership began. [2]
Frequently asked questions
Do Qatar Airways award tickets earn Avios?
No. Award tickets issued using Avios, or an equivalent in another loyalty programme, are excluded from earning. [2]
Do oneworld partner flights earn Avios before departure?
Flights marketed and operated by a oneworld carrier earn Avios based on booking class and tier, but Avios on airline partner flights are credited only after you have travelled. [2]
Can family members pool their Avios into one account?
Yes. In a Family & Friends group of up to nine invited members, all Avios earned are added to the Main Member's account, but group members earn base Avios only and no tier bonus. [5]
Can I move Privilege Club Avios to British Airways Executive Club?
Yes, if the two accounts are linked. Avios move at 1:1, with no fee and no minimum or maximum, and both accounts must have matching personal details. [6]
