Key takeaways

  • Membership is free, and the program is open to individuals aged 2 years and over; for minors, parental authorization or legal guardianship is required where applicable [1].
  • You register online on the Safar Flyer website, or with a paper form available at Royal Air Maroc agencies that you sign and return to the airline [1].
  • Registering does not create status by itself: the Blue card is granted automatically after the first Royal Air Maroc flight is credited to the account [1].
  • Only one registration per member is accepted, and where duplicates exist Royal Air Maroc keeps the oldest account [1].

Who can join Safar Flyer?

Royal Air Maroc's general conditions open the program to individuals aged 2 years and over, adding that for minors parental authorization, or legal guardianship, is required if applicable [1]. Legal persons or groups of people cannot participate, and employees and managers of all airlines, travel agencies and tour operators cannot benefit from the advantages of the program [1]. The airline also reserves the right to refuse the membership of anyone who does not meet the participation criteria set out in the document or the regulatory criteria that apply to the program [1].

An applicant guarantees that the information given to Safar Flyer is accurate and is solely responsible for identification details that are erroneous, incomplete or out of date; Royal Air Maroc may check account information at any time, and the member undertakes to supply the information required [1].

Families and companies enroll through separate products rather than an individual account: Safar Family groups the miles of different family members in one account, and Safar Flyer Corporate exists for companies, each with its own adhesion conditions [1].

How do you enroll in Safar Flyer?

Any eligible person who wants to join registers directly online on the Safar Flyer website, or fills out a paper application form available at Royal Air Maroc agencies, signs it and returns it to the airline [1]. On the US English version of royalairmaroc.com, Safar Flyer appears in the main navigation with a Sign Up / Join link, together with help entries such as "Get my card number" and "Forgot my pin" [2].

Applying settles two things at once: the applicant is deemed to have read and accepted the terms and conditions, and only one registration per member is accepted [1]. The membership number is the number the member receives when registering for the program online, or the one printed on the temporary membership card in paper format [1].

Joining also sets two defaults. The member agrees to receive Safar Flyer communications that form part of the program, such as account balance, threshold reminders and miles expiry notices, and authorizes Royal Air Maroc to process personal data in order to operate the program [1].

After enrollment, miles are credited only where the member has given their full name and membership number at booking and ticketing and before using any service with Royal Air Maroc or its airline and non-airline partners [1]. If an activity is missing from the account, the member has to request retroactive credit within six months, following the procedure published on the Safar Flyer website [1].

Does joining or keeping membership cost anything?

Royal Air Maroc's terms state that membership in the Safar Flyer program is free [1]. The prices set out in the same document attach to optional services rather than to enrollment or to holding an account. The first is Status Booster, a quarterly subscription to Status Miles Booster x2 or x3 that doubles or triples Status Miles on eligible flights taken during the chosen quarter, for a fee payable in Euros; every member can subscribe whatever their card status, and flights taken before the subscription's effective date do not qualify [1].

The second is the purchase of Award Miles, sold in increments of 1,000 at 0.30 MAD per mile, subject to variations based on the local exchange rate [1]. The annual and per-transaction caps depend on status: Blue members may buy up to 3,000 miles per transaction with a limit of 30,000 Award Miles per calendar year, Silver, Gold or Ambassador members up to 50,000 Award Miles per year, and Platinum members 100,000 Award Miles per year [1]. Safar Family and Corporate accounts are not eligible for this service, and the purchase is final and non-refundable [1].

What happens after you join?

Registration does not produce status by itself. The definitions in the general conditions describe Blue as the basic status, granted automatically after the effective credit of the first flight made on Royal Air Maroc, and say that membership is effective from the date of the first flight made by the member and recorded on the Safar Flyer account [1]. The Blue card is valid for life, while the Silver, Gold and Platinum cards are valid until the expiry date shown on them [1].

An account holds two mile currencies: Award Miles, which are used for rewards, and Status Miles, which determine the card level and are counted within a calendar year running from 1 January to 31 December [4]. Award Miles have a limited life that depends on the type of account, as set out below.

Award Miles validity by account type
Account typeValidity of Award Miles
Individual Blue, Silver or Gold3 years from the activity date; miles from an activity recorded in year N expire on 31 December of year N+3, without exception or extension [1] [4]
Individual Platinum5 years from the activity date, but this five-year validity applies only to miles credited as Platinum status; miles earned before qualifying for Platinum remain valid for 3 years [1]
Safar Family5 years from the activity date [1] [4]
Safar Flyer Corporate2 years from the activity date [1] [4]

The card is personal and not assignable: only the member named on it may use it or communicate the membership number, and a lost, stolen or damaged card must be reported to Safar Flyer immediately [1]. Silver, Gold and Platinum members also get status recognition on flights marketed and operated by other oneworld airlines according to the corresponding oneworld status, and must present their card and quote their membership number when booking with those airlines [1].

Exceptions and limits

  • Duplicate accounts. Where a member has registered twice, the member must report it, only the oldest account is kept, and miles possibly accumulated on the most recent account are credited to it, with the exception of rewards already credited on the old account [1].
  • Inactivity. Royal Air Maroc reserves the right to exclude a member, cancel the account and confiscate all accumulated miles with immediate effect if the member does not earn miles for 24 consecutive months, or does not provide proof of identity on request within one month [1].
  • Closing your own account. A member may terminate membership by notifying Royal Air Maroc in writing; the accumulated miles are then canceled, the account is closed, and miles accumulated up to that point are confiscated and lose all value [1].
  • Which text governs. The general conditions are published in French and English, the French version prevails where the two diverge, they are applicable from 04/01/2020, and Moroccan law applies with disputes going to the courts of Casablanca [1]. The terms are subject to change without prior notice, and amendments posted on the Safar Flyer website become mandatory for all members [1].
  • Scope of this page. Everything here describes enrollment in the Safar Flyer program as published by Royal Air Maroc; Safar Family and Safar Flyer Corporate have their own adhesion conditions, and the rules of other airlines' programs do not apply to Safar Flyer [1].
