PROGRAMME PROFILE
Royal Air Maroc Safar Flyer
Safar Flyer is the loyalty programme of Royal Air Maroc, the Moroccan flag carrier and oneworld member. Members collect two separate currencies: Award Miles, which are spent on award tickets, upgrades and extra baggage, and Status Miles, which decide whether the card is Blue, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Miles are credited on Royal Air Maroc flights, on oneworld partner flights and through non-airline partners. [1] [4] [5]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Safar Flyer keeps two mile balances: Award Miles pay for awards, while only Status Miles move a member between Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. [4]
- Award Miles on an individual Blue, Silver or Gold account run to 31 December of the third year after the activity, with no extension stated. [5]
- Every tier threshold is measured over a calendar year and includes a minimum earned on flights marketed and operated by Royal Air Maroc itself. [3] [6]
- Silver is described as oneworld Ruby and Gold as oneworld Sapphire. [6] [3]
Two balances and four cards
Joining is free and open to individuals aged 2 and over; minors need parental authorisation, legal persons and groups cannot join, and airline employees, travel agencies and tour operators are excluded from the benefits. [5] Only one account per member is kept, and where duplicates exist the oldest account survives. [5] The Blue card is credited automatically once a member's first Royal Air Maroc flight is recorded. [5] Blue is valid for life, while Silver, Gold and Platinum cards carry an expiry date and are renewed annually. [5]
Each account holds two balances that do different jobs. Award Miles are redeemed for award tickets, upgrades, extra baggage and the other awards the programme lists; Status Miles are the ones that set the card level. [4] Status Miles are counted within a calendar year running from 1 January to 31 December. [4]
Award Miles last three years from the activity date on an individual Blue, Silver or Gold account, five years on an individual Platinum account, five years on a Safar Family account and two years on a Corporate account. [4] The general conditions put the same rule as a calendar cut-off: miles for an activity registered in year N on a Blue, Silver or Gold account expire on 31 December of year N+3 “without exception or extension”. [5] They add that the five-year window covers only miles credited while the member holds Platinum; miles earned before that keep the three-year limit. [5]
Where miles come from
Miles can be credited from flights operated and marketed by Royal Air Maroc, from code-share flights under the AT code, from flights marketed by Royal Air Maroc and operated by a oneworld partner or the reverse, from flights operated and marketed by a oneworld partner, and from non-airline partners. [5] The earning page adds Etihad Airways and S7 Airlines to the airline list for Award Miles [4], while the alliance's member page records that S7's oneworld membership has been suspended since 19 April 2022. [2]
The size of a credit depends on the distance flown, on the booking class as booked, paid and billed rather than the cabin actually travelled, and on the member's status. [5] A minimum number of Miles is awarded for flights under 500 Miles, and a flight taken on an upgrade credits 100% of the miles for the journey. [5] The published rates by fare family on Royal Air Maroc flights are: [4]
| Cabin and fare family | Award Miles | Status Miles |
|---|---|---|
| Economy, Eco Essential | 50% | 50% |
| Economy, Eco Classic | 100% | 100% |
| Economy, Eco Flex | 150% | 150% |
| Economy, X (award ticket) | 0% | 0% |
| Economy, U (upgrade award) | Earns according to the Economy fare family | |
| Business, Business Classic | 150% | 150% |
| Business, Business Flex | 200% | 200% |
| Business, U (award ticket) | 0% | 0% |
| Business, Cash & Miles | 0% | 0% |
On top of the fare-family rate, Silver members receive 50% additional Award Miles on eligible flights operated and marketed by Royal Air Maroc — a bonus the Silver page says also applies to American Airlines flights — and Gold members receive 75%. [6] The general conditions describe these status bonuses as non-qualifying. [5]
Several tickets earn nothing: travel on award tickets, and unused, confiscated, fraudulent, lost, expired or refunded tickets, are excluded [5], and a booking paid with Cash & Miles earns no miles at all. [4] [5] Miles are credited only for flights actually flown, a member can earn in one programme per flight or service, and a missing credit must be claimed within six months. [5]
Tiers and oneworld status
Thresholds are met with Status Miles or status flights taken between 1 January and 31 December. [6] Silver needs 20,000 Status Miles or 15 Status Flights, Gold 35,000 Status Miles or 30 Status Flights, and Platinum 75,000 Status Miles or 75 Status Flights. [6] [3] [5] Each level also requires part of the total on flights marketed and operated by Royal Air Maroc: at least 10,000 Status Miles and/or 2 flights for Silver, 17,500 and/or 10 for Gold, and 37,500 and/or 20 for Platinum. [6] [3] [5]
Holding a card is a separate test from reaching it. Silver is kept with 18,000 Status Miles or 13 Status flights in the calendar year [6], and Gold with 32,000 Status Miles or 28 Royal Air Maroc flights, again subject to the Royal Air Maroc minimum. [3]
Royal Air Maroc is a oneworld member, and Silver, Gold and Platinum members receive status recognition on flights marketed and operated by other oneworld airlines according to their corresponding oneworld status, provided the card and membership number are given when booking. [5] The Silver page presents Silver as Ruby benefits on 15 oneworld member airlines, and the Gold page equates Gold with Sapphire. [6] [3] The alliance describes a network of more than 900 destinations in 170 territories [2], and the programme's conditions state that alliance benefits are provided by oneworld and the operating airline rather than by Royal Air Maroc. [5]
Members can also buy a Status Booster: a quarterly subscription that doubles or triples Status Miles on eligible Royal Air Maroc-marketed flights for a fee in Euros, with Award Miles excluded and flights taken before the subscription starts not counted. [5]
Spending, buying and transferring miles
Awards include award tickets, upgrades, extra baggage, date changes and an unaccompanied-minor award, all paid from the Award Miles balance. [4] [5] An award is valid for twelve months from issue unless a promotional offer says otherwise, and the oldest miles are debited first. [5] Seats are limited to the number each airline sets aside for the programme. [5] A date change on the same route is free once within the ticket's validity if made at least 48 hours before departure, a further change may attract a fee, and the beneficiary's name cannot be changed after issue. [5] All segments must be booked at the same time and the journey must be on routes operated by Royal Air Maroc or a Safar Flyer partner airline, and the member pays the taxes on the award. [5]
Cash & Miles allows a member to pay part of a Royal Air Maroc ticket in cash and part in Award Miles, with a minimum of 500 Award Miles, on flights operated and marketed by Royal Air Maroc; it cannot be used to pay for Safar Flyer awards. [5] In low season taxes and surcharges sit inside the miles portion, while in peak season the member pays all taxes in cash. [5]
Award Miles can be bought at 0.30 MAD per mile in steps of 1,000, capped at 30,000 a year for Blue members, 50,000 for Silver and Gold and 100,000 for Platinum, and the purchase is final. [5] Transfers between members are free, need at least 4,000 Award Miles on both sides and a record of flights on each profile, run in 1,000-mile steps and cannot be reversed; Blue members get two transfers and 10,000 miles a year, Silver and Gold five transfers, and Platinum no annual cap. [5] Safar Family and Corporate accounts cannot buy miles, and Corporate accounts cannot transfer them. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- The Gold pages and the general conditions disagree on the flight count: the Gold and Silver benefit pages give 30 Status Flights [3] [6], while the general conditions give 35 qualifying flights. [5] Both give 35,000 Status Miles. [3] [5]
- Expiry on individual Blue, Silver and Gold accounts is stated to have no exception or extension, and miles that have already expired are not returned when an award is cancelled. [5]
- Separately from expiry, Royal Air Maroc may close an account and confiscate its miles if the member does not earn miles for 24 consecutive months. [5]
- Family accounts keep miles for five years and Corporate accounts for two, against three for an individual Blue, Silver or Gold account, and both are excluded from buying miles. [4] [5]
- Miles from hotel, car-rental and other non-airline partners follow each partner's own conditions, and Royal Air Maroc directs complaints about them to the partner concerned. [5]
- Royal Air Maroc reserves the right to change earning rules, thresholds, award prices and the partner list without notice, and to end the programme with three months' notice. [5]
