How to earn Shangri-La Circle status: tiers and perks

Shangri-La Circle is the frequent-guest programme of Shangri-La Group, and it gives every new member Gold status as soon as they enrol [3]. From there a member reaches Jade at 20 Qualifying Nights or 6,000 Tier Points, and Diamond at 50 Qualifying Nights or 15,000 Tier Points, within a calendar-year Membership Year [3].

Key takeaways

  • Enrolment brings Gold automatically, and Gold is the programme's entry tier, so nobody starts at zero status [3].
  • Jade needs 20 Qualifying Nights or 6,000 Tier Points in a Membership Year; Diamond needs 50 Qualifying Nights or 15,000 Tier Points [3].
  • Only nights paid at a Qualifying Room Rate and booked through a Shangri-La reservation channel count; stays booked through online travel agents earn neither Points nor programme benefits [3].
  • Jade and Diamond members earn 25% and 50% bonus Points respectively on eligible spend and can carry surplus Qualifying Nights into the next Membership Year [3].

What are the Shangri-La Circle tiers and thresholds?

Shangri-La Circle, formerly Golden Circle, is open to individuals aged 18 and above, and successful enrolment brings automatic Gold membership [3]. The programme sets three tiers — Gold, Jade and Diamond — with Gold as the entry level [3]. Its membership terms took effect on 28 April 2022 and carried the following thresholds as of 18 October 2026 [3].

Qualifying Nights or Tier Points needed to upgrade or renew [3]
TierQualifying NightsTier Points
Diamond50 [3]15,000 [3]
Jade20 [3]6,000 [3]

Gold has no threshold: every member receives it on enrolment [3]. A Membership Year runs from 1 January to 31 December, and earned Qualifying Nights and Tier Points reset to zero on 1 January of the following year [3]. Upgrades come from enough Qualifying Nights or enough Tier Points, never a combination of the two, and a member moves only one tier at a time [3]. A tier gained through an upgrade stays valid until 31 December of the next calendar year [3].

Tier Points accrue on Qualifying Room Rates booked through a Qualifying Room Reservation Channel, on Qualifying Incidental Charges and on Qualifying Spend at Participating Hotels, and bonus Points are excluded from the Tier Point count [3]. The 15,000 Tier Point route to Diamond corresponds to qualifying spend at participating hotels [3].

How do you earn Qualifying Nights and Tier Points?

The rate matters. A Qualifying Room Rate is a published rate of a Participating Hotel found on the Shangri-La Circle website or booked through a qualifying channel; the terms list Rack Rate, Flexible Rate, BonusChoice, Book Early and Save, CustomStay, hotel packages, negotiated corporate rates, convention or meeting rates, Long Stay Rate and the Room Awards Redemption Rate among them [3]. Prepaid wholesale rates, wholesale packages, groups and tours, airline and travel-industry discounts, airline crew rates and residences or serviced apartments fall outside that definition [3]. Qualifying Nights are room nights at a Participating Hotel paid at those rates [3].

The channel matters too. Qualifying channels are Shangri-La's own website, mobile app and WeChat Mini Programme, its official telephone reservation hotlines and the hotels directly [3]. Third-party platforms and online travel agents such as Expedia, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Ctrip and Fliggy are not qualifying channels, and a stay booked through another channel earns no Points and carries no programme benefits [3].

Multiple rooms and overlapping stays. When a member settles the bill for several rooms, only the room they physically occupy produces Qualifying Nights towards status, while Tier Points from up to three rooms count provided the member occupies one of them [3]. If stays at different hotels overlap, only one of them is counted towards upgrade or renewal [3]. No-show and cancelled room nights earn neither Qualifying Nights nor Tier Points [3].

Events. Event planners earn Tier Points at one per US$5 of Qualifying Event Spend, where a Qualifying Event means 10 or more paid rooms at an Event Qualifying Room Rate for at least one night, or a minimum Eligible Event Charge of US$3,000 [3].

What do Jade and Diamond members get over Gold?

The published tier benefits focus on how quickly Points build and how long status survives [3]. Jade members earn 25% bonus Points and Diamond members 50% on Points earned on Qualifying Room Rates and Qualifying Incidental Charges during a stay, and on Qualifying Spend during a non-hotel visit [3]. The same 25% and 50% bonuses apply to Points earned on additional rooms a member settles, and to Qualifying Spend at Shangri-La Boutique [3]. Since bonus Points are excluded from Tier Points, these bonuses grow award balances rather than status progress [3]. Stays booked at a Qualifying Room Rate through a Qualifying Room Reservation Channel also carry the tier-specific privileges the programme attaches to a stay [3].

Rollover Nights. Jade and Diamond members may keep surplus Qualifying Nights — nights beyond what is needed to upgrade or renew — and carry them into the following Membership Year only [3]. Surplus nights carried from a previous year are cancelled once the member accumulates enough nights in the current year to upgrade or renew, and any leftovers are wiped when carried-over nights are used for a renewal [3]. Tier Points do not roll over, and Points bought from the programme do not count towards tier upgrades [3].

Beyond tier status, the group markets member offers such as mobile check-in and check-out, children eating free and earning free nights to anyone who joins [2].

Where does Shangri-La Circle status apply?

Participating Hotels are Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, Kerry Hotels, JEN Hotels and Traders hotels, plus any other hotel published as participating [3]. The group describes more than 100 hotels and resorts across four distinct brands, in over 22 countries, regions and 76 destinations [2].

The terms then carve out individual venues rather than treating every address the same way. Shangri-La Zhoushan and all Shangri-La serviced apartments and residences are non-participating [3]. A published list also removes named restaurants and bars from programme benefits [3]. Two of those outlets keep partial participation: Beng Hiang at Shangri-La Singapore and Dian Voyage Yunnan Cuisine at Shangri-La Kunming are listed as eligible for earning Points and Tier Points and for redeeming Instant Redemption Awards only [3]. Participating spa outlets are listed separately, and the programme reserves the right to amend the list of participating outlets without prior notice [3].

What limits apply to Shangri-La Circle status?

  • Eligibility. Membership is open to individuals aged 18 and above, there is no enrolment fee, membership is personal and non-transferable, and a person may hold one account at a time [3].
  • Inactivity. An account inactive for a continuous 36 months is closed if it is not reactivated through a qualifying stay or spend within 12 months from the date it became inactive [3].
  • Missing credit. A claim for missing Points is accepted only if the membership number was quoted at reservation and the card presented at check-in, and only within six months of the transaction date [3].
  • Changing rules. The programme reserves the right to change the qualifying criteria for upgrades and renewal at any time without prior notice, and interpretation of the terms rests with the company [3].
  • Venue level. Benefits and tier credit depend on the individual hotel, outlet or residence being a participating venue, so a stay at a listed non-participating venue or in a serviced apartment does not follow the general rule [3].

Frequently asked questions

Do you get Shangri-La Circle Gold status just by joining?

Yes. Successful enrolment brings automatic Gold membership, and Gold is the entry tier of the programme [3].

How many nights do you need for Shangri-La Circle Jade or Diamond?

Jade requires 20 Qualifying Nights or 6,000 Tier Points, and Diamond requires 50 Qualifying Nights or 15,000 Tier Points within a Membership Year [3].

Can you reach Diamond by mixing nights and Tier Points?

No. An upgrade comes from either enough Qualifying Nights or enough Tier Points, not a combination, and members progress only one tier at a time [3].

Do stays booked on Booking.com or Expedia count towards status?

No. Those platforms are not Qualifying Room Reservation Channels, so the stay earns no Points and carries no programme benefits [3].

How long does an upgraded tier last?

An upgraded tier is valid until 31 December of the following calendar year, and Jade and Diamond members can carry surplus Qualifying Nights into the next Membership Year [3].
