How do you earn Miles&Smiles miles on Turkish Airlines flights?

For Turkish Airlines-operated flights, the published route to the number of Miles is the Turkish Airlines flight-earning page and Miles calculator. [2] [3] The terms say the number of Miles a member can earn depends on when the Miles are earned and on the conditions of the programme. [2]

Status Miles are earned by flying Turkish Airlines and other partner airlines, excluding chartered flights and flights made free of charge. [2] Turkish Airlines reserves the right to fully or partially exclude certain fares, payment and/or passenger categories from Miles&Smiles with reasonable prior notice. [2]

Members should quote their membership number when booking, and a membership card may be requested at check-in so that Miles are credited automatically. [2] The terms list 1,000 Welcome Miles after a member's first flight with Turkish Airlines or another Star Alliance member airline. [2]

How do you earn Miles&Smiles miles on partner flights?

On flights with other Star Alliance member airlines, flights may be operated as codeshares, and Miles can be earned on codeshares operated by Star Alliance member airlines or other Miles&Smiles partner airlines. Which credit cards and other partners earn Miles&Smiles miles?

The international terms name Miles&Smiles co-branded credit cards with Garanti Bank, QNB Finansbank and Kuveyt Türk as a way to earn Miles on purchases. [2] The US programme page features the Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles Premier Visa Signature card, issued by First Electronic Bank under a licence from Visa USA. [3]

Members can also earn Miles through programme partners for products and services, and the terms refer to Miles from hotel stays and car rentals. [3] [2] Miles&Smiles campaigns can add extra Miles beyond the base earning channels. [3]

Bonus Miles are separate from Status Miles: Bonus Miles may only be exchanged for awards and do not count toward Classic Plus, Elite or Elite Plus qualification. [2]

How are Miles&Smiles miles credited and how long do they last?

Earned Miles are credited automatically to a member's account; while making a reservation, a member's Miles&Smiles membership number is requested, and it may be necessary to produce a membership card during check-in. [2]

The terms' clause on the processing of Miles says that Miles credited to a member's account cannot be transferred to another reward scheme account, and the personal Miles account clause says that, apart from the "Family Membership" feature available under the Classic Plus Elite and Elite Plus membership classes, Miles and Miles accounts may not be transferred. [2] A separate "Transfer of Miles" section of the same terms states that all Miles&Smiles members may transfer Miles, that there is no upper or lower limit on the number of Miles that can be transferred, and that all unused Miles may be transferred. [2]

For that transfer, the terms set the cost at USD 20 including VAT for every 1,000 Miles. Transferred Miles are immediately credited to the receiving member's account, are valid for three years after the transfer date and may be transferred again; they do not affect the membership status of the receiving party, and transferred Miles and transfer fees are non-refundable. [2]

If Miles are missing, a member may request retroactive credit for up to 12 months after the flight or service. [2] Some Star Alliance airlines set a different time limit or may not offer retroactive credit, in which case that airline's programme rules are used. [2]

Partner Miles are earned only from the start date of the agreement with that partner, and purchases made before that date are not credited retroactively. [2] Miles earned on flights, hotel stays and car rentals expire at 23:59 Türkiye local time at the end of the third full calendar year following processing, unless the programme states otherwise. [2] The US programme page states that Miles are valid for three years. [3]

Before expiry, a member may pay USD 20 for every 1,000 Miles that are about to expire to extend their validity by another three years. [2] Once Miles have expired, they cannot become valid again, and the terms say their validity will not be extended for any reason. [2] Miles must be used for ticketing before the expiry date; holding a reservation is not enough. [2]

What are the main exceptions and limits?

• Journeys made using award tickets do not earn any Miles. [2]
• Codeshare flights operated by airlines that are not Miles&Smiles partners do not earn Miles. [2]
