What is a Qantas Status Credit reset?

Key takeaways

  • Qantas states that Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year and are separate from Qantas Points. [1]
  • Qantas keeps a record of all Status Credits earned since joining [6], but footnote * on the Lifetime page limits the Lifetime thresholds to Status Credits earned for travel on eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar Group (JQ or GK) flight number within a Membership Year. [6] Separately, Qantas says Status Credits earned on the ground will count toward Lifetime Status. [5]
  • Qantas will allow up to 140 Status Credits a Membership Year from ground spending when the feature launches on 8 December 2026. [5]

How do Qantas Status Credits reset?

Qantas Frequent Flyer bases each member's Membership Year on the date the member joined the programme. [5] Status Credits reset at the start of each new Membership Year. [1] Qantas keeps a record of all the Status Credits a member has earned since joining the programme [6], and the Lifetime page lists separate thresholds for Lifetime Silver, Gold and Platinum. [6]

Footnote * on the Lifetime page states: “Only Status Credits earned for travel on eligible flights with a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar Group (JQ or GK) flight number within a Membership Year count towards the required threshold for this benefit.” [6] Separately, the ground-earning page says Status Credits earned on the ground will count toward Lifetime Status. [5]

Lifetime status is presented separately from current flying status: if a member's current flying status is higher than their Lifetime tier, the Lifetime benefits activate only once the higher status lapses. [6]

What caps and credit types does Qantas apply to status-earning credit?

Qantas Frequent Flyer will launch Status Credits on the ground on 8 December 2026 as a permanent feature, letting members earn up to 140 Status Credits each Membership Year by collecting Qantas Points across ten categories: credit cards, banking and home loans, insurance, car, home utilities, hotels and accommodation, holidays and experiences, everyday shopping, retail and lifestyle, and sustainability. [5] Status Credits are credited within eight weeks of a member completing a category. [5]

Not every point counts toward that ceiling. Credit or charge card rewards points transferred or converted into Qantas Points, bonus points from Qantas Points earning credit cards, points earned through a hotel loyalty programme outside Qantas Frequent Flyer, points from the Qantas Wellbeing app, Family Transfers, QBR Points Transfers, Top Up Points, and bonus or milestone rewards including Points Club, Green Tier, Platinum and Platinum One bonuses are excluded. [5]

Timing decides which year the activity lands in. For members whose Membership Year ends between 31 August and 30 November 2026, the eligible activity period is the next Membership Year; for Membership Years ending 31 December 2026 and beyond, it is the current Membership Year, including points earned before 8 December 2026. [5] All Qantas Frequent Flyer members are eligible, though a member's location may limit some ways of earning Qantas Points and therefore the full 140. [5] Qantas may change which earning activity is eligible at any time. [5]

What are tier points at The British Airways Club?

The British Airways Club uses tier points for tier progression. The page lists Blue as held from joining, Bronze at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500 and Gold at 20,000. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Not every flight earns. Qantas Status Credits are earned only on eligible Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld member and oneworld connect airlines, and may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. [1]
  • Ground credits are a partial credit. Status Credits earned on the ground count toward Lifetime Status but not toward Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward or Status Accelerator and Challenge earn requirements. [5]
  • Status Hold. Qantas names a Status Hold provision for families, saying that when a member is flying less it does not mean membership status has to change. [1]
  • Redeemable currency is separate. Status Credits differ from Qantas Points, although a member may earn both on the same flight. [1]
  • Lifetime timing. Lifetime recognition is awarded as soon as the required number of Status Credits has been earned and applies for life, subject to programme changes; if a member's current flying status is higher than their Lifetime tier, Lifetime benefits activate only once the higher status lapses. [6] The Lifetime threshold is subject to the flight-number restriction stated above. [6]
