Bilt Mastercard: rent rewards and transfer rules

Bilt Mastercard is the family of Bilt-branded Mastercard credit cards issued by Column N.A. for the Bilt Rewards programme, which lets members in the United States earn Bilt Points on rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt without a transaction fee. [1] [2]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The Bilt Mastercard line has three cards — Blue, Obsidian and Palladium — with annual fees of $0, $95 and $495. [1]
  • All three earn up to 1.25X Bilt Points on rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt, and Bilt says it charges no transaction fee on those housing payments. [1]
  • Bilt Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio to Bilt's airline and hotel partners. [1] [3]
  • Bilt Rewards is open only to legal residents of the 50 US states, the District of Columbia and US territories who are at least 18 and have reached the age of majority. [2]

How do you earn points on rent and mortgage payments?

Housing payments are routed through Bilt rather than paid straight to a landlord on the card. The charge is processed on the Bilt Card and paid off by a linked bank account within 24 hours, which keeps the credit line free for everyday spending. [1] A member can pay through a landlord's or mortgage servicer's portal, send the money by Venmo, or have Bilt issue a check through Bilt BillPay. [1] Bilt also provides account and routing numbers, so a cardholder can pay by ACH and avoid a fee the landlord charges for card payments. [1]

Earning on housing is not a flat rate. Under the Housing-only rewards option, the multiplier for each billing cycle depends on how much the cardholder spent on everyday purchases relative to the housing payment, and points post after the statement closes. [1]

The figures in the table are Bilt's own example, based on a $2,000 rent payment. [1]

The alternative is Flexible Bilt Cash, which unlocks up to 1X points on housing by redeeming Bilt Cash — a separate currency that Bilt says is earned at 4% back on everyday purchases, with every $30 of Bilt Cash redeemed converting to 1,000 Bilt Points. [1] Bilt Cash expires on 31 December of the year in which it was earned, and up to $100 carries over to the next year. [1]

There is no annual cap on housing payment amounts and no limit to the number of properties a member can pay through Bilt, so rent and a mortgage can be paid at the same time. [1] Only eligible residential mortgages are supported; commercial mortgages are not, and Bilt asks members to allow at least three business days for a servicer to receive a payment. [1]

What do the three Bilt Cards cost?

None of the three cards charges a transaction fee on rent, mortgage or HOA payments, and all three are listed with no foreign transaction fees. [1]

[1]

All three carry a 10% intro APR on new eligible purchases for 12 billing cycles after account opening, then a variable APR of 26.74%–34.74%. [1] The cards are issued by Column N.A., Member FDIC, under licence from Mastercard International Incorporated, with Cardless Inc. as the servicer. [1] Bilt says the published multipliers other than those on rent and mortgage include both the Bilt loyalty membership and the card's own multiplier. [1]

The five-transaction monthly minimum of the original Bilt Card does not apply to any Bilt Card 2.0 product, so earning on housing no longer depends on how many times the card is used in a month. [1]

Card spending also feeds Bilt Rewards elite status, which can be earned through Qualifying Points or through a Fast Track based on annual spend; a member receives the higher of the two results. [2] Status lasts for the rest of the earning calendar year, all of the following calendar year, and through 15 January of the year after that. [2]

Balance transfers, cash advances, gift cards, person-to-person payments and similar transactions do not count towards status, and neither do annual fees, interest or returned payment fees. [2]

How do Bilt Points transfer to airlines and hotels?

Bilt Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio to Bilt's travel partners. [1] Bilt's site lists 17 airline partners and seven hotel partners; the hotel list covers Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG Rewards Club, Accor Live Limitless, Wyndham Rewards and Preferred Hotels. [3] Among the airlines listed are United MileagePlus, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Rapid Rewards, British Airways Club, JAL Mileage Bank, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Aer Lingus Aerclub, TAP Miles&Go and Iberia Plus. [3] Bilt directs members to bilt.com/rewards for the complete and current partner list. [1]

Points can also be used to book travel through the Bilt Travel Portal, which Bilt says covers more than 500 airlines and 700,000 hotel properties. [3] They can also be redeemed for rent credit, Lyft rides, fitness partners, statement credits, eligible student loan payments and a contribution towards a home down payment. [1] Bilt says it releases limited-time benefits, including transfer bonuses, on the first day of each month under the Rent Day name. [3] Bilt's card page quotes The Points Guy's valuation of Bilt Points at 2.2 cents each and notes that value varies by redemption method. [1] For the mechanics that apply across currencies, see the points transfer terms.

Exceptions and limits

  • Points expiry. Bilt Points do not expire while an account is open and active, but Bilt says a member loses all points immediately if the account becomes inactive or is closed — including after 18 months without activity, on bankruptcy, or where Bilt believes the programme has been misused. [2] Rent and mortgage payments, qualified purchases on the card, redemptions and entry into Bilt promotional sweepstakes all count as activity. [2] Related reading: points expiry terms.
  • Bilt Cash. Balances expire on 31 December of the year in which they were earned, including amounts earned in November and December; up to $100 rolls over. [1]
  • Mortgage scope. Only eligible residential mortgages can be paid through Bilt. [1] For mortgage payments made through Bilt without a Bilt Card, points are earned per contractual mortgage payment, and payments submitted more than 30 days before the contractual due date are not eligible. [2]
  • Who can join. Bilt Rewards is limited to individuals who are legal residents of the 50 US states, the District of Columbia or US territories, are at least 18 and have reached the age of majority, and hold one account each; companies and groups cannot enrol. [2] Card approval is decided by Bilt's bank partner on credit profile, score, income, existing debt and credit history, and Bilt does not publish minimum score requirements; a declined applicant can apply again after 45 days. [1]
  • Changes to the programme. Bilt can change or cancel the programme; it gives 45 days' notice for changes such as adding or increasing fees, changing the earn rate, limiting how many points can be earned, changing bank partner or cancelling the programme, but not when it changes what points can be redeemed for. [2]

Frequently asked questions

Does the Bilt Mastercard charge a fee to pay rent?

Bilt says every Bilt Card earns rewards on rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt with no transaction fee, and that it supplies ACH details, Venmo integration or a check so a cardholder can avoid a landlord's card fee. [1]

How many Bilt Points do you earn on rent?

Up to 1.25X points per $1 under Housing-only rewards, with the rate set by everyday spending relative to the housing payment in each billing cycle; a member below the 25% threshold earns 250 points. [1]

Do Bilt Points expire?

Not while the account is open and active, but 18 months without qualifying activity makes the account inactive, and Bilt says all points are then lost immediately. [2]

Can you pay a mortgage with the Bilt Mastercard?

Yes, for eligible residential mortgages paid through Bilt; commercial mortgages are not supported, and Bilt asks for at least three business days for the servicer to receive the payment. [1]

What does the Bilt Palladium Card include?

A $495 annual fee, up to 5X on Bilt dining, 4X on hotels booked through Bilt Travel, 2X on everyday purchases, a $400 annual Bilt Travel hotel credit and Priority Pass membership. [1]
