[1] [3]

Key takeaways

  • The card pays 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 of combined spending each account anniversary year in travel, shipping, social media and search engine advertising, and internet, cable and phone services; after that it pays 1 point per $1 with no maximum. [1] [3]
  • It costs $95 a year, carries a variable APR of 17.99%–26.99%, and adds no foreign transaction fees. [1]
  • Points are Ultimate Rewards points: they can be taken as cash, gift cards or travel at one cent each, or moved to participating frequent travel programmes in 1,000-point increments. [3]
  • This is a business card, and the agreement restricts points to the company's business purposes rather than any individual's personal benefit. [3]

How do you earn points with the Chase Ink Business Preferred?

The card earns on purchases of products and services made with it by the cardholder or an authorised user, minus returns and refunds. [3] The 3-point rate applies to combined spending in four categories each account anniversary year, up to a shared limit, and spending past that limit returns to 1 point per $1. [1] [3]

An "account anniversary year" runs from the account open date to the first statement after the anniversary of that date, and then for each 12 billing cycles after it. [3] Points are earned at the close of each monthly billing cycle and are generally available at the start of the next one, though purchases made near the end of a cycle can take one billing cycle longer. [3] If returns and refunds in a cycle exceed purchases, the deduction can leave a negative point balance. [3]

Lyft rides pay 5 points per $1 in total through 30 September 2027 — two extra points on top of the 3 travel points until the combined category limit is reached — and cover rideshare trips, bike and scooter rides, and subscription and membership products, but not gift cards, car rentals, vehicle service centres or miscellaneous fees. New cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, with the bonus usually posting 6 to 8 weeks after qualification as long as the account is open and not in default. [1] The offer may not be available to someone who has held this card before, and Chase says it may also weigh factors about the business when deciding bonus eligibility. [1]

Activating the card's complimentary DashPass by 31 December 2027 gives at least 12 months of membership, requires a United States address and an account that stays open and out of default, and adds up to $10 off one qualifying non-restaurant DoorDash order each calendar month. [1]

How do you redeem and transfer Ultimate Rewards points?

Points can be redeemed for cash, gift cards, travel booked through Chase Travel, pay-with-points purchases, or transferred to participating frequent travel programmes. [3] For cash, gift cards and travel each point is worth one cent, so 100 points equal $1, while other redemption options may be worth more or less and special promotions can carry a higher value. [3]

Points can be combined with other Chase cards that carry Ultimate Rewards if those cards belong to the cardholder, one member of the household, or the owner of the company. [3] Transfers to travel programmes go in 1,000-point increments and only to accounts belonging to the cardholder or to a company owner listed as an authorised user on the card. [3] A transfer fee may apply and is disclosed before the transfer is made; most requests process by the next business day but can take up to 7 business days, and once points leave they cannot be refunded or the transfer cancelled. [3] After the transfer the points follow the receiving programme's own terms, and the list of participating programmes can change without notice. [3]

What business-card terms apply to the Ink Business Preferred?

The account belongs to a business, and the agreement requires points to be used only for the company's business purposes, to benefit the company rather than any individual personally, and in line with applicable laws, ethics standards and company policies. [3] The cardholder remains responsible for how points are used, including when authorised users such as employees can reach them. [3]

Chase may temporarily bar an account from earning or using points if it suspects misuse or fraud, and the account can start again in the next billing cycle after it is brought current or the concern ends. [3] The agreement lists misuse examples including missing the minimum payment when due, buying or selling points, selling goods obtained with points, repeatedly opening cards to generate rewards, and manufacturing spend. [3] Points are not property, have no value until they are redeemed, and cannot be transferred except as the agreement allows — not by inheritance, bankruptcy or divorce. [3] Taking part may also produce miscellaneous income reported on Form 1099-MISC or Form 1042-S, with any tax liability falling on the cardholder. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • What does not earn points. Balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions such as travellers cheques, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers and cryptocurrency, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race-track wagers, person-to-person money transfers, cheques that access the account, interest, unauthorised or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind including the annual fee earn nothing. [3]
  • Merchant coding. Reward categories follow the merchant codes assigned by merchants and their processors, so a merchant that appears to fit a category may still earn only the base rate, and purchases routed through third-party payment accounts or digital wallets may not qualify if the technology is not set up to process them in that category. [3]
  • Losing the balance. Points do not expire while the account is open, but the entire balance is lost immediately if the account status changes or the account is closed for misuse, fraud or the other reasons the agreement lists, and Chase does not reinstate them unless it made an error. [3]
  • Closure for other reasons. If the account is closed for any reason outside that list, the cardholder has at least 30 days to use the points; anything still unused is lost unless the law limits that, in which case the points are automatically redeemed for cash as a statement credit. [3] If the account is closed because of death, the points are automatically redeemed for cash as a statement credit. [3]
  • Bonus eligibility. The 100,000-point new cardmember offer may not be available to someone who has had the card before, and Chase may consider business-specific factors when assessing eligibility. [1]
