Key takeaways

  • The card earns 3 points per $1 on shipping, social media and search engine advertising, travel, and internet, cable and phone services, on the first $150,000 of combined spending in those categories each account anniversary year. [2]
  • After that $150,000 is reached, those purchases earn 1 point per $1, and all other purchases earn 1 point per $1 with no cap. [2]
  • The annual fee is $95, there are no foreign transaction fees, and employee cards are issued at no additional cost with individual spending limits. [2]
  • Points do not expire while the account stays open, but they are lost immediately if the account status changes or the account is closed for programme misuse, fraudulent activity or other reasons set out in the Rewards Program Agreement. [2]

How do you earn points on the Ink Business Preferred?

Earning is organised around one combined annual cap per account anniversary year, not per category. The card pays 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent across the listed categories in each account anniversary year, and 1 point per $1 once that combined figure is passed, with no maximum on the base rate. Not every transaction counts as a purchase. Balance transfers, cash advances and other cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers and similar betting transactions, cheques that access the account, interest, unauthorised or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including the annual fee, earn nothing. [2] The Lyft promotion also excludes gift cards, car rentals, vehicle service centres and miscellaneous Lyft fees, and the extra points appear on the statement as a separate line from base points. [2]

New applicants are advertised a bonus of 100,000 points after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, with six to eight weeks allowed for the bonus to post and the account required to be open and not in default when it is fulfilled. [2] Chase states that the new cardmember bonus may not be available to someone who has ever held this card, and that factors pertinent to the business may be considered when deciding bonus eligibility. [2]

Where can Ultimate Rewards points be transferred?

Transferring to frequent travel programmes is the feature that links this card to airline and hotel schemes. Chase's Ultimate Rewards site describes transfers to airline and hotel partners as something available with select cards, [5] and the Ink Business Preferred page states that cardholders can transfer their Ultimate Rewards points to participating frequent travel programmes, listing the partners below. One rate is published on the card page: from 1 October 2026, Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt at 4:3, so 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points become 750 World of Hyatt points. [2] Chase directs cardholders to the Ultimate Rewards portal to see transfer rates for the other partners and notes that promotional rates change. [2] The receiving programmes' own rules, such as expiry and award pricing, are separate from this card's terms; the frequent flyer glossary covers the general terms used here.

What does the card cost and how are points used?

The annual fee is $95, and purchases made outside the United States incur no foreign transaction fees. [2] Employee cards cost nothing extra and can be given individual spending limits, and the business remains responsible for all balances on the account. [2] Chase Pay Over Time, offered to eligible cardmembers, splits an eligible purchase of $100 or more into equal monthly payments over three to 24 months with no interest but a fixed monthly fee; access is not guaranteed and depends on factors such as creditworthiness and account behaviour. [2]

Points can be taken as cash back by statement credit or direct deposit into most U.S. checking and savings accounts, with no minimum to redeem, or used for gift cards and Apple purchases through Ultimate Rewards. [2] The Ultimate Rewards site adds travel booked through Chase, paying with points at Amazon.com and PayPal, Pay Yourself Back statement credits, and Shop and Earn, which pays 1 to 15 bonus points per $1 at more than 1,000 stores. [5] Redemption values vary by reward option. [2]

The card also bundles insurance-style benefits: trip cancellation and interruption cover of up to $5,000 per covered traveller and $10,000 per trip for pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses; primary collision coverage on business car rentals up to $60,000 for most vehicles with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $125,000 or less; cell phone protection up to $1,000 per claim with a $100 deductible and a maximum of three claims in 12 months; purchase protection for 120 days up to $10,000 per item; and an extra year on U.S. warranties of three years or less, up to four years from purchase. [2] Most of these benefits are administered by unaffiliated companies, restrictions and documentation requirements apply, and the Guide to Benefits issued after account opening holds the full terms. [2]

Exceptions and limits

  • The cap is annual, not permanent. The $150,000 limit applies to combined category spending in each account anniversary year, so the 3-point rate becomes available again in the next year; anything above it earns 1 point per $1. [2]
  • Points can be lost. Points do not expire while the account is open, but all of them are lost immediately if the account status changes, or if the account is closed for programme misuse, fraudulent activity or other reasons described in the Rewards Program Agreement. [2]
  • Offer terms can differ. Chase says offers may vary depending on where the application is made, for example online or in a branch, and can change over time; the $8,000 qualifying spend excludes balance transfers, cash advances, travellers cheques, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, lottery tickets, casino chips, person-to-person money transfers and fees. [2]
  • The Lyft rate is time-limited. The 5 points per $1 applies to qualifying Lyft rides through 30 September 2027 and excludes gift cards, car rentals, vehicle service centres and miscellaneous fees. [2]
  • DashPass has activation conditions. Complimentary DashPass access requires activation with a Chase Ink Business Preferred card by 31 December 2027, membership must be activated with a United States address, and the separate monthly DoorDash discount of up to $10 applies to non-restaurant orders, to the subtotal only, and does not roll over. [2]
  • Instalment plans have a channel limit. While most consumer cards and select small business cards can use Chase Pay Over Time after a purchase, small business credit cards are excluded from using it at checkout on Amazon.com. [2]
